Josh A

Tftc!

Aaron Schwartz

Just ask holly. I’ll know. She looked at him, then went to sit down, when her shadow stretched out in front of her forming a humanoid shape on the wall. Which then raised a hand and waved at her. Holly sighed.

Bingus McCready

TFTC!!! Man, shirt is crushing the “late power stage” part of this story, maybe as hard as or harder than any other litRPG/prog fantasy I’ve ever read. Because becoming a cosmic demigod didn’t solve all of Jason’s problems. People are still stubborn and difficult. People die in ways he can’t do anything about. Differences in values still drive wedges between him and people he cares about. It’s a bummer in some ways, but it’s super refreshing to read.

Azayrian105

Holy shit what an absolutely stunning chapter.

s476

Maybe empathetic instead of encouraging here? Zara made encouraging noises

Fulminis

Gotta say, that's a hard line to end on. Awesome Also, he basically told her to pray to him in a way, lol

Laura Hemly

Wow, Jason had to watch his friendship with Craig die *hard*. That really makes me sad, even though Jason was doing the right thing. And then he had to cope with the whole Macrossan family hating him because he totally accidentally caused the monster inside Holly's nephew to emerge and kill the nephew in the process. I feel really bad for Jason even though he did nothing wrong and a lot of fhings right!

TjStorm

“Then it sill fall under your authority “Then it still falls under your authority

Bas van Hoewijk

“Justice, Craig, is doing the best for those who remain, not drawing blood for those who are gone" Best sentence of the chapter. I will be thinking about this for a while.

Jordan Rogers

And as long as he lives he ought to get to that point, may have to wait until Jason finds them a free planet he is t the godking of

Ruth Ivimey-Cook

Tyfc, good one! "disproportionate power levels" isn't the opposite of personal power. Better would be "dispersed" or "group".

Jordan Rogers

What’s crazy is he is still under the threshold for power, once he gets the diamond rank for his body, and then pretty much transcends immediately his power is gonna be crazy

Brian Glazier

Thanks for the biscuits

Adrian

“Justice, Craig, is doing the best for those who remain, not drawing blood for those who are gone". I don't know how evolved or wise you have to be to actually believe that, I just know I'm not there yet. Still, something to look forward to. Thanks for the perspective, Shirt

Laura Hemly

I hope so! But Craig is clearly one of the leaders of the sane vampire community and has to answer to them, so he may have real trouble forgiving Jason acting against what Craig sees as the needs of his community. It's a tough personal dilemma for them both.

FabianTheGreat

Damn, that interaction with Craig was painful ='( Once upon a time, he and Jason were caught up in a speeding biker gang shootout. Fighting side by side against enemy vampires, working to save the world. They'd never been the closest, but Craig was one of my favorite characters. Now he is a broken man, unable to accept his new world and unable to move past old pains. What great writing =')

Pierce

Asano Village isn’t his domain. If she ‘just asks’, how will he know? Sure golf rank perception and all, but he doesn’t spend a lot of time there Mistake or did I miss something?

Laura Hemly

Growing up is always tough, whether as a human, a magic user, a vampire, or an astral king. Especially when Jason, like me, is just floating through life until he accidentally gets drawn to Pallimustus, and all the strange things that happen there.

Laura Hemly

I wonder if he can hear any System user, at least on Earth, where he has a sizeable pair of domains already. Just a wild guess.

Adrian

Do you think reading Vileus' book for Newly Minted Diamond Rankers would help?

Maria Klein

Aww a little bit of heartbreak in this one. Damn Shirt I’m to perimenopausal for these emotional rollercoasters 😂 Great chapter!

Valhazstromoz

When does justice become vengeance?

Pierce

Ooooh Shade… Right. Got caught up since it’s the same language he uses about his domains

Laura Hemly

I suspect few of us have moved beyond "an eye for an eye" yet. You have to forgive to do it, and I know I'm not there yet -- and I'm an old lady now!

Aaron Schwartz

I don’t know if I’d call him a broken man. His friendship with Jason is certainly broken, and he’s having a bad time, but broken? No

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Chiqui Joy

Since Holly is at Asano Village and not one of Jason’s spirit domains, he must have a Shade watching her. Otherwise “just ask, I’ll know” wouldn’t be true. Right? Im not forgetting something important about Asano Village?

Bryan Jackson

No, he used the right term. He's specifically referring to how a small power fights against a larger one (guerilla fighting, etc), not the difference between personal power and institutional power.

Oddrey

Tftc

PapaJohn

“Just ask. I’ll know” that’s some god stuff there😂💀

mockery jones

Keeping E alive to answer questions and trading her continued survival for her info is in this case doing the best for those who remain. But if she didn't have that info to trade, I wonder if Jason would say that is still the case.

Kristy Riedel

Good question. Shade is pretty busy around the world, so it seems a waste for him to have a body with her.

mockery jones

I'm betting mistake. He's not going to leave a valuable shade copy with this rando until she dies. The real question is, was it authorial mistake or Jason just legit forgetting he doesn't have god powers everywhere.

William Lane

Jason would rather leave shade for someone he feels he has hurt than he would use shade for reconnaissance

William Lane

While I do love every single chapter, like to the point where I almost double read every single one, I hope we will hear from the rest of Jason’s team soon. Even if it’s about their opinions on earth, or what they’ve been up to day to day. I miss them is all.

James Skinner

Sophie attracting inappropriate attention on two planets.

mhaj58

In God of War ragnarok we saw how Sindri began acting like Brok after his death. Now Holly is doing the same thing expressing interest in the super hot Celestine like her nephew did. It’d be so funny if it wasn’t so heartbreaking

Daniel is ŁØNE

I could have sworn Asano village is in a domain or am i tripping? If not tho then you would be right.

Mike Zebill

It could just be a chapter of them comparing various junk foods and cat videos from the internet.

Coolafman

Vampiruccino

John Durrett

Unwanted perhaps, inappropriate for asking a persons relationship status? Definitely not.

NetWon

Bit confused. Why is Jason keeping Elizabeth alive?

Mr_Top_Hat

Just ask I'll know that's totally not creepy I can imagine Jason turning a corner and being like "stupid Jason stupid why did you say that you sound so creepy god I need to get better at this mysterious god thing Shade add that to my to do list" "yes Mr Asano it's number it is number one thousand one hundred and ninety seven on and I quote "Jason's list of super important stuff that needs to be done" right after find out when and why power ranger colours changed"

ABTelford

Great chapter! Even if it did leave me feeling a little down and gloomy. But that just makes it real.

mhaj58

She’s spent the time away preparing multiple cataclysmic contingencies to leverage her surrender to Jason with the best possible outcome for herself. Blood oaks, nuclear weapons, and whatever happened to Hollys nephew are just the ones we know about so far

AA

Just been rereading the earlier books for the umpteenth time. And Jason is being way to nice the morons on earth....and they keep going down the same routes even now....I get shirt is trying to show Jason growing...but at this point it's just getting ridiculous how much he is letting them get away with....at some point he is going to have to put his foot down and start killing a bunch of stupid people. Plus always hated how everything always seems to be Jason's fault, even when his family don't even try to understand his perspective..

John Collier

It’s definitely not in a domain so a shade body seems the only option here

John Collier

When it’s not helping the greater good. If killing her stops deaths then it’s justice but her death now would serve no purpose, save no lives, that’s not justice that’s vengeance

Valhazstromoz

What about punishment? Letting her off like this leaves a bad taste in my mouth after all the pain she's caused

John Collier

Or as shirt puts it Justice is doing the best for those who remain, not drawing blood for those who are gone

John Durrett

my 2 bits. Many proclaim that the killing of an individual is prohibited by God. That only God has the inherent right to kill. Righteous killing is perceived as killing in the name of God, on behalf of God, Ordained by God. All of which is debatable on so many levels. Vengeance to me is more about killing someone without having all the facts and insights, but a blind fury to avenge someone. Whats missing is the full context. Judges, juries, lawyers, law enforcement and investigators duty is to uncover all the details. Repute false claims, people being framed, parents (Mother or Father) acting in defense of someone or themselves. There are many flavor texts available for scrutiny. If I found out that my daughter was raped and a suspect named, my desire to un-alive them immediately and without mercy would be vengeance. If I buried the wrong person, it would be an injustice to another individual and their family and a stain upon my soul (should I have one). Which is why Justice is best served with a cool head and a team of people seeking answers. Even then, people are put away for life only to be exonerated decades later when better technology comes along to prove their innocence.

Aaron Schwartz

First of all, she’s not a Rando. She’s the UN secretary of relations with Jason Asano. And second of all, he doesn’t have enough shade bodies to keep an eye on everyone on the planet sure, but at this point, he has literal hundreds of them. Enough to leave one with a person who is not necessarily the highest on his priority list, but is definitely someone he should be paying attention to.

John Durrett

I'm not ready to say his friendship with Jason is broken. Is Craig and his community hurting, yes. But Jason still considers him a friend and I don't believe Craig has given up on Jason as a friend either. They both have obligations outside of their friendship that they are trying to meet.

John Durrett

Leaving it behind is not the same as learning from it. If you find a pattern that accurately predicts future actions and behaviors, its best to plan for the future with those patterns in mind.

John Durrett

I don't believe it died. They simply have obligations outside of their friendship they are trying to meet.

John Durrett

If she doesn't connect his comment to Shade, then it would certainly sound that way.

John Durrett

tyftc. Many things to ponder. Enjoyed it.

Cryfdwr

It’s not a domain. Both of his domains in this universe are in Europe

Laura Hemly

She needs to reveal the whereabouts of ALL that stuff before anyone, no matter how justified, kills her.

NetWon

But Jason has that info now right? I mean, that info becomes useless if those contingencies are used by others before she tells Jason.

Cryfdwr

Dang, did it miss a chapter? Last I recall Holly was when Sophie was outside of her airplane… Edit - found it, somehow I read the beginning and the end of the chapter, just not the middle 🤣

pyrite jester

It's not just showing growth. It's the fact that despite being the hegemon, Jason has never wanted or agreed with even the concept. His power and influence has grown to the point it's either kill everyone on earth, enslave the earth, or abandon it. He's picking the best option he has. When he left last time he would have either enslaved or killed until all he had left was the tyrant inside. He's trying to save everyone but if they decide they don't want it he'll save his people and leave the rest to die.

pyrite jester

I think he has over 210 bodies and that was before Jason became a full astral king. I think shade has to be there cause asano village isn't his domain or the Japanese asano clan wouldn't have been able to live there

S_Ally

I have been increasingly frustrated with everything bad happening somehow being Jason's fault. Especially when his sister (who was practically the only person who's opinion he cared about on Earth) started blaming him for saving her and her family from EOA assassins! On Pallimustus he didn't hesitate to kill the bad guys, why start hesitating now when it is literally costing time and lives? He doesn't need to be a role model for anyone. His niece is grown now, she can handle hard realities and understand the difference between unhinged killing, and doing what is best for the planet. These people are literally destroying the world they live on.

Egar Sugimo

Not sure if I should make a suggestion here but when he is having the convo with Zara he ask if he should use a task force in which she replies that if it’s in his domain then it’s still under him and he could do it without losing face. Then he says the following but it doesn’t really mesh with there previous dialogue. I know Jason likes to talk but he just regurgitates what she offered as advice. He could probable acknowledge it and say your right I should call them in since I tend to run off topic. Here is what it says currently that I’m talking about. “Of her cooperating and me murdering her if I even think she’s holding out on me? She says yes, but even I can’t read that woman. I’m going to bring in task force people to interrogate her, under my supervision. I have the power, but I could use someone detail oriented, who knows how to question a subject. I tend to drift off topic. Miss things. We’ll see what she gives us and go from there.”

Ruth Ivimey-Cook

I think Holly asked about Sophie because Tim was very interested in Sophie, and Holly was wondering if Tim might have got together with her. Not for herself.

Ruth Ivimey-Cook

Vengeance is trying to asuage your pain by making another person feel pain. It pretty much never works that way. Justice is attempting to right the wrong done, which is hard or impossible in many situations, hence many religions leaving Justice for God. Forgiveness is not about the other person: it is about yourself, always. If you can forgive, you can move on. If you cannot, then you are trapped.

Ruth Ivimey-Cook

An eye for an eye may feel like Justice, for a while, but in the end (as the Lyric goes) the world goes blind.

Tom Vernon

Killing in the name of "God" is actually blasphemy of the worst kind. Jason should do it

AA

Exactly, he bends over backwards for others stupid sensibilities... Even when that would have gotten them killed if not for Jason...why is it his responsibility to be the mature one in every situation... It's time the other stepped up, or fcked off...

Ruth Ivimey-Cook

Bryan, I get he's referring to guerilla tactics, but in my mind disporportionate simply means fighters with a very different power level - e.g a sword vs a rifle. The difference between Palli and Earth has frequently been stated to be that Earth people are used to working with group power, where a team can be better than a single person, while on Pallimustus powerful individuals can easily beat armies of the less powerful. Hence it is not a case of disproportionate power being a differentiator - both planets can have single people with very different power levels. Instead it is that on Earth teams work, while on Pali they --kind of -- don't.

Ruth Ivimey-Cook

A couple of nits: "fully intent to use them, where she would" => "fully intend to use them, whereas/while she would"

Ariel

I just want to know what new foods Neil discovered

Egar Sugimo

Thanks. Lol I promise I don’t think all Celestine’s look alike :)

Bryan Jackson

It's his responsibility to be the mature one because he is the one with the power. That's it.

Bryan Jackson

You're still misunderstanding. The point is that no one on Pallimustus would dare to attack someone a rank above them, because it's essentially just suicide. But on earth, people have learned how to actually fight powers that eclipse them, because humans from earth have fought against countless overwhelming powers. The entire point of the passage is that earth humans are better at this than Pallimustus natives, because earth humans already have a collective knowledge of how to actually fight against an overwhelming enemy

Arieh Sochaczevski

Biscuits! Jason being blunt about his power, without resorting to comedy, is just really dark.

ThoMiCroN

Your->You’re* right

pyrite jester

Yes this. Almost a direct quote from Jason about his own thoughts on the matter 2(?) chapters ago?

AA

Yeah because the GABs have been so mature.... I always hate it when only the MC is held to a ridiculous standard.....

Bethany Bluebird

Yep... and that's why Jason is one of my favorite male protagonists; he's INCREDIBLY well-written. Nothing sexier than a man who can accept responsibility/acknowledge his own failings as a person. Jason's got power. He KNOWS he could do basically anything and almost no one on Earth could stop him. But he also recognizes that he's just one guy and maybe not everything should EVER be up to just one guy to decide. Shirt does character voices so well in general. I don't think there's been a character yet who I haven't found compelling in some way. I especially appreciate how he tends to handle writing women, too-- he just. Writes them as PEOPLE. And it's so refreshing.. particularly after delving into some other litrpg series that do NOT handle them with the same nuance and care.

Soli116

Which your? The "She's in your hands" is your. She's in you are hands would be silly.

Adrian

I know it's just a typo, but I now want Golf Rank perception 😂

Kristy Riedel

Try thinking of it as Jason using earth in the same way he used the GABs (to reach gold). He has a weakness (diplomacy) and he is working to strengthen himself in that area. It is just another tool he will have in his toolbox for eternity. Nothing in Jason's story is really about the enemies he faces, or idiots he deals with, it's about his personal development. It is why these stories appeal to both those who are deep thinkers and those who just want to be told a story.

Kristy Riedel

Say Jason knows where 217 nukes are hidden. It would be useful to learn from Elizabeth that she hid 302.

Kristy Riedel

And then we'd hear from the whiners here that the plot didn't move forward.

Kristy Riedel

Shade has 211 bodies right now, because Jason is gold rank. He will get more when Jason reaches diamond. Jason then needs to reach peak diamond to then transcend.

AA

I get that and it's why I am still here. But allowing the morons to get away with it is not actually helping them to learn anything and it's not helping the people they are supposed to protect....his in action is allowing a lot of bad things to happen to people who don't deserve it

Kristy Riedel

He hasnt let anyone get away with anything. He has given them information and the time to do the right thing. He is not sitting idly, but taking steps to save earth if they choose poorly.

Doodlyboy15

That was a rough but good ending to the chapter, thanks

Monty Crisco

a bit off-putting to have her ask if Sophie was single while mourning the death of her nephew.

Bryan Jackson

She was asking *because* of her nephew, who had asked the same question right before dying.

RonGAR

Make all Who made fun of my Chin Kneel down and apologize LOLOLOLOLOL

RonGAR

Didn't Boris tell Jason not too long ago that... "You can make ppl do what you want, but not be who you want!" Seems like that should've bounced around his head for a good while after seeing Vermillion and the other vampire's reaction all over his realm.

RonGAR

“I should have realized,” he continued. “I’ve been thinking in Pallimustus terms, where personal power is everything. I’ve been acting like that on Earth, and I keep getting blindsided. Here, they’re better at working with disproportional power levels. Insurgency, infiltration, guerilla tactics. Civilian targets.” THIS...THIS RIGHT HERE Shows why Earth will eventually overthrow Pallimustus's power structure. Especially after they find Purities treasure and clean off all the monster core residue and become 'True Golds'. (Another thing I wish Jason kept his yap shut about.)

Justin Fralin

I don't think so, because I highly doubt the gods and dimond rankers will take it lying down. Jason will go nuclear

William Lane

The whiners can kiss my rakishly handsome tooshy. Coming back to this comment late, but we finally got some neil and clive in a more recent chapter, and it literally threw half the rest of the chapter out of my brain

Kconraw

Thx for the chapter

StarkRG

Yeah, Pallimustus has Diamond rankers, many of them, and when Diamond rankers go to war, civilizations fall. Even if Jason and team biscuit were diamond and fought on Earth's side (which I doubt they'd do), that would only ensure that both planets get scoured.

Opossums Coat

This is such a hard chapter. Poor Jason having to come to terms with his decision to not be a tyrant

Chloe

Tyftc

Mary Joyce

Probably already mentioned somewhere... "Then it sill fall under your authority" should be will fall or still falls. Great chapter though! Thanks.
