Superb. This has definitely crossed into guilty pleasure territory for me.

I just cannot imagine this situation go well. Belcourt knows from which portal they entered hells, he can easily place an army there

I must admit I’m not sure what made Lucian no longer care about getting assassinated by demons. Neither he personally, nor the group as a whole got qualitatively stronger since when he had been doing his best to lay low. Even if he gets the Golemancer on his side, is he planning to hide in this fortress forever? Or is his change in approach due to the plague that’s to be spread amongst the humans, putting them on a timer anyway? If so, maybe it could have been articulated in his thoughts, as we spend quite a bit of time in Lucian’s head anyway.

Ty for the chapter 🫡

Dont believe strength comes into the equation in the scenario we've been presented. Thinking back over the last 2 or 3 chapters, believe its along the lines of "Belcourt's walked in, knowing that we're here, after: -I've been part of all events that foiled their plans -i've in a fight that nearly killed an unkillable demon, -I've stole his arm, And now he can see me making a proposal to the golem fella - im fucked" Followed by: "if i dont let him read my mind, me and the plan are fucked. If i do let him, im probably fucked. Might as well pick the option that might work more, while Belcourt cant attack"

Wow. You know back in the beginning of the story when Lucas first awoke as Lucian and crashed out while being depressed for three days, I always wondered why the demons didn’t take advantage of his distress and infiltrate his mind via dreams. I suppose my answer is a little more clearer, since thinking about the information about the War of four not only serves a limitation to Lucian to speak of it origins, it also serves some sort of mental barrier against outsiders. I chalked it up back then that Lucian was perceived so useless from Metterand’s evaluation that the demons didn’t bother. Now I wonder if there is a time Lucian allows the demon to possess him and he thinks about war of four, will it cast the devil out or make it unable to influence his thoughts?

This whole golemancer sequence has been a lot of fun

Does he HAVE an army available? Logistics are a bitch and I doubt he was willing to invest an armies worth of logistical effort on a fact finding mission.

Lucian: "Just lie back and think of War of Four." Looks like the Golemancer left before Lucian could attempt to get Belcourt killed. At this point, I think Lucian needs to go all in. Use every card he has to make Belcourt lash out. Admit to being the source of all the information, to being the one to take the Formless Essence, and to knowing exactly how to destroy the first emperor and all his allies. Pull up any of Belcourt's secrets he has, and make up a few lies too. Rub it in Belcourt's face. With a little help from Aurelia, and the rest of the group, it might be enough. Also, Lucian needs to make it a situation where the Golemancer needs to choose between killing Belcourt or giving up on possessing Lucian. As in, if the Golemancer doesn't kill Belcourt, Belcourt will do everything he can to kill Lucian. Spilling all the information will put them into just such a situation. I wonder if this reaction is just who the Golemancer is, or if this is part of his demonic side? Something in him that just wants to lash out after having his power denied. Really, what Lucian and the others said is right. This is an amazing opportunity for the Golemancer. His eyes, that see all, are failing to see something. That isn't a threat or insult, its something to be studied, to push his knowledge even further. I think the Golemancer is going to give Lucian a piece of equipment he can't refuse. Specifically, bondmail. The Golemancer will agree to the alliance, and to give Lucian time, but to ensure Lucian keeps his word, Lucian will be forced to wear some bondmail. On the upside, and equipment the Golemancer gives is likely to be top notch stuff, because he won't want Lucian dying. Really, it's starting to look like someone or something is setting Lucian up to have the perfect body. Near perfect affinity, hollowed body, an incredible number of blessings and amount of purified essence, inquisitor's mark, Formless Essence, and now the Golemancer wanting to move in. We even have the potential for the holy body. Is this an intentional manipulation? What for? Just generosity? Does Lucian need all these powers in one body for something? Or is this all for someone else's benefit?

I guess you can say… it’s a Heavenly Body…
