I don't see how X knowing that they were actually Y all along, but then having the revelation you were Z would be so devastating. They already knew they were actually someone else, and then was provided the right answer, I feel they should be happier about that. Especially when knowing yourself should be a big thing you need to know to advance cultivation.

Imagine a situation where you are, but it seems to you that you are not who you are, suddenly you find out that you are who you thought you were, a lot of memories come back to you, you experience shock from the sheer excess of emotions and memories, and then everything turns around again and instead of A becoming B, you find out that you were A becoming C and again emotions, memories and existential problems caused by so many people who fit into your ego

I don't really get why he is so upset. I believe a person changes with time and every new thing you learn. You can change your moral compass, personality or what ever as much as you want. When you think the way you act is wrong, just change it. You are who you are, no past and future self should define the you in the present.
