Really not a fan of ‘protagonist’ energy in a story that didn’t start out as satire or with a narrator perspective. Takes me out of the story. Maybe you could use some other term like Change Agent or Lynchpin or something? Unless you’ve decided to break the 4th wall intentionally

The Masked One is a fellow reincarnator from earth, using terms like "protagonist energy" and "NPCs" shows that he is genre savvy and doesn't view anyone here as real. Using a more "in-world" term would go against his character entirely
