I blinked at the wave of quest completions that began to ring out after we docked at Lis. It must have waited until we had arrived safely to give the rewards. My eyebrows rose in shock at how much I just earned, but after thinking about it, it wasn’t surprising that I just finished the gold quest chain immediately. I was fairly close to unlocking ten thousand gold before we went there, and Valyrian steel was priceless.
I found a dozen sets of armor, that’s full armor, plus weapons and shields for a dozen men, and add the fact that all valyrian steel was doubled from the old valyria quest, that was why I just earned more money than most kingdoms had. I felt the boxes and random mutation and was curious, trying the random box first, which was the least valuable.
Mentally, a wheel began to spin. The wheel contained many colors, but the majority were grey, white, green, and blue, with only a small amount of purple, and an even smaller amount of orange, with only a singular red visible before it quickly disappeared from the list. My eyebrows rose in shock as I only caught a glimpse of what was offered.
The grey was normal daily living items, anywhere from one to ten loaves of bread, one to ten gallons of water, a hand and a half sword, and so on. Grey was nothing special and would only help slightly supply my growing army. White was just about ten times the reward that gray gave. Better, but nothing special either.
Green was where I actually saw valuable items. A horse, a thousand pounds of flour, ten sets of armor, and a set of full plate armor. This was stuff actually valuable to a growing army; it wasn’t worth the ten thousand gold required to purchase the random loot box, but it was about ten times more valuable than the lower-tier items.
Blue rarity was troops. Summon twenty men to fight for you for a single battle, a warhorse, ten horses, a ship, and an encampment for one hundred people. More focused on warfare than the other tiers, it was also the first sign of unearned power I could use to turn the tide in a fight. Still, far below what I would spend purchasing the items instead of rolling on the random loot boxes.
Epic was where I was finally getting my money's worth. Summon 1000 men to fight for you for a single battle, twenty warhorses, ten ships, a warship, a temporary outpost able to house 1000 men, 5 ballista, 10 catapults, and a positive mutation injection. The thing that drew my attention was the positive mutation injection. Right now, I was the only one with the system, but by having an item that would allow me to strengthen those around me, I could make my truly loyal men more capable than anyone else.
I gulped as I thought of the orange items; the few that passed by were why you would want to try a random loot box over purchasing the items outright. Gain 100 men permanently loyal to you, 15 warships, a permanent castle able to comfortably house 500 men, and a Valyrian steel sword. Most of the epic items were worth the 10,000 gold, except the Valyrian sword. It was worth dramatically more. You could set your own price, possibly even more than a million coins, to someone desperate for the recognition the sword would bring, like the Lannisters.
The singular red box I saw was what drew my attention. If everything were as valuable as it is, then rolling for them would be worth the risk of losing my money. Gain one grenade per day. That might not seem like much, but grenades didn’t exist in this world, at least, they weren’t created. Red most likely gave rewards that could exist in the world eventually, but currently don’t. Could I get a car, or perhaps even a plane? I wasn’t sure, but it was also a replenishing item.
The wheel quickly stopped on a white reward, which was sixty-three loaves of bread. The reward sat in my valuables storage, and I could summon it whenever I wished, but I wasn’t sure I could re-store it after I did. I felt like, if I rolled ten loot boxes at once, I would be guaranteed at least one legendary. I rolled the regenerating resource next; it had a similar wheel, but every single option was for a single item.
I saw a horse go by and wondered how that would work. Could I just stockpile horses in my storage and summon them all at once to confuse everyone on the battlefield? I wasn’t sure, but the wheel quickly spun before slowing down and stopping on ten pounds of meat. So every single day, I would build up a stockpile of meat for when I actually needed it.
I bought another random chest and rolled all ten at once. Nothing special except the one legendary, which was a fleet of a flagship galleon and ten warships. I had enough time to see plenty of the red rarity options, and I was right, every one of them was futuristic, something that could exist in this world but didn’t yet.
Rolling the otherworldly loot chests, I don’t bother opening one, but do all ten at once just for the bonus. As the wheel rolls for each one, my eyebrows go wide at the items as they go by. I was excited to see what I would get, and after that, I still had the otherworldly mutation to roll for.
