I’m oddly irked by Julian pronouncing WhatsApp more like “what’s up” than just flatly “whats app”. While the former is of course the intended pun, it’s very unlike Julian to pay a brand name any respect. I don’t even think Jake would pronounce it like that, and Jake usually speaks so you can hear the ™s in brand names. Julian, how’d they get to you?

Julian's take on the Bolivian crisis is quite something. It was clearly a mess but he conveniently excludes the fact that there was a very suspicious election and even the Trade Unions and his own party called for Morales to resign - not to mention the only reason Morales was able to run was because an unelected court over rode the 2016 referendum which voted against Morales being eligible for another term. The whole thing was a mess, but Julian's as pilled as half the QAnon lot he ridicules. People who defend other leftists no matter what they do don't help the cause, they hinder it.

Loved this episode. The arc of following the clown show in Brazil then your guests closing with the monumental global crisis these people are creating should give is all pause. Cattle and soy" Just so youse know: Cargill (the animal farming/meat agribusiness giant) was caught with supply links to deforestated Amazon soy for export as farm animal feed for chickens and cows etc to the UK/Europe, China, US etc. They apologised, and said it won't happen again, then a few years later were found again to have supply links to deforestated Amazon again. Cattle farming also - they're just going to import them to the so called USA etc. from increasingly deforestated Amazon to make way for this huge, gentle and suffering creatures. Just go vegan folks, there's no improving this food system. Viva! Vegan charity has info on how. Food Empowerment Project in the US. Doesn't have to be and shouldn't be the only thing we do, but look into it cause it really is a help on so many fronts, not just emissions. 6th mass extinction too.

You just have to ignore a lot of mainstream veganism. A bit like mainstream (or white/liberal) feminism - it's problematic by contrast to intersectional femninism. Like with any social justice movement, you can find the right community and learn to recognise the elements you don't rub with values wise. I was following big platform vegan influencers at the start then unfollowed them cause I don't like the lack of transparency on funding them and the fact they're all white, mostly men, even though they do do some good work too. You can skip a lot of that, unlike what I did lol! The Cranky Vegan's 3 minute Fridays are decent place to start. I really like their videos and is where I learned about the Plant Based treatee, for example! Very down to earth vegan chat. Best of luck on your journey! 🌱
