Entirely curiosity, feel free to not answer - Where are you from? It's the sentence "I heard his knuckles crack from twenty meters away." that made me ask. The seemingly instinctual use of metric measurements paired with consistent use of American English spelling is not particularly common in fiction in my experience. Just stood out a little is all. You've used words like "realize" and "materialize" in the past but now I could see you being a UK person just writing in American English for some reason lol. Maybe it's just a conscious choice you made to make the writing more accessible and I'm overthinking?

Kynan

You're right, I'm from the UK, I try to write in American English to make the story more accessible. Usually, when publishing, the publisher has editors change British English to American English to get that wider audience. But every now and then, some British English slips out lol

What are everyone's theories about Song Wei and Shen Bolin? Former students, special fragments, or some other connection to the one who created the dream palace?

Joyeus

If their sacrificing people to the palace it has to be to weaken the steps final challenge. They’ve always been stopped at the 99th step were they face the manifestation so I bet every person absorbed acts as a weight and the various personalities are fighting for control. That’s why the teacher guy was lecturing them about not understanding their own laws, they haven’t been pushing there own abilities and growing stronger, they’ve just been piling body into a mountain in hopes their enemy will be crushed eventually.

Honestly? I think the hint is that THEY are fragments themselves. The reason they have been in the palace so much is because they are simply one of the fragments...and one of the trials.
