The Evolution of Ghosts

Ghosts have a history. Despite seeming like a timeless aspect of religion, metaphysics and culture, ghosts have evolved through time. From polemics with 'pagan' Romans, encounters with Germanic mythology and combat with Enlightenment Rationalism, Ghosts have greatly transformed through time. Let's explore the evolution of the western Ghost. Well... I haven't seen Mom since she died, but have spoken to her, and sometimes felt like she was in the room -- less so over time though. It seems like a normal part of letting go, transitional, a little like the phantom leg sensations of a recent amputee. I can't debate whether she actually visited or not, because I have no idea. For whatever it's worth, I did ask her to say hi to Ozzy for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Very interesting! For what it's worth (it's almost as if videos like this ask for people to share ghost stories...!?!), I have had several occasions on which I wasn't sure if what was occurring was a ghost or not. Sometimes, I think it was. But I will share with you a "related ghost" story that I was not present for, but have heard about, concerning my maternal grandfather. He died in October of '93, close to his birthday, after a long decline with Alzheimer's. A number of years later, the house he and my grandmother lived in since shortly after their marriage in the late '40s was sold and my grandmother moved into various retirement communities that she lived in until she died in September of '07. Not long after that, the people who bought their house began giving reports to my mother's cousin that the pool table--one of several large things in the basement that then "came with" the house for the new buyers--would have the racked and ready pool balls break and go into the pockets by themselves at night on many occasions. It appears Grandma and Grandpa were still enjoying their former home's amenities...perhaps. ;)

A very haunting video! Interesting to learn how the christian interpretation of ghost changed, at least among the learned of the time. The 'folk' traditions I'm sure continued, even if the original meaning became lost over the centuries. Looking forward to learn how the Enlightenment philosophers saw the witch trials.

Sounds great and always look forward to seeing your insightful thoughts.

Great video as always. I had left a comment under it but I think YouTube got spooked.

Ghosts are one of my more pronounced topics of interest. Thank you for your content! And since I can't seem to figure how to share Youtube videos from the app onto my Instagram feed (not DM), I hope I get the chance to win Paracelsus' Die Wunderarznei in old german. Would be real Throwback!
