Peter Vaughan (Maestor Aemon's actor) passed away about a year after this episode aired, it was the last time he ever appeared on-screen. He was 93

When Daario referred to zo Loraq as the leader of the Sons of the Harpy I believe he was half joking, half trying to plant the seed to Dany. The great families of Meereen lost the most in her conquest of the city and are the most likely to be behind/backing The Sons of the Harpy. The audience has not been told outright that Hizdahr zo Loraq is the leader- it would be kind of insane for Dany to marry the leader knowingly lol

Remember the look on Jaime's face when Myrcella tells him "You don't know me." It probably hit 10x harder because she is his daughter, and he was never able to really be a father to her lest people discover the truth. I think Jaime is a fascinating character because for his entire life he has been unable to be seen for who he really is, or to act upon it. He's one of the greatest swordsmen in Westeros but was made to serve as a "glorified bodyguard" for two unworthy Kings, one who he was forced to kill after being ordered by him to kill his own father, and another who openly took pleasure in disrespecting Cersei. Then he was immediately dubbed "Kingslayer" by everyone including Ned Stark. He's had to deal with his father's disappointment in his station and choosing between pleasing him or fulfilling his Kingsguard vows. Then he lost his right hand, his entire identity, while literally protecting his captor (Brienne). He's had to wrestle with his love for his brother and his loyalty to his father and sister, he chooses his brother just for his dad to be murdered. And now he's dealing with the fact that he has never and could never be a father to his children. His development is honestly one of the sharpest and most human of the entire series.

There's one of those high highs when Cersei gets her comeuppance :) Also a low low with that silly Dorne prison scene lol. Hope you lads enjoy episode 8 it's one of my favorites!

the faith were not "in control before the targaryens", they just were an armed force before king maegor disarmed them (in response to an uprising from them). no one was "in control (of westeros) before the targaryens", the 7 kingdoms were separate

it is true that this season finishes up with their use of book material (with the exception of like 1 or 2 scenes/minor arcs next season being based on book scenes) and actually gets further ahead than the books on some storylines, but this isnt just because the book series is unfinished but also because the showrunners chose to cut out a *lot* more book material at this point than they did in earlier seasons. they also created some storylines/had some major deviations.

Maestor Aemon's death scene always breaks my heart. Not that there aren't other sad tragic deaths all over this show. But he was just so kind and will to share his wisdom with Jon and Sam and so fucking sweet to Gilly and Little Sam. It's hard to not see him as a 'grandfather' here in these last moments. And it feels so real. Sigh. A truly good man. ... Then Alistair goes and opens his damn mouth and ruins the moment 😒.

"A handsome young man..." Ollivar is a handsome young man and he was the KEY witness against Loras and Margaery, and he works for Littlefinger... Lancel is a handsome young man and he is the KEY witness against Cersei, and of course Littlefinger knew his story... Littlefinger is ALWAYS playing ALL sides. "Chaos is a laddah...", remember? Also, just one more thing, Winterfell IS a one of the most imposing castles/fortresses in Westeros. It has been the site of many battles before - including the one were "winter fell", when the First Men finally defeated the White Walkers during the Long Night thousands of years ago - I think it was Theon quoting Ned Stark a few seasons back: "Ned Stark always said a hundred men can defend this castle from ten thousand"...

What a ride! Truly wish I could jump into the deep dive discussions with you both at the end of these incredible episodes. There is nothing like this show. Try not to get hung up on accuracies to the books. The tv show is it's own brilliant representation and it's glorious. Enjoy and savor the journey!

Tyrion was "The Gift". :-) Btw, finally caught up with the episodes so i can now comment. Problem is, everything i want to say can't be said...Hahaha... Great Episode though. And lastly, The man who walked away from being the King, Aemon Targaryen. And now his watch has ended. *tears*.

I seem to recall Tywin telling Cersei that she is not as smart as she thinks she is. Imagine thinking that arming an army of religious fanatics was a good idea. It was very short-sighted of her.
