In this test Ayanakoji didn't exactly plan for a class wide wins. He kinda let Horikita do her thing which she failed in. He mostly worked on winning his group and acquiring Kei.

To be clear, Ayanokoji's plan did work. The Mar's Groups "traitor" was mistaken and Class D (our class) got +50 points. In other words, the only thing that went in our favor is Ayanokoji's plan. (Considering Class A has a giant point deficient, Class A's student's behaviour in Mars Group, and Class C's leader made clear he knew all of the VIPs, we can assume Class A was the traitors of Mars Group, thus -50 of their points are from Mars Group.) The reason for the characters being surprised is because the TOTAL RESULTS of the test were wildly in Class C's favor and Class A was severely punished. In other words, whatever it is that Ryuen did caught everyone off guard. Implying that he was serious when he said he knew how to win this test. Furthermore when he shows that he already knew who his own groups VIP was even though he didn't use the information. The facts aside, my personal take on why Ryuen DIDN'T use the Kushida VIP info is two-fold. 1) He isn't scared of Class D, so he has no reason to call out their VIP because that doesn't alter the higher classes standings. He would rather let Class A or Class B get it wrong so they LOSE points. (though in the end, Earth Group did not have a traitor to guess, so net 0) 2) They established in one of the previous episodes that usually the "Earth Group" is ALWAYS the "Class Leaders" (as perceived by the classes). We find this out because we see the teachers discussing the "unusual" fact that Ichinose (Class B's obvious leader) wasn't in the Earth group (For reasons that aren't made clear except that it's an experiment by Class B's teacher). We know for a fact Ryuen and Horikita are in the same group... and Ryuen is clearly Class C's leader. We know Ayanokoji wasn't put in Earth group which leaves the only feasible options for our classes teacher to pick as the "leader" as Horikita or Hirata (Displayed open unity early on in class, Is the most popular boy in the class, and was the obvious leader during the island test which just ended). Horikita was selected as the "leader" during the island test though and was credited publicly as the "Reason" for Class D's sweeping victory during the island test. Logic then indicates that our teacher selected Horikita for that group... proven by her and Ryuen obviously sharing the same group from their interactions. All of that is to say, tdlr 2) Ryuen likely didn't want to "anger" all of the class leaders who are obviously all in that same group and analyzing each other. We know from the results of the Earth group on Kei's phone that they are the only group that got result 1, aka "We all didn't betray each other and knew who the VIP was". It's never spoken aloud but I suspect the class leaders all agreed to "play fair" for Earth Group specifically since they are all of the "smartest" people and Ryuen just played along with that (also extra points, lets him flex on Horikita in the aftermath)

this episode clearly showed why the other leaders of the classes are where they are(A,B,C), Ayanakoji is not the only smart one and his plans will not always work, he might be two steps ahead but someone else may be three steps ahead, even Ichinose caught him twice, first with the phone call then secondly when he was outside talking to Kei Karuizawa, Ichinose was listening to them talk about how their plan worked as expected🤣she came out like "I knew it, After a lie is exposed, people will perceive any subsequent answer as the truth" meaning she knew the first and second VIP exposure was a lie in that meeting...Ichinose is my favorite, all smiles and nice but boy is she smart!!
