The first episode of this thrilling series about possibly the greatest NBA team of all time; the 90s Bulls!

Damo, maybe you recognize Dennis Rodman as the former NBA star who had a weird buddy-buddy relationship with North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong Un. Kim’s father Kim Jong Il was famously a huge fan of these 90’s Bulls. The General Manager is usually tasked with building the roster. The GM leads drafting, trading, signing free agents, and re-signing players under contract. The head coach is more like the manager on a soccer team. The coach is the person on the sideline making on-court decisions. Many head coaches will also be involved in roster construction however. I don’t think anyone blames Houston for going with Olajuwon #1 overall. He’s one of the greatest players of all-time and the NBA especially valued centers in that era. Portland taking Bowie at #2 is the bigger issue. They explained that the Blazers already had Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler at Jordan’s position but I’m pretty sure they could have figured out how to play alongside one another. If Jordan got his “Pippen” that early in his career there’s no telling what kind of success he would have had. No spoilers but you’re right in that Jordan’s “hiatus” came after they won three consecutive titles. It’s an endlessly fascinating part of his career and I’m excited for you guys to get to it.

Thanks for the info, it’s really helpful! Definitely can’t blame them for taking Olajuwon, but Portland missed out big time! Looking forward to seeing what’s to come!

That’s a big statement, is that the general thought from most Chicagoan sports fans?

Nice one guys, love this series. FYI there's actually an unofficial 11th episode about Luc Longley, the center that helped them with their second 3-peat, definitely worth a watch, it's on YouTube. Search for "Luc Longley and the missing chapter of The Last Dance"

Regarding the greatest player to ever play in all major sports and not get drafted 1st, I think it's gotta be Tom Brady. I'm not a fan as he torched my Steelers my whole life, but he was drafted Round 6, Pick 199 and went on to win 7 superbowls. More than any team has in their history, even more than the Patriots, where he won 6 of them.

A GM or general manager in American sports is basically the head scout and in charge of trades. The GM will decide who to draft and who to trade and negotiate contracts. They have to get approval from ownership sometimes or will talk to the coach. Some teams give their gm more or less power when making decisions.

The Patreon exclusives are great guys. I thoroughly enjoyed this watch. I hadn't watch any of this documantary.

Yep, that's the one. Slow, chunky Tom Brady (whose 40-yard dash still makes me laugh out loud) drafted near the bottom of his class and never expected even to make it on the field, only to go on to become easily the best player of all time in the NFL

Just regarding the North Carolina (Chapel Hill) to Chicago question, what I said in my head was "far as hell" hahah...probably about a 13-14 hour drive with traffic. 800 miles or so. I'd guess similar to driving from the tip of Scotland to the cliffs of Dover?

You guys have probably been filled in by now, but MJ retired to play baseball shortly after his father was killed after the first 3 peet...that's where hakeem olajawon won 2 titles for the rockets, however it is not out of the realm of possibility that the Bulls win 8 in a row had MJ played in 94' and all of 95’

34:50 I don't know if someone else has mentioned this, but Houston taking Hakeem isn't usually seen as a bad move because Hakeem ended up an all-time great anyways. If you notice, much more emphasis was on the Blazers not picking Jordan. Hakeem is one of the greatest players ever; He's up there as one of the greatest defenders/two-way players of all time, while arguably having the greatest footwork ever in the NBA. He's one of the few players to ever win Defensive Player of the Year, MVP, and Finals MVP over their careers. The other two players who have achieved this feat are Giannis and Jordan, except Hakeem accomplished it all in the same season. He's right outside of most people's top 10 lists.
