Hey guys,

I'm absolutely delighted to announce the earthquake documentary is finally out on Abroad in Japan.

A huge thank you to each and every one of you for supporting us and making it possible.

As I mentioned before, it's the single most expensive video we've produced in 12 years and I hope you'll agree it was for a worthy cause.

When we set out to produce this documentary, the main focus was actually Tokyo. We wanted to dig into the preparations the city had made in anticipation of the mega-earthquake.

And yet, on our shoot in Noto and the town of Wajima, we were absolutely shocked to find the town had been completely destroyed - despite being barely covered by the media.

If this documentary does one good thing, it's share the town's story with the world. It's been severely neglected and I hope the coverage this project brings, is able to somehow do some good. I hope to return there in 2025.

We also explore Tokyo's insane $2bn underground cave, meet Governor Koike and experience a terrifying earthquake simulation.

I was in Kanazawa on Jan 1, 2024 when that earthquake hit. It was surreal. We were on the 9th floor of a new hotel so the building moved quite a bit. Kanazawa seemed to have much more modern buildings and wasn't hit as hard as Wajima (being 100km away) so the damage was more superficial. End of 2019 we were in Kobe and visited a center built after the kobe earthquake/fire. It had an earthquake simulator like in the doc. And my wife remarked after Kanazwa that it was very very accurate.

The production quality for this film was so high, that I was struck the most by how short the credit roll was. Only one page? I was expecting dozens of crew to make this happen. Good show, Chris. Storytelling is your strength.

Just finished watching your documentary now. Really shocking scenes and disappointing to hear that the Japanese Government aren't helping as much as they can. There was an anime convention in the UK called DOKI DOKI Manchester that raised funds for AID FOR JAPAN (supporting victims and orphans from the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011). AID FOR JAPAN has now closed for good and so has DOKI DOKI Manchester as of last year. Wish there was a way to put on an event similar to DOKI DOKI Manchester to raise money for those impacted from this earthquake, or for AID FOR JAPAN to come back and redirect funds to this earthquake.

The scale of destruction in Wajima is crazy, especially to still be living with it when we've seen such swift recovery from other disasters in Japan. I hope the documentary helps shine a light on Wajima and the situation improves for the local people. Terrific documentary as ever, interested to see what topic you cover next.

It feels so wrong to sit here in my house on my couch and watching these people living the way they are. I remember when there was a tornado that ripped through my city. I volunteered my help to people that lost everything, their homes, cars and literally all their clothing. They had nothing. Then I would go back home to a house that was heated and everything. Like even though you helped out as much as you could, it never feels like enough. It was truly heart breaking.

Just want to say as an Alaskan who has experienced many an earthquake, when people say “oh the ground shakes it’s kind of fun” it really isn’t, it really is serious. Y’all did a good job of conveying them and the PTSD behind them!
