R-S Chapter 19 (Patreon)

The smile instantly dropped off my face as I started to think of what that implied, she didn’t let me sit in my own thoughts before she continued. “She… Would often get bored if the person couldn’t satisfy her. One such person was a high-ranking noble who didn’t take kindly to her lack of enthusiasm and strangled her to death.”
We sat in silence for a minute before I asked. “Which family did it?” She pulled out a long cigarette holder as she began to smoke. The large puff of smoke hit me in the face and made me want to flinch but I didn’t. I was far too angry at the situation to care about little things like the Madame testing me. “You know what you’re getting into? We’ve already punished him. He was blacklisted from any brothel or bar we have a partnership with. He’s already been punished.”
I scoff at the idea that a noble would be punished at all for killing a prostitute. No, he might have gotten roughed up by the bouncers, but I even doubted that. He wouldn’t even get a slap on the wrist and the paltry payment he’d make to keep everything quiet would only be a drop in the funds he possessed. “Please, I can’t do anything now… But in ten years… Maybe twenty… Even if nothing comes from this, I’d just like to know the name of the person who did this.”
She kept inspecting me, seeing if I would flinch as I kept eye contact with her. I guess she liked what she saw in my eyes as she puffed out again and told me. “William Calogress.” She said the name like I’d know it and that was only partly true. I knew the noble family name, I didn’t know anyone named William from that family though. The Calogress was known for being one of the richest families in the country, but it was all because of their leader. It was a larger family but their leader was the only one memorable, I guess I knew one of his sons now as well as I inscribed the name William Calogress into my brain.
I wasn’t in the mood to have sex after that so left. The day after I convinced Brutus to lend me the points to get another bottle of ambrosia wine. I spent the rest of my money on food items as I waited for the time loop to reset. This time I looked at the situation from an outside perspective. I was close enough to the academy to see what would happen but not risk being wrapped up in the collateral. I looked at the academy expecting to see some sign that right now it was under attack but there was nothing.
That was until I felt it. The shattering of whatever sealed the demon king broke and I could feel the shifting of mana as it was pulled towards the academy. It was the sign of a large-scale attack, I had heard about the effect but most mages couldn’t make people feel the mana shift around them. Only the truly strong mages like the King, his right and left hand, and the leaders of the noble faction could make people feel this… From the same room.
I could feel mana being pulled away not only from a different building but over two blocks away from the school. Even if he didn’t form a spell, the sheer raw magical power he was pulling towards himself was enough to destroy half the city. I had misjudged the situation, no one alive could defeat the demon king. If he wished, he could burn the world to the ground and no one would be able to stop him.
Before I saw the repercussions of that attack I was ripped from my body. One moment I’m in a nearby diner, the next I’m a few steps from my home and toward the city to get my mana tested. The sudden shifting of my body had me almost falling from the vertigo. Making my way toward the city I felt I was missing something. Right until I felt someone running toward me from behind and jump just before he tackled me.
My newly formed tremor sense was the only reason I wasn’t tackled again. Brutus sprawled on the ground, not expecting his target to avoid the tackle by clearing him in one go. “What the hells Ovar, since when could you jump that high?” I hadn’t even noticed I was already cycling again. It just came instinctively to you after you’ve done it for long enough.
“Knowing you’re about to be tackled helps you dodge the tackle.” He offered his hand for me to help him up and tried to pull me to the ground. I grab him with both my hands lifting him to his feet instead. “There we go, no need for both of us to get dirty.” He looked even more disgruntled now. “How did you know I was coming?” I didn’t tell him, just smirking in a way that I knew would piss him off more. He looked at me even more questioningly. “Did you get taller?”
The time loop rewound my body but it appeared it didn’t completely. My body was slowly strengthening enough for Brutus to notice at the very least. We talked about some similar topics again, but also some things that never came up in either time loop so far. It was odd, even the hour I was brought back to had shifted, even as small a change as what we talked about. Some things never change though.
“You see that new orc bartender at the adventurer’s guild? She has some of the biggest breasts I’ve ever seen. Kind of makes me want to get into adventuring if I can stare at those things all day.” “I like Rasker.” Rasker was one of the highest-ranked adventurers of the guild but even still she had a cutesy appearance and softer curves compared to most of the other female adventurers.
“Ehh, she’s barely got any boobage to talk about though… Hey… You think we can… N-never mind.” I tried to follow his train of thought until I smiled. “How about after we get tested we celebrate by visiting a brothel.” He feigned surprise as he yelled. “Who are you and what the hells have you done with Ovar?” I smirk at him as we make our way to get tested first.
Mana Capacity- 77
Magic Fluctuations- Moderate
Mental Control- Minimal
Mana veins- Small, thin, 30.80% effective
Magical affinities- Fire 15.03%, Water 03.04%, Air 30.05%, Lightning -14.15%, Earth 45.06% @#^*(!) 98%
Everything seemed to be in order until I got to my lightning affinity. I had been eating the disgusting eels but it improved almost an entire percent compared to the small gains for other affinities. I heard that it rounded to the nearest percentage the first time you’re checked then it averages out the real amount over the next year. So the small rapid changes were my affinities showing where they actually were. I didn’t think that was the case with my lightning affinity though.
The red-skinned receptionist asked. “What’s that bit on the end?” I lied about what I thought it was. “Probably an affinity the machine couldn’t scan.” As I make my way outside to join the support magic class I’m stopped by the tiefling. “W-wait.” She walked up and wrote on a piece of paper before handing it to me. “This is my name and when I get off work if you want to talk after…”
Even though her skin was red I thought I saw a blush coming from her. “Well, I’m going to be busy getting everything ready for school but if you don’t mind waiting until tomorrow.” She shook her head with more excitement then I had seen a girl do before as I tried to look cool instead of flustered as I walked out.
