FINALLY some nicer weather, so got some clearing of the beds done - it's lovely to do this sort of thing... at least the first few times.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't musing ways to automate some of the more boring elements.

I've had half and eye on building an open source gardening robot for the garden (eg I like these designs: https://farm.bot/)

That'd tackle weeding, watering and planting pretty neatly I suspect.... mmmmmm

What do you all think??

Koshed

That is one serious looking Farm-Bot, with a very serious price tag as well. The ingenuity of it all is pretty cool, it's like a giant 3D printer for the garden. 👍😊

Exactly right Koshed! This is something I'm going to touch on in a video, it's really interesting to me the way so many crafts are being turned into GCODE - ie x, y and z coordinates to control movement and making - eg vacuums, CNCs, 3d printers, laser cutters l, my sewing machine and loads more .... like this gardening bot!!

What are your tips to control insects from destroying your plants?

Hmm, I'm no plant expert at all, so I'd take any advice with a pinch of salt...! Any insects in particular? These beds I've got a mesh cover that I drop on to stop butterflies and the like being able to lay eggs. By being raised off the ground greatly reduces slugs and snails (a 3d printed beer trap is amazing for them too) and then picking companion plants to deter other pests works well (herbs are great for this!)

I'm a firm believer that touching dirt is healthy! Sorry Farm-Bot

Oh it's no 'belief', it's abundantly proven in countless pieces of research - totally agree, this would be something that I'd see as letting me do more in the garden rather than less! I might touch on this in a video, but I like these technologies that 'work alongside you'. For example I was just strimming the grass whilst the robot lawnmower was cutting away beside me - get more done and take away the monotonous tasks, which makes the garden more pleasurable!

Those Welsh hills are so gorgeous too. 😍

Both kinds are lovely. Spent a lot of time round Scottish hills in my youth. ❤️
