His crush on her would be significantly less annoying if he stopped pretending it didn't exist. His attempts to be mature about the whole thing rings hollow when he constantly denies everything. The fact that Kal is going to attempt to save Tomas means that the "relationship" is even more doomed than it already was. I genuinely have no idea where this plot point is going but it's caused me to stop reading before. Hopefully she sacrifices herself heroically so we can move past whatever this nonsense is.
