BLUE VELVET (1986) - MOVIE REACTION - First Time Watching

Blue Velvet is a 1986 American neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by David Lynch. Blending psychological horror with film noir, the film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern, and is named after the 1951 song of the same name. The film follows a college student who returns to his hometown and discovers a severed human ear in a field, which leads him to uncover a criminal conspiracy involving a troubled nightclub singer. I forgot that Harry Dean was in Wild At Heart, until someone mentioned it in the comments. I haven’t seen it in ages. Same with Blue Velvet. Great cast. Lynch definitely liked to use the same actors a lot. And like you, I also was half expecting Dennis Hopper to say “Pop quiz, hotshot.” Who doesn’t love Speed? Dennis Hopper was so good at playing a lunatic. I remember him doing his Blue Velvet character in an SNL skit, but I didn’t realize at the time it was from this. Which reminds me, he did a movie that was shot in Australia called Mad Dog Morgan, apparently he was quite the handful during the filming. Looking forward to watching Twin Peaks episode 2 tonight.
