I wonder if he will be carving the rune on his skin or in his inner world. Both? If he carves it on his skin would it interfere with his soul?

Rank 1 Skybound only inscribe on their skin, runes can be temporary or permenant. The Foundational Run, despite being inscribed on the skin, is a permanent rune. It does not affect the soul, this is something that only occurs in the later ranks of the Skybound system. In a previous chapter, Ke Yin was worried about this as runes inscribed on Tomas' body are useless (for now) as it won't return with him to the cultivation world. Azure told him to look inside his inner world where he saw the pure red sun energy attempt to create its own runes naturally. From this they realised that they can create a Foundational Rune on Tomas' body and then use that experience to create one inside the Inner World. Since the body and the inner world is separate, they won't have the issue of multiple Foundational Runes (as you can only have one). I hope that answers your question:)

Inner world is in Ke Yin's soul which is why it travels with him when he world walks. It's not something Skybound have and their resonance system doesn't affect the soul (at the lower ranks) so even though Ke Yin will have 2 technically, they're completely separate and won't interact (unless he figures out a way to combine them for a x2 effect)

"I wasn't here for raw strength - I needed to learn how to manipulate plants for combat." - This is the kind of thinking needed for selecting a tech school, not a general purpose school. Nothing wrong with a tech school, it's efficient. I just didn't know he knew what kind of school to expect. It seems too much to hope for and he was already miraculously lucky in getting this particular master.

Ah, feels like he should have said "Yeah, probably because the red sun is driving them all insane." I thought but kept the comment to myself. I realize now it was the repetitiveness of it that threw me off.
