Meira had been both relieved and gotten more nervous when she heard Lord Thayne had arrived with the rest of his entourage at the teleportation circle. Armed with that knowledge, she knew he would soon arrive at his residence, and Meira got herself ready mentally for when that would happen.

As expected, it didn’t take long before he was there. Incredibly nervous about seeing him for the first time after so long, Meira flew over to his residence and prepared to knock on the door as he swung it open before she even had the chance to.

He stood in the doorway, his usual casual demeanor on full display. He looked the same as the last time they met, though his aura had definitely grown once more. Unsurprisingly, considering he was in a constant state of improvement.

Yet when she looked at him now, it felt different, and she knew it wasn’t because he had changed. Lord Thayne had been the same person for all the time Meira had known him, which was likely why it was so much easier to realize her own feelings regarding him.

For a long time, Meira had seen Lord Thayne as her only Path. That if she wanted to live and have any kind of future, her only choice was to cling to him as hard as possible. He had been the one to change her Path and allow her to become who she was, after all, and a part of her had always feared that all he had given could be taken away if she displeased him too much.

To say she had developed a dependency on him was an understatement. Her emotions had further developed into something she believed was more than mere dependency. Throughout her childhood, she remembered her father always talking about the importance of making the best of their situation. When the young master of a powerful faction took an interest in her, Meira’s entire family acted as if it were the greatest gift they could possibly receive.

Both her parents had instilled in her the idea that if a person of such status showed even the slightest interest in her, she should seize the opportunity and try to convince them to fully pursue her, hopefully forming a relationship.

Lord Thayne was a person of status beyond anything she could even imagine when she first met him, to the point where it was honestly horrifying. Yet he treated her nicely and even wanted to actively help her. To this day, Meira still didn’t know exactly why he decided to help her. If it was out of pity or perhaps just because his Patron had forced her upon him. Either way, it didn’t matter to Meira.

She interpreted his kindness – or perhaps just lack of apathetic callousness – as a sign that he was indeed interested in her. Truthfully, in the beginning, the primary reason she’d gone along with everything he wanted her to do wasn’t to improve for her own sake, but just because he wanted her to, and she believed that if she did as he wanted, it would please him.

However, with time, her mindset shifted. She began to enjoy the feeling of improving herself, especially as she made friends and got to know other people both in the Order and outside of it. With her Master making her his Chosen, she felt like her entire life had truly turned around and become something she could bare recognize.

Even so, her emotions toward Lord Thayne remained. No, perhaps they grew even stronger. A part of her still hoped that if her status grew enough and if she proved herself capable, he would one day look at her with different eyes and decide that she was worthy of being at his side.

During her time in Nevermore, Meira had a lot of time to think, and the Challenge Dungeons had actually ended up helping her a lot. Especially the Test of Character one. It had allowed her to realize many things about herself, including the insight she now had into her own emotions toward Lord Thayne.

For the longest time, she had legitimately believed this was what love was supposed to feel like. What else was it supposed to be? Lord Thayne made Meira feel safe; he was strong, had status, and she could get along with him. Based on all her parents had ever said, this was like finding an invaluable natural treasure.

This mindset wasn’t entirely wrong, but Meira knew now that such a relationship would never be one based on emotions. It would instead be one based more on convenience and have a far more transactive nature. He would provide her with the benefits of his status and power, while she would give him anything he demanded in return.

These were just some of all the considerations Meira had swimming around in her head as she looked at Lord Thayne, who looked back at her. She had truly been waiting for this moment, to see what she would feel when she finally saw him again. Would she feel an overwhelming sense of longing? Want to jump into his arms? Meira had heard many stories from others about their relationships and how they felt about their partners, and Meira genuinely wasn’t sure what she wanted to do.

However, as she looked at him, she felt only a sense of relief that he was indeed the same person she’d always known, as well as a deep sense of gratitude. In fact, more than any other feeling, Meira felt immense gratitude, as if she owed a debt she would never be able to repay.

After a few moments of standing there, he finally spoke:

“Hey Meira, it’s been a while. From your perspective more than mine, I’d imagine.”

Meira felt a bit awkward, being forced out of her thoughts as she answered politely, welcoming Lord Thayne back to the Order. After some small talk, when he invited her in, she naturally accepted.

From there... things went surprisingly well. They had a nice conversation, and Meira even got the chance to have Lord Thayne try some of her tea, which he, to her delight, enjoyed.

The two talked for a long time, Meira feeling the same sense of safety and calm as usual when interacting with him. More now than ever, seeing as a lot of her nervousness from interacting with Lord Thayne was no longer there.

Conversation flowed, and Meira wasn’t sure she’d ever talked this much about herself with Lord Thayne before. She proudly shared some of her better moments and was incredibly happy when he praised and approved of how she’d handled things in the World Wonder.

Meira naturally also asked Lord Thayne about his own exploits and was genuinely curious about what he’d been up to and the adventures he’d undertaken. He was as impressive as always, having fought several B-grades and interacted with Primordials and other top gods, as if it were second nature.

She felt it a bit odd when he suddenly asked her about the Lord of the Hunt, and Meira was a little surprised when she learned that it was actually Artemis. Meira wasn’t entirely sure what Lord Thayne meant when he said she and the image of the god had gotten close during the Challenge Dungeon... but she definitely understood fully after he proceeded to give a long-winded explanation of sorts.

Meira could only listen, trying to take everything in at once as her head was swimming with all the information he’d just dumped on her. If any other mortal had ever told Meira he was in a relationship with a Godqueen, she would have checked him for curses or signs of mental magic causing delusion, but for Lord Thayne, she could at least imagine it.

Not to say she didn’t find it hard to comprehend. Especially not as it became clear, this was indeed a serious relationship. From Meira’s understanding – and put in a context she could better understand - it sounded like the Godqueen had gained the position of official wife, meaning any others would at most be concubines.

Though it didn’t sound like Lord Thayne planned on having any concubines. At least not now.

Meira sat silently and took everything in, and she quickly understood the meaning behind his words... and she wasn’t quite sure how to feel about it. It was evidently a rejection of the feelings Meira had clearly shown in the past, which made her feel a little awkward.

Never once had she expected any kind of reciprocity from Lord Thayne to be more than making her one of many concubines or mistresses, but it seemed that Lord Thayne had taken her misguided crush very seriously. He had been very considerate of Meira’s feelings and even pretty gently turned her down.

She also felt awkward because she’d finally fully realized her own feelings.

When Lord Thayne had mentioned he was in a serious relationship, Meira hadn’t felt heartbreak or anything else like that. Instead, her first thought had been that she hoped it would make Lord Thayne happy.

Master had indeed been right all along. Meira hadn’t truly known the difference between gratitude and love, but now she did, which is why her response was indeed a genuine one.

“Congratulations, you two sound like a good match.”

Yet, despite saying this, Meira also knew that if he’d instead said that the Godqueen had agreed to make Meira a mistress, she would also have instantly agreed and had a feeling she wouldn’t have regretted that decision either. Emotions were complicated like that... but hearing the rejection, Meira decided that her childish pursuit of Lord Thayne was over.

He would always be her benefactor and someone she owed more than she felt she could ever repay. In a way, perhaps she did love him, but it wasn’t the kind of love that could have ever led to a healthy relationship of equals, meaning it wasn’t the kind of relationship Lord Thayne would want.

Yeah... the more Meira thought about it, the more a Godqueen seemed like a more suitable match for Lord Thayne. Perhaps others thought a god would automatically be way out of a mortal’s league, but Meira admittedly had, and would always have, an unrealistically high evaluation of Lord Thayne.

And even if she wouldn’t serve by his bedside as a partner, she was determined to continue to grow and improve herself to at least one day repay a fraction of all that she owed him.

--

Jake looked closely at Meira, trying to see if she truly meant what she said. The more he looked, the more confident he became that she had indeed been genuine, even if there was a faint trace of resignation behind her eyes.

However, even that seemed to disappear quickly as the high elf continued smiling, prompting Jake to speak.

“Thanks,” he said, not entirely sure what more to say than that.

“Please do allow me to reassure Lord Thayne that you don’t need to be considerate of me when it comes to your personal life,” Meira said as she bowed her head. “I have come to realize that my selfish desire to pursue you was flawed from the very beginning and not healthy in the slightest.”

Jake was surprised again at just how blunt Meira was being as she continued.

“I was lost and had nothing, but you gave me a Path and a future,” Meira said with a smile. “For that, I shall be eternally grateful, and I’ll continue to serve Lord Thayne in any capacity he allows me to, even if it happens to be from afar.”

“You really don’t have to,” Jake said, raising his hands.

Meira smiled at him. “But I want to... and weren’t you the one who taught me to do what I want?”

Jake was momentarily lost for words, not having a ready response to that one.

“Of course, I do want to clarify that if Lord Thayne does want more from me, I’m more than willing as long as his wife agrees,” Meira continued. “Just be aware that I realize I’ll never be able to fully view myself as your equal, but that to me, Lord Thayne will always be my Lord.”

“A bit early to throw that w-word around...” Jake muttered, not going to verbally address the rest of what she said, as he was already too mentally busy processing it all.

This talk definitely wasn’t going as Jake had expected, but somehow both better and worse than he would have hoped. Meira fully accepted Jake’s rejection and wasn’t heartbroken or anything; in fact, she seemed more determined than ever.

“I’ll be more careful with my phrasing,” Meira bowed.

Jake nodded slowly. “Also, Artemis and I being together is still a secret.”

“I understand,” the elf nodded. “I assumed as much after such a detail wasn’t included in the official declaration of friendship.”

“Alright, good, just wanted to make sure,” Jake said, feeling at least a little reassured. “Want to keep it under wraps for now.”

The two of them got quiet as the mood in the living room had admittedly gotten a little awkward due to the heavy conversation they’d just gone through. After a few seconds, Meira finally chuckled.

“You know, maybe I should entertain some of the courting attempts I’ve received,” Meira said. “There are even a few sons of council members from the Altmar Empire among them.”

“Just don’t ever come to me for advice regarding anything like that,” Jake said, on board with lightening the mood.

“Why not? Lord Thayne successfully courted a Godqueen as a C-grade. I see no better person to ask,” Meira joked back.

“I feel like she courted me at least as much as I courted her... actually, I’m not even sure I would call what happened proper courtship,” Jake muttered. “Anyway, the point is, don’t ask me.”

“Noted,” Meira bowed in confirmation.

Jake was about to say more when his Order of the Malefic Viper token reacted. He wondered who it could be, at first assuming it to be the Sword Saint or one of his other Nevermore party members, but instead, it was a recent topic of conversation.

“Let me just take this,” Jake said quickly to Meira as he used the token to telepathically respond. “So, gotten yourself a token and my contact information already, huh? Surprised you ever bothered calling.”

“The Malefic One modified and improved all the internal formations of his Order, meaning I can’t teleport around without it being instantly noticed. Even if I could, I wouldn’t be able to enter your residence without being allowed entrance first, seeing as the Malefic One has truly gone all-out with the formation covering your place,” Artemis responded. “I just wanted to tell you that I’m done with preliminary meetings and have some time to stop by for a very brief visit... assuming you’re done with your meeting.”

“We spoke, and things are cleared up,” Jake said.

“Great, in that case, there’s no issue with me stopping by?”

Jake briefly looked at Meira. “Would it be alright if Artemis comes by now?”

Meira looked confused for a moment as she responded. “This is Lord Thayne’s home. I don’t believe I have a say.”

He took that as a yes and gave the positive to Artemis. Using the token, he allowed her entrance, and a few seconds later, the aura of a Godqueen descended upon the living room.

Meira was quick to her feet and stood ready when the god appeared.

Artemis took a moment and threw Jake a smile before looking at Meira.

“This one humbly greets the Mistress of the Hunt,” the elf bowed deeply.

“Chosen of Duskleaf,” Artemis nodded in acknowledgment before glancing at Jake again and throwing him a telepathic message.

“I take it she knows?”

“Yep,” Jake confirmed.

“And?”

“As I said, all cleared up.”

Artemis looked at Meira again. “It’s a pleasure to meet you... Miss Dawnleaf, was it?”

“That’s correct,” the high elf bowed again. “And the honor is all mine.”

The Godqueen observed the C-grade a little longer as Meira stood there, giving Artemis a bright smile in response. The two elves looked at each other for a few moments before Artemis nodded.

“Alright. I’ll have to head back now,” the Godqueen said before quickly turning to Jake, who was still sitting down. Before he could even stand up, she leaned in and gave him a kiss before whispering in his ear. “See you later.”

With those words, she was gone, leaving behind a very confused Jake, and it didn’t help that Meira stood there with a look of understanding on her face, as if that sequence of events made perfect sense.

Tftc'ers getting cocky. Typing out the words and still getting first. Deon Sanders high stepping past people.

Thank you for the chapter Edit: "The two walked for a long time" - weren't they in the lounge room drinking tea and talking?

Dylan Crimmel

Lol. Some "marking my territory" stuff? Lord of the Hunt might be more accurate than I thought

Unwillingmainer

I'm glad Meira has grown and got some more understanding of relationships and how they work. I guess the Test of Character and 50 years would really help. She still want to serve him and sees herself under Jake, but more as a friend or trusted subordinate rather than wife or concubine. Plus, now she and Artemis can conspire to mess with Jake.

joel southard

Thank you for the chapter

Michael Fannon

Now that is interesting. Artemis is being pushed to grow by Meira and sees her as a rival. Very interesting.

Invictus Red

Did Artemis just drop her metaphorical nuts on the table? 😂

Jana

A healthy not-quite-rejection, an emotional sound response and a measured making-things-clear visit? Might be the most unrealistic thing that happened yet - nevertheless I’m very happy with it. No need for Drama.

Michael Fannon

So anyone else think that Meira is either going to help Jake with his next primal ritual or will even be the subject of it? She's probably better at formations and rituals than Jake is at the moment.

Fdrugc

Tftc I don't get what Jake is confused about.

Sogala

Go Meira! Very nice chapter. Thank you. Edit says: I am really happy for Meira and that she could grow and learn so much. I am also very happy about Artemis staking her claim. And of course Jake being Jake 😁

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter

Tom C

“Of course, I do want to clarify that if Lord Thayne does want more from me, I’m more than willing as long as his wife agrees,”” Gross. Hopefully Jake disregards this completely. TFTC!

Ben Cox

Ah finally some good old fashioned not understanding any social situations he's involved in, a classic. Tyftc

DirePants

I swear women have a secret language that indecipherable to men. Because wtf was that about?

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: "something she could *bare* recognize." should be "barely" "The two *walked* for a long time," should be "talked"

RnR_ RnR

Healthy relationships FOR THE WIN. Artemis getting a little possessive at the end gives her a sliver of humanity and personality. Im sure as a powerful godqueen she is internally kicking herself for such thoughts and actions. Being possessive and maybe even jealous? Im here for it! How Carmen and irin will be is gonna be tricky. But good gor meira to accept her love for him wasnt THAT kind of love. That cushioned version of savior syndrome is not healthy at all.

Posiden 300

Well once again he cant say he won't in the future with eternity ahead of him.

Matthew

She really meant brief 😂.

Hayden Leech

Did Meira just get the green light?

Cajun Terror

There was a telepathic conversation there between atry and Maria. Will we get to know about it? Who knows

Cory S.

Suggested edit: “It would instead be one based more on convenience and have a far more transactive nature.” “transactive” should be transactional

Devillelouch

This was an odd chapter. I get the feeling Artemis is up to something but we will see.

Georgia Guy-Williams

Well Villy wasted no time setting security system close to max. I wonder if those formations have different settings and he just modified them... Or if they were set in advance and just required activation. Otherwise fast formation work of the snake.

Cyranosaurus

Meira has taken a serious jump over the last decades. Can’t wait to see her path continue to expand. She is a really cool character. TFTC!!

oak

That was Artemis marking her territory.

Tyler S.

Arty is great and the fact Mira now has so much knowledge with relationships shes able the see the power play. Bravo

Colby Whiting

Not gonna lie kind of refreshing to see Meira come full circle instead of being turned into the mistress. It’s clearly hinted that she’s still not apposed to the idea but now she’s her own her person and can even joke. Love to see the fantastic character development zog tyftc!

Tyler S.

Just seemed like a female power play. Like a Lioness showing ownership of her partner

Jessy D

TFTC!

Arnold Grobler

I think it would be interesting for Meira to be involved with all the free slaves on earth

TyranT-Rex

I like how well Meira took this. Was worried things would be weird because i like her character. I do wonder what's gonna happen with Irin though.

Tyler S.

Fastest way of course is if you just copy past a long tftc mssg

A. B. Edwards

I have to say, I love how Villy has evolved from best god drinking friend to near obsessive best friend/uncle/senpai who will do anything to make sure Jake is safe, within reason of course. I think the little stint in the Void really made him a bit paranoid.

Kaladorph

She definitely needs to be a regular side character. I can't imagine her being in a party withJake, but the occasional chapter on her would be great. Honestly it'd be cool if he found someone to write her into a spin off. Lol

LemonPerson

I kinda see the end part as Artemis being happy with Jakes decision and overall outcome of the conversation. The kiss and the "See you later" is a sort of thank you and reward

Namorat

become something she could bare recognize. - barely

Sorrow

Honestly, I'm glad it worked out the way it did. But to me it also feels a bit bittersweet because I'm so used to the MC having a massive harem. But I definitely like the way this turned out.

Namorat

more transactive nature - transactional perhaps?

Georgia Guy-Williams

Better paranoid than not. He's learnt that from the past. I like this side of Villy too. I was reading up on vipers the other day and how they look after the young until first shed. I wonder when that first shed point will be for Jake.

Orod

Now how will the succubus react 🤔 Theirs is purely transactional in a sense. Jake gets pleasure and she gets levels lol

Rewdan

Well done Meria and don’t let Arty get in your way. If you decide you want him get him.

Corvid

Artemis, godqueen of the pantheon of life and mistress of the hunt, dropped in just to drop a flag on jake in front of a C grade. Is that what the kids call rizz. Also, very satisfying character growth for Meira.

Jul Silver

I'm so glad Meira has developed so she can see how unhealthy a relationship with Jake would be. Nice growth. And it is just as it is suppose to be that Artemis and Media understand her visit and Jake doesn't. Lol.

Dave

She will be happy to be a concubine and a liaison for him at the order. She mentioned she would be happy to share him with 100’s of others so I don’t think there will be a problem.

brjenness

squeeze pretty much called out meira's exact thought process yesterday.

brjenness

I felt that was a bit of a red flag she threw right in his face. rushing in to confirm that he wasn't rushing 40 Randy's out of his house

Christian Sullivan

I went from "Oh god don't make me cry" from her getting rejected to laughing at Jake's mind melting at the thought of her "serving" him and his "wife". Poor Jake. XD

Justin

Did... did artemis just mark her territory at the end? To show up do that just to leave again 30 seconds later.

Strato Junon

Agreed. Felt really out of place too after the character growth in this chapter.

mitchell kaiser

I love Artemis marking her territory. Great chapter!

Phil Ritter

I honestly believe this is the best outcome for Meira. Living in a relationship where one party always feels a power imbalance won’t lead to true happiness imo. I want her to be happy and find someone who will give her all the attention she deserves something I doubt Jake ever would do focused on advancement at all times like he is

Phil Ritter

And maybe also a declaration of herself as the first wife not willing to back down in front of potential challengers

nathan

I’ll I can think of is Jake getting caught with his succubus saying I’m only helping her level haha

Jaciel Arnulfo Maldonado

I always thought artemis was human, if her and Jake have a kid, would it be a half elf? Or would jakes bloodline even allow that? He was supposed to have the first natural b grade human no?

Matthew Smith

Lucky son of a bitch with his possessive godqueen girlfriend.

Phil Ritter

I can’t tell you guys how happy I am with that development. To me Meira was always more like the little sister archetype that’s to be protected instead of a potential partner. Sure her development did her really good but I still think she deserves better than Jake. Jake doesn’t seem to be an attentive partner which doesn’t matter to Artemis since she does perceive time differently but to another mortal I’d probably feel like neglect. I wonder if he will stop his casual relationships with Irin and Carmen tho I could see arguments for both sides and I honestly don’t think it would affect his relationship with Artemis much but stopping would show his sincerity towards Artemis

atome 4 000

was there a telepatic message Jake wasn't privy too, or was this just a mystical understanding between 2 women ?

Blake N.

More checking to see if Meira was a threat, seeing she felt no emotions, then feeling comfortable enough to give a kiss

Steve Shelden

The marking of territory would have been less obvious if she’d just straight up peed on him. Hilarious. I love it. Is Artemis stopping by to see Irin next?

WhiteLeeopard

Is Jake still using the black token or was it upgraded to dark green after the chosen ceremony? Small detail, but has been bugging me

Mikesch

Pretty sure half elf and whatever race Jake ends up to be. Some kind of human variance. I dont think the bloodline has any say in this matter. If it would not allow traits from the partner in their Babys, all would be little Jakes and the multiverse would be doomed. The System would not allow this

khielira

Jake is pretty much relationship blind. Sublet just goes over his head. He needs plain language.

Carl Never

Well I was hoping meira would win Jake over. I guess if art lets her live there forever she can show up and talk anytime they are home. I suppose this is ok makes sense for Jake. But I woulda picked meira guess I'll send in my courting offer

Carl Never

It's still black he can retest but as the chosen and villy working on his house personally he found it would be more of a pain to get the dark green

Daniel Hamilton

she and the image of the god had gotten Edit to he and the image of the god

Carl Never

Art just wanted to look at everyone see if anyone was lying or upset maybe Jake needed a kiss or meira needed glared at. Meira would have done the same lol

David Hall

It was option two(kinda) from my previous comment after all. I like this though, the shift to gratitude was really needed. I'm really interested in her Power set and Path. Obviously very into gardening and formations, but what's the meat and potatoes of her build. (This is primarily because I'm very disappointed in jake not cultivating his poisons/toxic food stuffs. He might as well sell that sun core since he'll never use or need it)

Victory Holcomb

His conversation with Irin will be an easy one as they both were on the same page regarding what was happing. Similarly with Carmen. He will just say he got his dick stuck in a pot, so no more honey from Carmen.

Jordan

Lol hilarious way to wrap up that conversation. Well done, looking forward to whatever’s next!

Eden

In the end, basis for meira to matter regardless is godhood. If she cant show the gumption to ger there was just gonna be a casual fling thing that ultimatly hurts jake anyways if he got serious about her as well

Keion

I just feel like Villy has the three three sisters of the lagoon a wife in a mysterious rock Jake can open up a lil it’s the multi verse if mer mer reached god hood Jake could have some mistresses he’s gana be a big figure and everyone is trying to get on the train

Ty Cooper

Artemis marking her territory. Lol The interaction with Irin will be funny. Irin is totally going to hit on Artemis and suggest group entertainment.

ButterflEye

So anyone want to bet on someone making a “so u like elves”joke

InfernoDroid

I don't know if Zog even looks at his comments anymore, but thank you Zog. Thank you for not taking the lazy route and having her still obsessed with Jake, thank you for letting her be a person and grow and realize what she felt was gratitude and not love. Thank you for not treating her like an object

SmokeJam

Tbh, I'm with Jake there. Those women are confusing. But I like the way the conversation was clear and wrapped up, nice to see Meira moving on, eventhough I suspect we won't see much of her anymore after this.

SmokeJam

You never know when you need to eat a sun. Or a core. Appetizer for a fixed palate

Austin Barton

Everyone is worried about meira and irin but all I want to know is if Carmen will be okay with being a side piece or if Jake will drop her too. I wanted their relationship to evolve slowly until they both became gods. And as much as I like Artemis Carmen is still best girl.

Lemonsqueezy

I think that the two "rocks" are like tombstone of his dead wife and kid. I think their deaths is what caused Villas to lose his mind and go on a killing spree before secluding himself.

Lemonsqueezy

Well Irin will never know that Jake and Artemis are in a relationship. Jake cannot tell Irin because Irin will have to tell her patron. So it is going to be a lot more awkward because Jake will have to reject her and she cannot know why.

Rewdan

I think she’ll be like so you can have mistresses and outrageously flirt with Jake

Xien

😂😂😂…That’s right Arty … lift a leg and lay down that scent… let em know he’s taken and that you have no problems embedding that status with them bodily….. #donedem Poor Jake has no clue… he just been scent marked

Lemonsqueezy

So Artemis came to mark territory and size up Meira. Once it was established that Meira knew of the relationship, Artemis knew she wasn't going to have a problem with Meira.

JW Saxby

Yeeeeeeeah, that ending left me just as confused as Jake lmao did the two elves have a quick telepathic conversation as well just to confirm between themselves that things were actually all good or was that a marking territory thing for Artemis or did Artemis literally just do the jealous driveby gf thing lmao Tftc Zogarth! 🍻

ABTelford

Waaay too much mental dialogue from Mira telling us what we already knew in great detail. I think it needs to be condensed to 3 paragraphs max, then the rest can come out in the conversation. Once the conversation started the chapter was great!

Naotsugu97

Pretty certain it’s been written quite explicitly that Carmen in no way wants an official relationship. Casual friends with benefits is her expectation.

Jason Hardman

TYFTC! I'm wondering if the gathering of the ladies in Jake's life will grow to include Artemis. I think that'd be fun if they can agree to not be overly deferential. Small typo: Meira wasn’t entirely sure what Lord Thayne meant when he said she and the image of the god had gotten close during the Challenge Dungeon -> when he said he and the image of the god... (fixed an autocorrect mess up)

Naotsugu97

So glad to see Meira state that she recognized that it would not have been a healthy relationship. A healthy relationship is made up two people who respect each other and view each other as equals. Recognizing each other’s differences and strengths and supporting each other. My .02. Thanks Zogarth!

TeeyTeey

Artemis is jealous a little bit

Loststar7

As usual. Women having a full conversation in front of a guy without using words or him understanding. TFTC.

Ty Cooper

Marking her territory. I do believe Artemis is going to respect Jake even more if he chooses a monogamous relationship even when given the choice of having mistresses.

Ty Cooper

I like how Meira believes that he as a C-grade is equal to a Godqueen.

brjenness

significance of Artemis using meira's name? future scene: Jake returns home to a frustrated meira who has spent her day chasing around an annoying rodent that only says "where jake?"

JohnSnowden

You have saved our lives, we are eternally grateful

Colin

Every path not only includes growths of power, but also personal. Tyftc PS: status on dusk leaf and danger noodle bets?

Red

This Artemis just show up to pee on Jake?

Connor

Thanks for the chapter

Daryl

I'd be surprised if she becomes irrelevant. She's got a connection to the Altmar Empire, which I'm sure Jake has an interest in, plus more alchemical knowledge than most in Jake's grade. I'd love to see her help with another origin energy experiment.

WhiteLeeopard

I think his house has always been set to the max. It's why during the Yip war Jake's friends in the order were taken to his house where they would be safe...even from pissed off god's who would witness Jake denounce his patron before all the multiverse.

CT

Viper being Master to Duskleaf and Jake being Lord Thayne to Meira. I cannot wait until Jake borrows materials from Meira and completely forgets to restock/return it.

Assault1217

I think besides the Marking of Jake, Artemis initially calling her Chosen of Duskleaf to then Ms Dawnleaf is a sign of recognition. I think the main thing is acknowledgment that Mira cares about Jake not just for his status but as a person

Thenais

dual cultivation partner ≠ concubine team irin is still alive !

Tristan

Lol poor Jake

Jan

The Altmar Empire and Meira’s connection to them has been emphasized one too many times these last chapters. I think, there soon will be an Altmar Empire Arc that will feature Meira as a side gig and that will shine more light on her position as Duskleafs Chosen and probably on Duskleaf himself

Dan

Lmfao, poor Jake is still so clueless. Artemis just had to be sure that Meira understands the situation and isn't trying to steal her man.

Daniel Golding

A little weird. Artemis should have stayed for tea. I mean, it would have been the sort of poisonous evil snake-god tea that Jake and Miera like, but still - manners?

Daniel Golding

Eh, Miera is his house manager. I'm guessing that restocking his lab is actually one of her job duties. Maybe an important one.

Daniel Golding

Its a sign of respect to Jake's friends, I think. gods calling mortals by name is a big deal. OTOH, she's the Chosen of a major god - a god superior to Artemis by a good bit. She's an ambassador. Its just good practice to be nice to Duskleaf's Chosen.

John Durrett

tyftc. Ok now I really want to repeat what someone commented last chapter. Jake. You in Danger Girl! "Movie: Ghost".

Drew G

It’ll probably have to do with crafting something given what the Empire is know for and what they’ve given Jake so far.

John Durrett

Whether it be by Jake's hand or Artemis's, it will be established in all circles that Artemis reigns supreme among the females.

jobe matula

damn man what happened !? and why does meira know and not me... wth is going on !? 😂

John Durrett

Kindly disagree. I see so many put out their interpretations on how things ought to be according to their world views and convictions. "What we already knew in great detail". <-- Its not known until Zog says it is so". I'm glad that Zog literally spells out what his intended characters are thinking. I don't always agree with Zog's choices but that's also what I love about Zog - he sticks to his own compass despite the many Patreon comments demanding, calling, pushing things to be one and not another.

Tristan Lewis

Ah, they are going to force him into a harem lmao

John Durrett

Securing her position with him while accepting a certain level of armory between Jake and his prior intimacies - is very Godly of her. ;)

MrEM4N

I guess it was an elf thing? Time for Iris to come along and start tbe party. I wonder how many levels she'll get for initiating an orgy with two chosen and a godqueen.

Lesley Holmes

Thank you for the ongoing story. Really wish you read your post before putting it out there though. 😶

MrBooniecap

Making sure the territory was marked. ;)

Grant Anderson

I wondered how this chapter would be handled! Thanks Z

John Durrett

Appologies to second post. I've read comments to end now and honestly I hope its not a pissing contest, who's dick is bigger and marking of territories. Those evoke a lack of growth, maturity and self respect. Possessive natures are immature natures. That is not the same as saying protective natures. You can be secure in your relationship to your partner and not be threatened by a single attractive persons attempt to get your mates attention. Protection is about putting yourself between harm and your loved one. Not pissing on them in front of others. Play it the other way, if roles reversed I'm confident that many would say such a move of possessiveness from a male towards a female would be misogynistic and treating her like an object. Individuals who are secure in themselves and their partners are not possessive, as there is NO perceived threat to the relationship. If there Is possessiveness then trust in either themselves or their partner is entirely suspect - its not there. And that is downright unhealthy.

brjenness

too heavy. didn't read. should have just said,"that was a red flag from Artemis. reverse roles and someone with purple hair and a nose ring would be trying to cancel jake." the image of a god marking her territory is funny though.

The Sleeping Forest

Jake totally getting a lot more than he’ll bargain for tonight, I mean come on, Artemis said it best “Miss Dawnleaf” confirming her status change and also next line the high elf bowed. We might find the tower vacant for this evening.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

brjenness

not a artemis hater, but it would be nice to get a feel for how she reacts to people who aren't primordials or friends of jake's that will probably end up pretty close to primordial strength. i'm thinking someone at the order offends her and she figuratively or literally rips their head off. and we can follow that up with some powerful God coming after her for it and villy shows he has her back. that's just me wanting to get to the two of them eating popcorn making fun of jake

brjenness

last thought... I promise.. we would all probably be more interesting characters if we knew we were images in a dungeon.

A Flashy BR

Lol thank you for the chapter

Marcus Ruth

Ty4c I have never been one to comment or express my opinions on the story as I just view myself as here for the ride but I think this Artemis stuff is a little forced in drawn out imo 😅 at this point I think Artemis may actually have more unique dialogs then some never more party members and that was 300 chapters and she's only been around for 70-100? The whole leaning into them it feels uncomfortably unnatural

Jaxsen MacKay

Loving Artemis. I understand that at some point they will have to seperate when he returns but would love if they signed a pact that allowed her to watch him similar to Villy

TwoMoreYears

Jake: what the hell just happened Sword Saint: why is Sylphie better at this than you?

Danny Bagley

Finally someone says it out loud. Jake's vibe this whole arc is so off too, like too logical in ways his character hasn't been previously. The interactions feel rigid and overly formal somehow? Idk how to put it into words but something has been off this whole arc IMHO

Namorat

Wasn't she a bit too unbothered by a godqueen in the room? Did she spend enough time around Jake to be like the SS and such?

Aviel

edit: walked to talked

Chloe

Mark that territory. Tyftc

Dani

While Im not unhappy with this development, it definitely makes Meira as a character less interesting in my eyes. Simply the fact that she debated dating other people, while at the same time acknowledging that she would drop everything and jump into a relationship with Jake kind of bothers me.

ItsFin

Did it bother you whe the virdent witches did it for the viper?

Wen L.

To me, Meira gives off Hinata energy, but glad Zogarth didn't go down that route

Jacob Kraus

I am actually very much enjoying the interplay here. There was a lot in character development that was missing for Meira that we didn't get to see. And Zog basically just condensed it into 2 chapters. I don't think this has been drawn out at all. He could have gone into more detail, but kept it brief and also allowed Artemis to show how much she trusts Jake. I also don't think it's unreasonable for her to want to meet the people who've played such pivotal roles in Jake's post-system life. Meira has played a large role in bringing out Jake's "nurturer" side. Each person in Jake's life that he has allowed to revolve around him has affected him in different ways that I perceive as positive. I find it totally natural that Artemis wants to meet them.

SmokeJam

A c-grade trying to steal a man from a god. Nah man, no shot that was "marking territory" but the opposite. That was permission to do as she pleases as long as Jake is fine with it.

SmokeJam

Why would she need to mark territory in front of a c-grade girl. Artemis is a god. No shot someone like Meira even dares to think of cheating him out. I understand it as quite the opposite. Permission to try her best as long as Jake is fine with it.
