This ridiculous line has been in the news recently, so that made it the perfect time to put out a video about it!

[EARLY] Montreal Built Canada's Worst Commuter Rail Line...in 2014

I'm open to arguments to the contrary, but it'll take a lot to convince me. Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/milesintransit Twitter: https://twitter.com/milesintransit1 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/milesintransit Website: https://milesintransit.com/

Love the Montreal content. I think it would be pretty cool someday if they built an international commuter rail to Burlington, VT… but of course getting Amtrak to make that connection first is a higher priority (and it seems like MTL has some stuff to figure out as far as commuter rail goes first too!).

Where is your "Now that's a fun fact" translator for this??? I am so disappointed in you Miles. How could you do content like this for us? I am going to be "that guy" in the comments ranting about it. Booooo!!! (Major MAJOR sarcasm alert!!!)

Calvin Witt

Also, this is sad considering what it "could be" and what it "actually is." It almost feels like they built it just for the sake of building it, without really going "Gee, is this really smart???"

This would be a perfect REM line

Also CN electrified some EXO lines like deux montagnes line which is gonna be rem

What angered me the most about the threat to shut down the commuter trains is the Cote-De-Liesse REM station was specially designed with 3 tracks to handle the transfer of commuters from the Mascouche line to the REM to get downtown. If they shut down the Mascouche line it will have cost us so much money for very little service

Max

Hmm yeah, I wonder if you could even just convert it to have the REM make a turn when it gets to that meeting point and take over the rest of it

We need a September bonus video

Among many other things, I like how you mention the liminal feeling of being in that elevator area. I've had a lot of liminal feelings when using transit, especially when its something that seems much bigger or smaller than what I expected.

I said that the livestreams were going to be in lieu of a bonus video! Y'all just voted to make them public ;)

Francois Laforge

I think the spur already existed because that’s how the Mascouche line got downtown. Regardless of what happens the threat of closing the commuter lines has motivated a lot of petitions to keep them open, so people want good train service.

Love all this Canadian content! I’m excited to see more! Mtl has some weird transit, I love the subway with the rubber tires like in Paris. It was always confusing and fascinating to me to use rubber instead of metal.
