This... seems to further emphasize that Roshim is not sleeping with Avalon on purpose, that he's holding a grudge or something against Avalon. And now... now that his dreams have been shattered, with Avalon having seen it coming, Avalon is there to comfort him.

The long voyage may seem pointless now, all those scars for nothing. But it is not, the tower and foundation of Aphelia were not build by grace or anything supernatural. And that is a very important bit of knowledge they were missing apparently.
