Ciego

15.20 Cara with the grade school level mind haha I know its oversaid but Kiku really has AURA so much so she turned this series into a Horror for a brief moment haha

Undeath Ghost

She's the first vampire that I actually think is kind of scary. Even the "Vampire Coven" group, while initially displayed as very threatening, is actually quite reasonable and kind. The "offspring who didn't feed", while he as obviously the most directly threatening instances we've seen so far, didn't actually come across as intimdating. He was just a broken, semi-mindless monster. He was "Scary" in the way an animal can be. But not in the way a sentient, thinking creature can be. Kiku, on the other hand, they did a really good job of making her feel extremely intimidating. She feels like exactly what the myths behind vampires are sold to be: Malicious, manipulative monsters that feed on humans. That said I actually have a personal theory about her (anime-only viewer) see my own comment for that if your curious!

Undeath Ghost

I would like to preface that I am an anime-only viewer and thus is just my personal speculation. However... I have a theory about Kiku and feeding in general. So the "facts" we know of her so far are as follows: - The vampires (Nazuna and Hatsuka on screen. Though likely Hatsuka's words are the gathered info of the "Coven") know that she is "unusual" and that "nobody knows what she's thinking" - She has had "at least" ~50ish offspring. This is extremely high for a typical vampire - according to vampires. - She has confided in Nazuna before that "I went and turned another one... I didn't mean for this to happen." The facts we know about "feeding" and/or turning humans to vampire are as follows: - The human must "fall in love" with the vampire (the line for what that means is a bit ambigious, though) - Blood seems to have different flavors/qualities and even vampires don't really know what determines that flavor/quality. - When a vampire feeds they get a deep understanding of the humans emotional state. - Ko's blood tastes specifically really good (Nazuna's testimony) - Anko's (vampire hunter) blood tastes specifically really bad (starving offspring's testimony). Anko seemed surprised to hear her blood tasted badly - and also seemed like she'd offered her blood before. The Theory: Based on her "displayed" behavior, Kiku portrays the idea that she doesn't specifically want to turn people and yet she inadvertently has converted the most. She claims to not want to turn Mahiru front-facing and yet she is ecstatic when he confesses that he loves her. Now, the "obvious" answer is of course... she's malicious and manipulating him. She's the kind of vampire that Anko has been warning the kids about. This is very much possible. I think however, it's a bit more complicated then that. Based on what we hear from the other vampires... while she could again still just be lying to them... she seems to be genuine to some extent. I mean, even I was believing in Ko's thoughts that she seemed not so bad until they intentionally showed her "scheming" when she was turned away and hiding her face. These conjectures established... I think that Blood's taste and quality is based on one's compatibility to be turned by the feeding vampire. In that regard, much like favorite meal/drink, the better the flavor the more "addicting" it is to taste it again. If that was true, the "best flavor" would then have to be the bite that turns the human into a vampire. When they're love is fullest and they are "perfect for each other". Supporting evidence: - Every, every single time that Nazuna feeds on Ko she has expressed how unbelievably tasty he is. If you go back and you re-watch S1 it also kind of seems like he gets increasingly more tasty for her... like it is getting harder and harder for her to stop feeding. - Towards the end of S1, shortly after the showdown with Anko vs Starving Offspring, when Ko returns to Nazuna she expresses how she "really thought she was going to die" when she's talking about how she really, really wants to feed off of him - like immediately. While in the moment it's supposed to be playing on the newly-showcased concept of what a vampire that doesn't feed looks like... in reality I think it was actually foreshadowing the addicting quality of feeding. That Nazuna, while certainly well meaning, seems to be becoming more reliant on Ko for feeding. - Anko tasted "awful" according to the offspring who obviously had no inkling of who she was. But we do know that she had it out to kill him in the end for being a vampire. So she certainly wasn't very "compatible" for turning. (Conjecture additional note: I think she was surprised to hear this because she likely had "good" tasting blood for the previous vampire that bit her. I suspect it was likely a lover that - when she discovered was a vampire - she grew to hate for lying/manipulating her like a "monster") - Kiku, despite not wanting to make offspring, keeps making lots of them. I suspect she is our introduction to a fully addicted vampire. One that has grown dependent on the "perfect flavor" that comes with turning a human into a vampire. - Unfortunately, once you turn them... you can't feed on them again. That "fine dining" experience only gets to happen once per person. Which means the only way to get it again is to find another person and make them fall in love you. She inevitably wants that taste again... Rinse, repeat, eat, withdrawl. This is why she expressed frustration to Nazuna. - This would explain why Kiku would come across so genuinely when she tells Ko she doesn't want to turn Mahiru. It would also explain why, when she's turned away and thinking to herself, that she is so ecstatic to hear he is in love. She just got verbal confirmation that when she does, inevitably, bite him he will taste incredible. That's my case! If your a Manga reader please do not confirm or deny but I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts or if the has more evidence for and/or against that I didn't think of! Related side tangents: I think this theory makes Hatsuka's case very interesting. She expressed an interest in Ko with Nazuna's claim he tastes very good. She's also gone on record that the people she has turned to offspring have been "tricked" into thinking they love her to be turned. While I'm not sure how that works fully... It would go without saying that if the love was "faked" that she would not have experienced the satisfaction associated with the "perfect" compatibility typically associated with turning. Makes me very curious. I think our next best source of intel in this regard is Seri. She turned Akkun... but they intentionally kind of "off-screened" it (made it clear it was happening but focused on Ko's bitter jealousy of wanting that for himself) and Seri has never expressed his "taste". Though it is worth noting that she was the only one in the Coven who didn't seem intrigued by the mention of Ko's "exquisite taste". Wow sorry for the giant shit-post. If you got this far. Glad someone else is as into this show as I am!
