Letters from the field and a conversation about our most embarrassing life moments. Without Annie Kelly,  MANCLAN has become a democratic story-telling exercise. Our guest is David Farrier, the filmmaker behind 'Tickled' and 'Mr. Organ'. Our guest Annie is Cat Tebaldi, postdoctoral researcher in linguistic anthropology within the culture and computation lab at the University of Luxembourg. Together we read listener stories about the various aspects of online masculinity.

Just like on Lady Dynamite. Maria Bamfords "Vagin-istmas" where annually she must have sex because she believes if she doesn't, her vagina will close forever.

Cat Tebaldi sounds maybe as bad as the people she covers. Annie Kelly does a much better job balancing compassion.

Thomas Johnson

sounds like julian accidentally wrote a stoner metal song

Would you say Dimitri is a Master Bateman?

I both wrote that Ayn Rand essay when I was 19 for a college scholarship I did not win AND wrote a shitty anti-"drugs" poem with a mosquito as the EXTREME ON THE NOSE metaphor that got featured in my highschool's yearly "literary magazine" in junior year of highschool, so like 16. I did not smoke weed until I was 28. The very high concentration of targeted cringe I'm currently experiencing is pretty wild.

Damn most of these write ins are so self aware and great.

Julian: You were close - "Gooners" are fans of Arsenal, not Manchester United

This sounds bad but, I am a feminist but also think that sex is transactional and there is a hierarchy. It's normal in the animal kingdom and we are just overly complex mammals afterall.

Mr. Lobotomy

To be, or not to be, a man?

I love this podcast so much, hearing peoples stories was particularly interesting, and i kept thinking how easy it is to slip into the ideological abyss, like in my early 20s i loved Adam Carolla's podcast and Russell Brand's comedy and now those guys are massive shit heads, who might i have become if i followed them in that journey instead of getting bored of them and pursuing other interests, scary stuff, really appreciate people who wrote in

We need to start a Former Adam Carolla Enjoyer support group.

Oh god. Like a decade back I had read a Teamliquid forum post about someone who had supposedly managed to break the vode of microsleep, where he would essentially take four 20 minute naps a day. This clearly didn't affect at all my attendance and grades in college. T_T Guy was just sellingthe image of 8 hours more per day at the cost of a bit more food, the equivalent today would probably involve amphetamines (instead of steroids) and selling vitamin supplements (instead of it just being for the love of trolling)

If Books Could Kill did an episode on The Game that was very empathetic and relatable. I’ll see if my t-levels are up to a proper narrative, but these stories reminded me of my past IRL friend group in Eastern Europe with connections to crypto, a libertarian microstate, and my old roommate’s evening with Anders Breivik. Rogan and Peterson were big names of course, which had been background noise until I came out as transmasc and heard my people were responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire etc. It’s like Cheers, but everyone knows your deadname, and Cliff asks you if you saw the chemtrails this morning.
