Sorry this is late!!! Having a tough time rendering videos right now, might need to change something about my setup... either way this was a spicy episode with the wedding dress debate! And we actually debated about this too, who's side are you on?

I really like Woojin (real tears by the way)— he reflects on himself and admits when he’s wrong. But I don’t think he and Jiyeon will get back together. She needs someone with an office job and a stable schedule, and the restaurant lifestyle just doesn’t fit what she wants. That’s also why she’s interested in Wonkyu. Yoosik & Minkyung: I hope she moves on. She never got closure because he avoided every conversation. Woojin apologized to Jiyeon, but Yoosik said nothing and clearly doesn’t want her back. Now that other girls like him, he’s even less motivated to be honest. His avoidance is the problem — he won’t communicate, he won’t explain himself, he’ll just disappear. Jihyun & Wonkyu: Trying wedding dresses with a male friend as a stand-in groom was a bad idea. They’re both prideful and she’s angry, so communication is shaky. Still, they’re the ex-couple most likely to reconcile if they actually talk. Hyeonji: After Yoosik’s fake crying in the X-room (no tears), now she’s doing the same. Twenty minutes of dramatic sobbing with no tears, then she goes back smiling and texts Yoosik about a date. It makes no sense. This whole episode was heavily criticized in Korea. Big Korean YouTubers — including former cast members — were laughing at Hyeonji’s X-room. The official channel is full of people calling out Yoosik/Hyeonji and the production team. They even deleted her X-room video and the terrace argument, but kept all the others where different cast members get dragged. The favoritism is obvious. They are pushing their couple too much and painting Minkyung as the bad one with dark musics and sound effects. And the irony? Yoosik and Hyeonji are the most hated by viewers. They just added 2 extra episodes (22 episodes instead of 20), probably because they need to re-edit after the huge backlash. On top of that, Hyeonji’s friends basically spoiled the ending — she told them she cried a lot and was the “main star” with the new guy she chose.

BIG INFOS TO FOREIGN VIEWERS. these are ALL broadcasted but wasn't translated fully or translated at all. I'm korean so I can read it in full translation but seeing your subtitles, theres some details missing! At first, Koreans supported Wongyu & Jihyun together, but after seeing the KakaoTalk messages and the full context, Korean viewers now strongly believe Wongyu was gaslighting, hypocritical, and disrespectful. Many say they never want him to end up with Jihyun. Below are the detailed reasons based on what was shown in their real KakaoTalk messages: 1. The “restriction” claim about the Gang Won do travel was misleading Wongyu said they broke up because Jihyun restricted him, especially from traveling. But the messages show the opposite. she never restricted him. -Wongyu asked to go on a Thailand golf trip with male acquaintances. -Jihyun allowed it, and even said, “I’ve already let you go on all the trips you wanted.” She wrote on message that she sent him on all the trips he wanted to go to even the Thailand one. In Korean culture, a Thailand guys’ trip is considered similar to sending a boyfriend clubbing(but worse) — culturally, it’s a sensitive situation. No girls in korea would ever send boyfriends there. SO his claim of being “restricted” is misleading cuz she did send him to trips. 2. Wongyu left out major details and acted hypocritically He said he simply wanted to go to Gangwon-do with friends, but Jihyun restricted him and controlled him BUT: * He said he was gonna visit his friend but suddenly, changed plans mid-day and said he wanted to go to Gang won Do. -Jihyun said no — because when she once wanted to go to Jeju ALONE, Wongyu said “No, you CANT go ALONE. If you want to go we must go together.” In the chat, Jihyun wrote: “You didn’t let me go alone either. You should understand how I feel.” Yet Wongyu acted like he was the only one restricted. WHEN HE RESTRICTED HER. → Classic hypocrisy and selective storytelling (내로남불) is what koreans calling him. 3. His breakup excuse of “reality” makes no sense He knew from the start that: -Jihyun is an actress -Her career is unstable Despite that, he proposed marriage first. Then suddenly he told her: -Not to chase her dream( then what do you chase after? she was 25-26, who just graduated from univ, and he tells her not to chase her dreams? like wtf ) -That arts careers have limits(then whyd you date her in the first place if you want stability SOO BAD, she legit worked her entire life for arts field and hes denying her entire effort, she came to seoul alone when she was a high school student and worked part time job for her dream. She never played around even Wongyu admitts that) Meanwhile, Jihyun: -Worked part-time -Paid for her academy classes -Trained for broadcasting school -Didn’t rely on him financially Yet he didn’t wait or support her — he dumped her when she was going through her hardest because she didn't try her best? he didnt even wait a year like bro whyd you ask her to marry him when you knew about EVERYTHING. The real reason why they broke up surfaced later: He attended another woman’s wedding dress fitting tour, which is a huge cultural boundary in Korea. 4. Wedding dress tour is unacceptable in Korea In Korea: -The first wedding dress a man sees is supposed to be his own girlfriend/fiancée’s, not someone else’s -Even bride's parents normally don’t attend — ONLY the future husband ALSO, Jihyun initially said NO, but Wongyu insisted he had to go. So she reluctantly allowed it.Jihyun mentioned that she agreed to the event only after a long compromise, which means she originally opposed it, but he pushed. Both women and men in Korea say it is: “Unthinkable and extremely disrespectful.” → People see it as prioritizing his female friend over his girlfriend who said no. This event alone flipped public opinion. 5. Boundary issues with female friends He told Ji-yeon that clothes would “look good on her”, complimented her appearance He later claimed she “stole” his clothes, acting like the victim but he kept saying she looks good in the clothes JIHYUN said looks nice and messaged JIYEON she looked good in the clothes. like that aint a reaction to someone who got their clothes stolen. You can see from all his action that he doesn't know boundaries and can't say no to jiyeon or his female friends which is why jihyun said you always have fun with girls (in the first meeting) 6. His attempt to reconcile lacked sincerity He said he wanted to get back together, but: -Didn’t apologize( even baekhyun, woojin, yusik felt sorry) but he only focus on solving the misunderstanding of her about him. not about anything above. -Showed no emotional warmth when jihyun said she wanted that. Only said: “Let’s go on a date quickly. When?” When Jihyun didn’t immediately respond, he got irritated If he is the one who regrets the breakup, He should be the one putting in effort — not demanding things. 7. Gaslighting + No manners People excuse him by saying it’s because he’s an MBTI T-type, but that’s not valid. It’s not “just being logical” — it’s lack of empathy and basic respect He repeatedly called Jihyun immature and said yeahh my friend's wife opened a clinic for my doctor friend. when jihyun was looking for a job and wongyu kept telling her that she shouldnt chase dreams or the limit of art field. bro shes 25. Yet the Kakao talk messages show he is the immature one. He restricted her but only says she restricted him, saying shes not the happy Jihyun he knows because shes having a hard time trying to get a job so he broke up with her. LIKE WTF and he says its the reality that made him break up w her. smh He minimizes Jihyun’s feelings and makes everything her fault — textbook gaslighting. Conclusion Everything above is directly based on their KakaoTalk messages and Korean cultural context. Koreans are outraged cuz : Wongyu rewrote the narrative to look like a victim Blamed Jihyun for everything when the reason is wedding dress tour and he just didn't feel for her anymore. he knew she was in arts field and was okay in the beginning but suddenly complains that art fields aren't stable. Showed hypocrisy, lack of accountability, and entitlement That’s why Koreans are strongly saying: “They should never get back together.” “Wongyu gaslight Jihyun and was completely disrespectful.”

100% agree with your takes on all the pairings! But oh man honestly I personally didn’t noticed the dry/fake tears LOL I was super into it (Namgay noticed the fake crying from HyeonJi) so this is really interesting. I don’t like that YooSik and HyeonJi are being overly hated, but it seems like production team was confident that the crying would work but it didn’t (lowkey upon reflection her crying was a lot of dry heaving) But I didn’t expect them to be heavy favourites in the first place, so the counter backlash is surprising to us.

Maple Dragon Reacts!

Ahhhh this is extremely helpful, thank you so much! I think the most surprising thing is how much he twisted the narrative about being restricted and being hypocritical on that point. That’s interesting that they did not go in depth about what was in the text, I guess producers just assume everyone can read (not us!! Hahaha) I feel really bad for JiHyeon, I didn’t realize the cultural context behind the wedding dress because in western culture, the LAST person to see the bride in her wedding dress is the groom at the ceremony, so that’s why I didn’t think it was a big deal about him going to see the wedding dress (I assumed it was a proximity issue where she just didn’t want him be alone with the bride at the fitting) But honestly, the most frustrating part is that he knew what she was doing for her career, so why is he asking her to change entirely, I can relate to her plight… to be honest what’s why I was rooting for YooSik and JiHyun because they are both pursuing arts careers, they would be understanding of each others boundaries and struggles. But seems like YooSik is more interested in HyeonJi for now But thank you for explaining all of this! We will probably address this at the beginning of the next episode

i thought Baekhyun would be really toxic and the most drama would revolve around him this season but he really seems like a sincere guy. Hope him and Yun nyeong keep being solid!

Maple Dragon Reacts!

yea he seems really sincere honestly, just kind of no-filter and bad at multitasking hahaha but that's definitely okay! with Yun Nyeong and her ex not interested in each other at all, seems like they will be going full steam ahead with their new interests hopefully!

Rewatching this episode with you and already watched the latest episode 12 is hella ackward for Hyeon Ji reaction in the X Room. If I try (really trying) to be positive and everyone come to the show with good intentions, I think HJ invited BH cause it's been too long between them (they broke up 5 years ago) so she thought they are cordial to each other similar to what we've seen with YN and JaH (couple once upon a time and now friendly terms). If you remember during the pre-show meeting, BH was describing stuff they can do once in the show and then when HJ ask, "you mean doing them with me?", BH answered "no, I mean with others" and they both laugh it out. However, what HJ didn't expect was how much she was bothered by him and other girls (especially JH, eventhough they are just friends, just very physical). Plus, I think BH is super romantic when they were together and all the feelings come flooding. And **spoiler to those who didn't watch ep 12** the other ex SY is the most recent one (I saw rumors he is the guy after BH and they broke up quite recent before joining the show) is the one HJ hope can reconnect if she didn't find anyone there (sort of like Sang Jeong from season 3 who wasted her time till her ex came to the show in Jeju Island).
