Might be hard to remember (I certainly didn't when I first watched this), but you've actually seen Spooge before in Breaking Bad. Unfortunately, his character arc ended with getting his head crushed by an ATM machine.

also i’m sure someone will say it better, but throughout the show they use take-out food to show the state of Kim & Jimmys relationship. like one of them will always ask the other if they want to get food, & the others response says a lot about their dynamic at the time. like in season 4 during their fight about Huell, Kim rejects Jimmys offer for take-out food

This episode was directed by Rhea Seehorn (Kim)! The food discussion was great. Along with what you both said, I think there's a class element to it -- it shows their level of comfort and feeling of safety as lawyers; also with their luxurious apartment etc.. It's like their law-breaking is partly a game -- deep down they feel it will never really come back to hurt them. Then it's such a contrast, and therefore more impactful, when Jimmy is stranded out in the desert and forced to subsist. But as much as they are comfortable, it's also noticably different from Howard, Cliff, Rich's constant eating out in really high end restaurants. Jimmy and Kim prefer fast food and takeaways and there's a robust practicality to that. That ties into both characters' feelings of being outside of the law world's in-group, which is what really ties them together and again is partly due to their backgrounds. There's also intimacy to all the eating scenes. Along with the recurring cigarettes and beer, it signifies them letting down the front that they each put up to face the outside world, and showing their true selves only to each other. It's amazing how much substance there is in such an unacknowledged detail.

girls, you're not supposed to feel good about what Kim and jimmy are doing to Howard--its despicable, and he doesn't deserve it --at all.

the thing about Gus telling Mike he wants a better restaurant worker/hitman is that we don't actually know if he's a bad cook or Gus is just being in his nit-picky perfectionist era bcuz he's agitated. We saw how he kept Lyle late for what felt like hours trying to "clean" a fryer basket. Who's to know whether that new guy is actually bad at his job or Gus is just experiencing a hyperfixation perfectionism episode.

Yes but it is FUN to see them be cute and execute funny scams together. Like it's entertaining and they have nice chemistry that makes me happy. Even if its bad and Howard doesn't deserve it really.

Great reaction! Maple definitely has a point re: food, Jimmy is constantly ordering in or bringing takeout home. I think for Jimmy being able to get 'exotic' food on demand is a staple of "rich-ness". He would thrive in the modern doordash age. Loved seeing Mike and Kim meet, so fun when two characters who never meet finally do. I don't have much to add except it takes me out every time Maple references I Think You Should Leave. Nobody I know irl watches it 😭

It took 6 seasons but we finally got a scene between Kim and Mike and it was 1000% worth it. Oh man the season only gets better from here.

First episode directed by Rhea Seehorn, yay, she did a great job, that whole sequence with Jimmy dressed as Howard was so fun. One thing I only just noticed this episode and last is that Kim seems to be wearing more colorful blouses lately, like Saul is rubbing off on her. Still obviously more classy than anything Saul wears, but still, I like the detail ^^ Also great to see Wendy again, she's a real one xD

It’s also fun to remember Walt visiting Gus and seeing kids toys in the corner. Sure, we could’ve guessed by the end of Breaking Bad that those toys were just positioned as manipulation, but it’s still surprising to see that his entire house is basically a set. Also, the moment when Jesse contemplates poisoning Gus by slipping the ricin into the stew and Walt complains about him not going through with it. Jesse was absolutely being watched like a hawk and never had a real chance anyway.

This episode puts to rest a fan theory that was proposed mostly as a joke -- early in the series people were speculating about characters in BCS that weren't in Breaking Bad. like Howard and Kim and several others. One person proposed that Kim would be so destroyed by Jimmy's activities as Saul that she would quit the law, become a drug addict, and end up as the origin story for Wendy the daytime hooker. This episode marked that ideas death by putting the two together in a scene (notably the same episode that killed the theory that Kim and Mike were the same person (which made as much sense as the Kim/Wendy theory). What Kim and Jimmy are doing at this point to Howard is horrible -- it's an important line being crossed, in that Kim has enjoyed working with Jimmy on his simpler scams, where the marks are only taken for the price of an expensive bottle of tequila. Last season though, she came up with the idea to scam the DA's office on Huell's behalf (though Jimmy still did most of the legwork on that one. But now they are really working together to take Howard down by ruining his reputation, and it's Kim taking the lead -- Jimmy has shown at least some reservations on several occasions, and it's Kim that talks him back into it. Lalo, absent for both of these episodes, is BCS's equivalent to Gus's introduction in BB. Gus was practically the opposite of the Salamanca's, a meticulous planner and schemer who could be quite violent but it was always strategic, not just macho posturing. Lalo is a Salamanca worthy of respect, not as intellectual as Gus but with an ability to plan and follow through on those plans.
