Great episode, my mouth could not get any wider right at the beginning of Baby Driver and then it just. kept. going!

I haven’t laughed so hard in months. Tears were streaming and coffee was almost spewed over my work desk. Wednesday MADE.

Hey Jake, as someone that went through 12 years of Catholic school and whose parochial education culminated in a Kairos trip I wanna let you know — you missed nothing. It’s basically a weird therapy session for 17 & 18 year olds that leaves you sleep deprived and talking to the people you never talked to before because you’re forced to do so.

Fellow military linguist :) I also looked into the eyes of the beast and separated. I was a pashto linguist myself. My family is also rather reactionary too. Funny how that works. I got out right as trump was elected and that was right around the time I went crazy. Obama had just made a few good operational changes and as soon as trump was secured all of those got reversed. My whole office were alcoholics and the mental health crisis of all of us with that horrible cognitive dissonance came out in the worst ways. I was air force though and a flyer, and I really did love flying as aircrew. It's just sad it hit so hard once I truly realized after years of training how little we actually did and how little we helped. It ironically makes me a glowie so despite having insider information, most of which(all of which) I obviously can't share, it's impossible to prove I actually know anything so no one believes me anyway. It is a horrible contradiction in having compartmentalized clearance. We know a lot of stuff but nothing people really think we do. It's really just all rather boring. Also interesting is that Snowden stuff happened while I was in training so I saw all the rapid operational changes from that.

I went to UC Irvine and have definitely heard that about the city. It’s at least 1/2 true

I groaned so loud when "it wasn't long before they landed on the Christian Identity Movement" was read.

I like how the Scottish and the Irish flee the confrontation while the Scandinavian guy go for it head first. So typical haha.

“One bad uncle is all it takes to rot a whole family” my god someone embroider that onto something. What a line

Also an urban planner, lots of ugly stuff in planning history, like the origin of zoning (Euclid v Ambler and the regulations behind Moore v E Cleveland). Cult or Just Weird had a great episode on Irvine, it is not a normal city.
