We escaped which brought us to our next problem. As we made it onto the boat and started to make our escape, both Mikita and Gem pointed their guns at us. It was hard to understand their thought process. Alvida could take both of them down by herself, even with the few spit vials I know he kept in case this happened. I asked. “Did you think this through?”
Both looked at me confused as I continued. “The Marines just saw you helping us rob them. Do you not think you’ll be tied to our pirate group? I’m sure that Crocodile will give you the benefit of the doubt. You’re as much a part of it as Alvida is now.” Both put their guns down as they really thought about it before Gem looked scared. “Damn it! Why didn’t you mention this sooner? If I’d have known what you were doing I wouldn’t have taken part!”
He rubbed his head with the gun while looking down and I told him. “If you didn’t join the crew you’d have really been turned in for the bounty. Think about it this way.” I tossed over the bags of gold and berries before I continued speaking. “You were bounty hunters correct? Well, how much have you made? How much of a cut did Crocodile take from every bounty you collected? How much money did you make the same day you joined this crew?”
I didn’t want to give them time to really think about what just happened. In one smooth move, I turned enemies into allies. If they realized I planned this all since Alvida joined they’d probably be mad at me.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
I plate up another plate of fish for Luffy. It had become a game between us two. I’d try to catch and cook fish faster than he could eat them. I was trying to keep tabs on how many he had eaten but realized it was endless. He could eat any food placed in front of him indefinitely. Only really stopping because we were getting close to the island. Gigantic trees and animals roamed my visible eyeline. The scout clone up top yelled down.
“Looks like a prehistoric island full of giant beasts. Make sure you stick together, don’t go wandering off by yourself unless you can handle the consequences.” Luffy shouted “Cool!” as he jumped off the ship, running into the forest by himself. He only left with the two clones I put on his shoulders as Usopp ran after him. “Luffy! Wait for me!”
I noticed something else as one of my clones reached the peak of a tree and looked towards the south part of the island. “There’s another boat over in that direction… I can’t really make out who they are from here if anyone wants to go check it out. We also need to restock our food supplies if one of you wants to kill a dinosaur.”
They fought about who was going to kill the dinosaur before I mentioned. “The dinosaurs are just big dumb animals, the harder mission would be dealing with the unknown threat.” Both yelled. “I’ll do that!” Sanji and Nami headed south and Zoro and Vivi ran north. Vivi questioning. “Why are we going away from the ship if you want to scout it?”
All three groups had mini clones with them while the main bunch on the island was gathering fruits and other food sources besides the meat. I could hunt one but it would cost me more than it was worth, especially when Sanji or Zoro could take one down so much easier than me. My fruit wasn’t designed for fighting, that’s why everyone hated it.
It was good for just about everything else but fighting, I had only made it useful by sussing out the intricate details of my clones working together. Most people with this fruit might sabotage themselves, their clones accidentally hurting one another by attacking the same target. I was strong against single opponents or fodder. The stronger the opponent the easier they can wipe out all my clones at once and I dinosaur would break multiple clones with every successful attack it made.
Jumping from tree to tree, I take a deep breath as I can’t believe my luck. I just found a devil fruit randomly in one of the banana bunches at the top of this tree… I mean, it kind of made sense. At least a little bit. This was a pretty secluded island, and most people refused to head this way if they’d heard about it beforehand. Everyone was likely more focused on surviving the year it would take for the log pose to adjust.
Speaking of which, there were plenty of bodies and campsites to check for other valuables. Gathering intel and items was what my devil fruit shined in. I thought I knew which fruit it was but I had another clone looking through the devil fruit encyclopedia to confirm. It was the scan scan fruit.
Most devil fruits had different categories. There were three different types. Paramecia(the most common and varied) logia, and zoan. Then beyond that, each had different variations inside with special paramecia, ancient or mythical zoan. There were also inferior and superior fruits. The kilo-kilo fruit was an inferior version of the ton-ton fruit.
Many devil fruits could do the same thing like give the person an extra dimension or more easily movable storage space. The pocket-pocket, storage-storage, or swamp-swamp fruits all do the same thing except in a slightly different way. That wasn’t even going into pseudo storage spaces like the munch-munch, castle-castle, or even my own fruit.
I think all this because the scan-scan fruit was the inferior version of the radar-radar fruit which you could argue was the inferior version of the glare-glare fruit. The big difference is, although it was inferior in most ways, like the distance a person could look it was better in some. The flare-flare fruit gave more mobility than the magma-magma fruit even though it was the inferior fruit. The scan-scan fruit did one thing better than any other devil fruit. That was locating other devil fruits on a particular island.
Now, the main question was… Who to give this to? The scan-scan fruit was almost completely useless for a fighter but it was amazing for support. If you scanned for enemies, the moment someone with malicious intentions entered your range, you’d know even if you were sleeping. To be a thousand percent honest, it would be best on a guard dog or another animal. Something that would be constantly watching over the ships or a base when we developed one.
I happen to have two animals here right now. The vulture and otter. They were still loyal but this devil fruit would be perfect for one of them. Vultures were known as scavenger animals after all and they functioned at about the same level mentally as a human. She could keep the base safe and search for food and valuables when we arrived on new islands before doing a quick pass above to check for any devil fruits as well.
Now… The new plan was to get their trust and loyalty and that involved the same way you tamed any animal. With delicious food.
