Ashton Irwin - Superbloom UNCUT REACTION

So, I was at first really turned of by this album because it was so strange (I also did listen to Skinny Skinny first because it was the most streamed song and I still respect that song but don't like it as much as the others). But with a few more listens I have come to love this album so much. It is definitely up there in Albums I have listened to entirely for me. There are "no" Live-Performances with a Crowd for this album because for one Ashton has never done a tour until now (the only 5SOS Member who has done a solo-tour is Luke). The main reason however was probably because this was released right at the beginning of Covid. THERE IS a live-stream (or maybe it was a video) where Ashton played the entire album live in a studio with a band. It is quite interesting but I personally think you can also see that Ashton is still new to being a frontman with just vocals. He for sure experiments a lot with the songs, mixing things up and it does work sometimes but I think also not as much some other times. Then, with the second album, he also did a single Concert where he played songs from both Superbloom and "Blood on the Drums". As far as I can tell, there is unfortunately no professional recording from that concert but only fan-recordings with Smartphones. Now to his second album. It is definitely a different style which you have to adapt to. I had heard Superbloom so many times when that album came out that I had to adjust for sure. I did instantly love a few songs from that album but over time I have also come to really like many of the others (I am often someone who needs to listen to an album several times before I can form an opinion). It is a longer album which was released on two parts with 16 songs in total BUT those songs are more traditional and there are therefore no massive songs (except maybe "Canyon" and "Endless Wave"). I really hope you will react to it was well because it is different which however also means that some parts are even better on this second album. As for: Ashton can sing! I didn't really know as much about his singing before I heard this album. It was only afterwards that I found out he is basically the "high voice" in their first two albums. And if you want to know what that means you need to go back to "Outer Space" and look for the high harmony when "The darkest Nights" comes in with all the instruments. I think I might have mistaken that harmony for a Guitar Scream before knowing it was Ashton. He didn't sing much in Youngblood and CALM unfortunately BUT with 5SOS5 having more Ashton vocals again I hope they keep it up with what they do next.

What an intro lol 😆 Have you found what your looking for and Skinny Skinny remain my fave songs on this album, but I just love the message Ashton tells with the whole album. The whole thing could have been straight out of the 90's alternative rock/grunge scene, which as u know is right up my street which is prob why this album is my fave solo work yet.... we will see what Michael drops tomo 🙌 Skinny Skinny takes u on a ride, so unpredictable u just don't know where he is going with it at any point. Keeps u guessing and trust me the mv is mind-blowing really makes u think!! Steph will be able to tell you more, but I believe its a self-reflection song about Ashton himself.

Yep, skinny skinny is a song about body dysmorphia which Ashton has struggled with in the past. He also had struggles with alcohol and even thoughts of suicide.
