What a fine day it is! I am extremely proud & happy to release the first episode of a brand new Quinns Quest show, Play to Find Out.

In a nutshell, PTFO is the actual play show where we torture ourselves (and maybe learn a thing or two) playing notorious old roleplaying games from the 1980s and 1990s. If you're not sure how to get access to your personal, private, Quinns Quest Patreon podcast RSS feed, you can find instructions right here.

The first episode of each season of PTFO is being released publicly, but as Quinns Quest patrons you'll have access to the whole season, with new episodes dropping every week for the next month.

But wait! There's more! As Patrons you now also have access to this trove of images containing excerpts from the Jorune book, as well as those bonkers character sheets. And with each new episode drop, I'll be depositing new files into that folder.

PLEASE don't share your private podcast feed outside of the Patreon, but if you'd like to see more of the show, the best thing you can do is share the public feed among anyone you think would enjoy it. Here it is on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pocket Casts, Amazon Music, Castbox, and the Quinns Quest YouTube Channel.

I hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording.

Jimmy Keating

So excited for what’s sure to be an amazing show!

Danny Tallon

Looking at the title of this RPG, I am getting massive "HARK, TRAVELLER!" energy

Max Brannan

As an old man, this contribution to maintaining cultural memory is greatly appreciated.

Sam Slad

That was an amazing experience! Is the sound track of this series available elsewhere for download/purchase as slapped so good!

qquest

Ah, I love the soundtrack to pieces. It's by Will Savino, who doesn't sell this work specifically but his website is here and has some amazing D&D playlists! https://wsavino.com/playlists

Wild-Diglett

This was amazing, and the teasers for upcoming episodes was hilarious. I'm incredibly excited to see where this goes.

At a certain point during the glossolalia I just started cackling. Then thrombo showed up.

This reminded me of the gostak (a bonkers text adventure in a made up, untranslated dialect with no dictionary). You have to derive meaning from syntax. I’d recommend it to anyone who liked this. Also, this has been the best part of my week. Thank you, Quinns!

J

Does anyone else think the Thriddle sounded a bit like Keir Starmer?

John Ryan

Wait, is there any difference between the Patreon feed and the public feed versions of the podcast? I’m listening on Apple right now.

lawzer

I've tried listening to quite a few actual play podcasts with little success, however this world and the wobbly systems instantly sucked me in. I think it also helped that there were less voices overall to get used to compared to the 5+ player sized games I've usually encountered online. Looking forward to the next!

Ben McKenzie

Rather than having to pick a specific platform, is there a publicly shareable general link for the podcast?

Ben McKenzie

Also: immediately my new favourite Actual Play podcast.

John Nemo

The big question is... are they gonna be wet down?

Ennis Jackson

Joined IMMEDIATELY upon finishing the first episode on youtube. Oh man. What a delight.

Stephen Schulze

This is delightful. The endless cavalcade of proper nouns feels like a parody of high fantasy and RPGs, but it couldn't work nearly as well if it weren't made with such love and sincerity

qquest

There's actually not! The YouTube link, maybe? That has the most comments and has all the other links in the video description. Aware it's not perfect though Hmm. Maybe with season 2 I'll make one

qquest

Yes, the rest of the season of Jorune will only be uploaded to the private Patreon feed

So here’s the thing. I love playing rpgs. And GMing them. And reading them and buying them, all of it. But Actual Play podcasts? I’ve bounced off so many. It’s not for lack of trying!! I love the idea of them. But, and please excuse me for saying… So many of them just feel like theater kids all backslapping each other. And that’s ok! Good for them! But I’m not a theater kid, and it just feels like a table I’m not meant to sit at and I’m honestly ok, cause my friends are at another table anyway. But THIS AP PODCAST? I’m cracking up at the gym at 5am just listening to yall read stat blocks out loud. No other notes, gold, cannot wait for more.

@NotInventedHere

Quivering trid nodes, what a thistingly good podcast!

Craig Pressley

This is so creative. I would expect nothing less!

corvidpecunia

Love this so much, wonderful stuff

Solis Sagittarius

This was an absolute delight and I am absolutely stoked for more Jorune and what lies beyond!

Jim Huxter

That was great! It moved along at a satisfying pace with a great sense of humour. Somehow you managed to avoid the common actual play problem of getting bogged down in the mechanics while also making experiencing those mechanics part of the joke. I hope this brings in a load of new patrons as it feels like a great release model for that.

Chips

I keep thinking I don't have time for another podcast, but I'll make sure to find time for this as the 3-session Actual Play you did with Matt and Pip years ago was a tremendous amount of fun to listen to! A simple question though: I'm not familiar with apps (still listening through an old iPod since iTunes hasn't yet been dumped by Apple, which I'm so grateful for), so will we have a new post here with the ability to download every time there's an episode, or do I have to start using something else?

qquest

Yessir! If you don't want to use the podcast RSS feed, each new episode will be posted on the Patreon.

Jason Aronson

This was so profoundly excellent!! Very well done! The editing is fantastic, as well.

Craig Pressley

I'm supporting your cause. An article MT Black shared about the best TTRPG games of 1996. https://refereeingandreflection.wordpress.com/2020/03/16/the-arcane-top-50-where-are-they-now/

Lojaan

Oh my god the name "Kenth" rolls off the tongue like curdled milk. It's up there with "Evan Kelmp" as having a truly appalling mouth-feel. I love it!

Brett Rolfe

Nice to see MERP on their list. I have such fond memories of it, and it rarely gets a mention anywhere!

Rob Morgan

This is so nice to hear Stephen! As Quinns has said elsewhere, we started off thinking that we'd be grinding through old games and parodying how self-important and shonky they were. But we ended up so sincerely fond of the world of Jorune and the love its creators put into it. Even its extremely unforgiving combat!

Jacob LaBruzzo

This is such a great example of running a ttrpg. I'm gearing up to run one with my friends after running a really goofy one with my kids and I been feeling nervous like I have to create this world that is really immersive with believable characters but I'm seeing you can lift the curtain a bit on rules and rolls and just have fun and everyone enjoys it

Grace Paterson

Just joined! I was very impressed by the first episode of this AP. I love the idea of revisiting old RPGs. They are such a blast to read but so hard to get to the table, so this is very neat!

Paper Birch

This is what pushed me to join the patreon. Amazing work! Can't wait for more episodes!

Aaron W

Haha wow - I remember seeing ads for this game in Dragon Magazine in the 80s, and I never could figure out what it was about, and I didn't remember the name, but the images burrowed deep into my brain. So when I saw samples of the art in the Rascal article, I recognized it immediately, some 40 years later. I'm very excited to see what it plays like! OK here I go!

Darren

Such an awesome first episode! Love that you’re going with old RPGs. Also the bits of background sounds and music are a really great and unique addition. They feel super tastefully integrated, and add a ton of intrigue and emotion. Props to Kate and Will!

James O'Dwyer

You had me at "Don't be unnecessarily mean to the Thriddle"

Longwing

The score is delightful. Any chance we could get a copy?

Alexander Trifan

This is so good! Couldn't imagine I'll see (well, hear) an actual play featuring Skyrealms! Thanks!

Tyro The Fox

The 70s/80s Pulp Fantasy Mysticism is so thick. It is very fun how it was introduced.

Michael Scaife

A player converting units of measurement of weight into Jam is the most English thing I've ever heard in my life.

Rob Sothoth

What can I say? Well three things: 1. I remember seeing the cover of this game at some point a million years ago and I'm pretty glad I didn't buy it. I have nowhere near the attention span to wrangle this world but I'm glad you do because 2. I am elated to know you have a live play show. I can tell you're a terrific GM or whatever the hell they call it in this particular game. 3. I forget what number three was. But thank you for doing this stuff; I'm super happy to support you. Oh wait! #3 is that I'm also a fan of your players! Thombo (yes that's a penis gender joke) and Emily.

Aoife

Quinns you have to stop making these patently impenetrable games sound so playable and appealing!
