I'm sure you've heard the news already, but Patreon is floating Paypal as an option, even for ADULT work on this website.

*** update.

It seems you can freely switch to Paypal at-will, whenever you feel like, if you feel like it.

***Also, I'm not sure if Paypal is already allowed regardless, I guess I should look into that

Well personally to me it makes no difference since I pay through card anyhow but what this likely would enable is new patrons whose only option is using paypal to make the payments.

Snao

Yah, this is interesting for a lot of reasons, especially since Paypal's been so strictly against Adult work of any kind.

Straw

Kinda remains to be seen if their reluctance stems from the uncertainty/chargebacks involving adult rated content and thus is purely financial (which Patreon seems to have managed to negotiate over). Or if there's more ideological frictions at work.

Porn is high risk yeah, believe it or not, and it's what's given places like Offbeatr (kickstarter for porn) their draconian policies and self-protective, crazy rates. x_x;

Dayummmm, does that mean paypal has realized they *aren't* the arbiters of all that's "moral" anymore? About fucking time.

I consider paypal to be a criminal enterprise. They stolen thousands of dollars from me and shut down my ability to run my business as an artist for almost two years. Plenty of other people have had similar experiences. I'd rather burn my money than let paypal have a cut of it.

Snao

I can certainly relate, given their insane enforcement has consistently kept me wary of their open ended policy. I'm not apologizing for them by any means, but I'm sorry you had to go through that. :\

Snao

I'm unsure if that's their real reason, but I'm not familiar with the politics of the people that run paypal. I *am* familiar with porno as a high-risk industry though when it comes to CC chargebacks and fraud tho.

Thanks. I know a lot of us don't have any choice if we want to get paid (or pay someone) for art, but I'd always REALLY encourage anyone who does use paypal to not keep any money in their account, and move money from their account the moment it arrives. I'd also encourage anybody to pay or recieve large payments in multiple chunks to avoid teh chance of paypal siezing them. There's nothing like getting paid for a nice big job that you worked on for months and having paypal freeze your account and then sieze the money.

If you have any real stories to share on this, I am *definitely* interested in reading those articles if it concerns Patreon and Paypal
