BLUE VELVET (1986) - Full Watch Along

Blue Velvet is a 1986 American neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by David Lynch. Blending psychological horror with film noir, the film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern, and is named after the 1951 song of the same name. The film follows a college student who returns to his hometown and discovers a severed human ear in a field, which leads him to uncover a criminal conspiracy involving a troubled nightclub singer.

I haven't seen this in years, and there's a lot I had forgotten. Now you've piqued my curiosity, and I have to go watch Paris, Texas.

Yes the man in the chair missing an ear was Don lol, I think you mentally blocked it out. Describing Lynch as a painter fits him well, I've heard his image described as moving stills. Another fav director of mine, Akira Kurosawa, also had that style. But Lynch is a surrealist so his imagery have a dreamlike quality to them. This is still early on, he gets deeper into the dreamscapes in his work as he goes on and you can no longer tell what's real, but you can see it starting here. And seeing this now, it's so clear that this was a young Dale Cooper prototype, as if he had this experience in a dream before becoming an FBI agent and going to Twin Peaks. Or maybe Jeffery is the one dreaming of being Cooper. So crazy.
