Flashbacks in episodes where the character does or does not die but seemingly might, is the quickest way to lose my interest in the episode. Great reaction and analysis, and I'm glad you found it to combat the trope of getting super powers right before death, but I came out of it unsurprised at the outcome and uninterested in the back story due to the timing of it - why care if it's irrelevant - not the death or near-death mind you, that's very relevant and fulfils another trope not mentioned, but the actual backstory itself. I agree the production and writing of the flashback is great, in comparing it to Todo's flashback it just doesn't hold up to me I think, for a number of reasons. The way Todo's inserts and creates a false / but-true-to-Todo backstory from nothing was much more satisfying to me.

Yeah I had a pretty different reaction tbh because I found each scene in this episode very moving and well-made on its own, but as soon as the two Mahitos passed by each other I felt positive she was going to die, and I found it difficult to get invested in the wonderful flashback because I knew its only purpose was to make the audience sadder about the death. Which I'm fine with to a degree, but when I think of how much potential she had and how little shine she's gotten this season, it kinda pisses me off. So yeah I weirdly find this to be a masterful episode but it also kinda hurt my opinion of Jujutsu Kaisen as a whole.

What happened to jjk?

Tee has taken a break from some of his shows because he started to feel like he overloaded himself.

I'm still expecting to be called out for my opinion on this episode - but surprised to see everyone so far mostly agreed. I think you're right in your comment, and maybe we see more of Nobara, but she definitely got the short end of the stick even with her getting a little time in this episode and the prior fight vs Haruta Shigemo (ponytail boy). Two additional problems I have with the matchup here vs Mahito: 1) Mahito, even being susceptible to Nobara's power, is capable of trading blows with Gojo and has been shown to be unkillable and stronger than everyone else even in 2v1 fights. Let's not kid ourselves, the odds on a Nobara vs Mahito fight were literally 0:100. 2) Nobara's flashback added very little to her character development. Everything that occurs in the flashback is just Nobara being Nobara - we see her younger self exhibiting the personalities of the current day Nobara we already know. Compared again to Todo's flashback - I've seen a lot of reactors do a 180 on his flashback, from hating his male chauvinistic "what's your type" attitude to adoring him after his flashback. And I do want to make it clear I really enjoy JJK S1 and S2 as a whole, I just agree they did Nobara a disservice in S2, which they're allowed to, but that's just how I see it!
