“So, remember kids, nothing happened on the way here, and it was a smooth trip,” the Malefic Viper said to Jake and the other C-grades. “Of course, as mortals, the void still takes a toll, so you may be a little out of it for a few days, but that’s just totally normal void-related nausea. We clear?”

Jake and his fellow C-grades nodded, making the Primordial smile and nod before turning to Artemis. “You go ahead and finish the trip, then.”

Artemis nodded as she went to join Jake and the others. “As the Malefic One said, we’ll teleport as if we were indeed just arriving at the Order straight from the Pantheon of Life. Our appearance will be relatively brief, but it will be a somewhat public teleportation circle that will allow witnesses to see we’ve arrived.”

“Ree?” Sylphie asked.

“No, don’t purposefully aim to draw attention,” Artemis shut down the hawk’s idea. “As I said, we’ll only appear briefly, after which we’ll split up and deal with our individual ordeals. Dina and I shall head to meet with other officials from the Order. Jake will go deal with a personal matter, while the swordsman shall take you and the Golden Forest King elsewhere until Jake reaches out.”

The part about the Sword Saint effectively being the ward of the two monsters for a little while was something they’d agreed upon earlier. All three of them planned on returning to Earth, so it was just easier for them to hang out until Jake had time.

With a plan set, the Primordial bid them goodbye before Artemis took them all to a teleportation circle that wasn’t actually that far away. Seeing as the Malefic Viper controlled all the formations within his Order, he’d easily been able to teleport them about without anyone noticing, but it was clear several gods detected when Artemis initiated the teleport to the circle within the Order’s territory.

Instantly, as the six of them appeared on the large teleportation circle, Jake felt the attention of several gods upon them. The circle had been cleared out in advance, expectant of their arrival, meaning there weren’t that many people around.

The teleportation platform was placed slightly elevated, just up a few steps. Below the steps, several officials wearing cloaks bearing the motif of the Order waited, having likely been there for some time, considering the substantial travel delays.

When they saw movement, all of them sprang into action and hurried up the platform, where they greeted Jake and the others. Artemis gave them all a look before teleporting away to meet with other deities, as a Godqueen naturally wouldn’t deal with lowly mortal officials.

That was for poor Dina to handle.

She was swarmed, news of her appointment having naturally reached the Order long ago. A few people also tried to talk to Jake and the other three, but they quickly backed off once it was clear they had no interest, allowing them to escape the area safely fairly quickly.

Jake, Sylphie, the Sword Saint, and the Forest King headed toward another nearby teleportation hub where they would split up once more. The three of them planned on going shopping to bring high-tier materials back to Earth to help others on their Path.

Sylphie naturally wanted to help out her parents and the Sword Saint, his clan. As for the King... we’ll he’d decided to expand his method of ruling to also include the carrot a little, intending to bring natural treasures to show that following him could also result in good things happening.

As for Jake, he’d already confirmed the person he wanted to have a talk with was back at his residence. Unsurprisingly, considering she lived there within her large tower that Jake admittedly did want to see the interior of.

“Good luck,” the Sword Saint said before they split up at the teleportation hub. “No matter how you choose to handle things, I hope it will result in the most happiness created for all.”

“Let’s hope things do end well,” Jake sighed, ignoring the slightly confused look from Sylphie as he really didn’t want to explain to her the complicated relationship he was hoping to finally unravel and properly define.

The King seemed to know but didn’t seem to care much. Jake didn’t even know how much the Unique Lifeform knew about himself and Artemis, as he had lived with them in the Pantheon of Life for a good while and had seen them interact several times, even if Artemis did make sure to turn their more intimate moments private.

He had a feeling that even if the Unique Lifeform knew the details, he wouldn’t bother mentioning it or even care in the slightest what Jake was up to romantically. At most, if he truly did know, he’d only bother to bring it up to get in a dig at Jake during their usual bickering.

The others all soon departed, leaving just Jake remaining. With his token in hand, he teleported back to his residence within the Order of the Malefic Viper. Appearing in a place that had been his home as much as Haven since the system arrived, Jake instantly noticed that the place was spotless and that, obviously, someone had tidied things up. Jake tended to be pretty good at remembering how things looked, and he was very sure that the rug had been moved slightly, and the coffee table hadn’t been in the exact same place last time as it was now.

Very few people had free access to Jake’s residence, so Jake had a good idea who had stopped by once in a while. Releasing a Pulse of Perception, Jake felt it sweep throughout the subspace, including Meira’s tower. He didn’t even need to look inside to know she was there.

Sighing, Jake prepared himself as he went toward the front door to go see her, but before he could even reach it, movement entered the range of his sphere. At a pretty respectable speed, he saw Meira flying over, landing just outside the door he was about to open.

He hesitated for a moment before just deciding to rip off the band-aid and get things over with. Meira, who was just about to knock on the door, looked surprised as Jake opened it, her hand halfway raised as the door swung open.

Looking at Meira, Jake wouldn’t say she’d physically changed a lot since the last time he saw her. The only real difference was that she had obviously become more comfortable wearing fancier clothes, as evidenced by the rather ornate white dress she wore. Then again, perhaps she’d just accepted that as the Chosen of Duskleaf, it was only normal for her to wear proper equipment, and proper equipment tended to also look quite nice, especially the sort made for casters where there was less consideration for form over function.

However, that wasn’t to say the elf hadn’t changed. She had decades of development behind her since they last met, and Jake instantly noticed. Her entire demeanor had shifted, no longer conveying the impression of someone defenseless and lacking confidence. Instead, she gave off a comfortable feeling while still radiating competence, and even a little dependability. Compared to the Meira Jake had first met, he wouldn’t even have been confident considering them as the same person, even if they looked identical.

Meira’s level had also soared, having successfully stepped into late-tier C-grade.

[High Elf – lvl 308]

As he evaluated her, he noticed her gaze doing the same. He had naturally hidden his mask, but besides that, Jake was wearing his normal equipment as he still sucked at putting any anything more casual when in safe areas.

Breaking the silence, Jake was the first to speak as he smiled. “Hey Meira, it’s been a while. From your perspective more than mine, I’d imagine.”

Meira looked at him and smiled awkwardly in return. “It really has been, and I’m glad to see Lord Thayne has comfortably returned to the Order of the Malefic One.”

Her tone was the usual respectful one, but it seemed slightly less inherently subservient than before. Jake guessed Duskleaf had spent a lot of time helping Meira not to automatically regard herself as lesser than the opposing party whenever speaking with others.

“Could have been smoother,” Jake said casually with a shrug. “You know how the void is; always a real chore to go through.”

“I guess it can be nauseating,” Meira agreed with a nod. “Is Lord Thayne feeling okay? Master contacted me once you left the Pantheon of Life, but it took far longer for you to arrive at the Order than he predicted.”

“Some of the others weren’t feeling too good, and we decided to only fully announce our arrival once they were better,” Jake explained, technically not lying while not telling the entire truth either. While he didn’t want to hide things, Jake wasn’t sure if Villy planned on having Duskleaf know what had happened, and if Meira knew, so would her Patron. She was a proper Chosen and not a heretic like Jake, after all.

“Oh, I see,” Meira accepted Jake’s explanation at face value, even if he got the feeling she knew that couldn’t be the full story. “In either case, welcome back. I hope it’s fine that I took the liberty of tidying up once in a while whenever I had time.”

“It’s all good,” Jake said, only realizing now that they were still just standing at the door. “Where are my manners? Come on in and make yourself comfortable. You already know the place, so it shouldn’t be too hard.”

“I thank Lord Thayne for the hospitality.” Meira bowed slightly before entering the house she’d lived in not even that long ago. At least not by multiversal standards.

After letting her in, Jake naturally shut the door as the two went to the living room. Without even saying anything, Meira went and made some tea, something she’d always done when she used to live there and they had guests over. Jake didn’t say anything as the two of them soon sat on the couch, facing each other with only the coffee table between them.

Taking a sip of the tea, Jake’s eyebrows shot up. “This is pretty damn good... and am I sensing a little whiff of hemotoxin in there?”

Meira smiled as she also drank. “I’m glad Lord Thayne likes my brew. I’ve found that creating my own tea is a good way to practice my alchemy, as one has to be very careful, or the taste can easily turn horrendous.”

“Sounds like a great hobby,” Jake said, genuinely enjoying her craft. “Did you also practice tea-making when in Nevermore?”

“Some,” Meira nodded. “I sold quite a lot on Minaga’s City Floor. It tended to get great evaluations and thus great prices, allowing me not to be the last person in my party to finish the floor.”

“You still had to do Minaga’s City Floor despite not having the Leaderboards?” Jake asked with exasperation.

“From my understanding, we had it easier,” Meira explained. “But yes. We also did the Challenge Dungeons. Even if they didn’t give any points, the rewards offered were still excellent.”

“Man, you’re making me all nostalgic,” Jake smiled and leaned back. “Anyway, I am curious. How was your trip to Nevermore? I heard you went with people from the Altmar Empire.”

“It was good,” Meira nodded. “Our party leader was a veteran who had been stuck in D-grade for a long time before evolving, making her quite powerful for her level. The one I spoke to most was a mage from the new universe who...”

Meira continued to explain her adventures in Nevermore and the people she’d experienced it with. They’d done fewer floors than Jake and company, but spent a lot more time on several of them just to grind levels from fighting the monsters available there. It was also clear that the experience had really differed from Jake’s in other ways.

While they had done Challenge Dungeons, it had only been some of them, and not even all at the same time. Moreover, as one didn’t need to have consistent teams in the non-Leaderboards version of Nevermore, they sometimes had stand-ins from the Altmar Empire if another person was busy doing a Challenge Dungeon.

It was all very interesting, and from the sounds of it, she’d gotten quite close to a lot of people from the Altmar Empire. Meira also sprinkled in several questions herself, asking primarily about Jake’s time at the Pantheon of Life.

The conversation ended up taking several hours, with Meira going through quite a few tea leaves, as Jake happily sampled all her most successful creations. Throughout their talks, they managed to avoid certain subjects and primarily discussed events and their personal experiences.

Jake wouldn’t even call this beating around the bush or ignoring the elephant in the room. In fact, he found himself incredibly surprised at how easily the conversation flowed. Before, getting Meira to share her own opinions was like pulling out teeth, and her joking around or even throwing in a faintly sarcastic line would have been utterly impossible.

It was a nice change of pace that Jake greatly appreciated, and while Meira was still a bit awkward at times, this was a significant improvement. Jake even felt an odd sense of pride when he felt just how much stronger Meira’s aura had grown, both showing her gain in power and demeanor.

Alas, eventually, Jake did want to touch on the main reason why he’d wanted to speak with Meira. Luckily, he got a rather natural segue into the topic when they began talking about the recent declaration of friendship between the Order of the Malefic Viper and the Pantheon of Life, alongside the two representatives from the faction Jake had traveled back with.

“Yeah, I think Dina is gonna do a good job, even if she was obviously chosen due to her existing connection to me,” Jake said. “As for Artemis... did you hear about any of your party members mentioning the Lord of the Hunt in the Colosseum of Mortals?”

“Only mentioned, none managed to actually fight the champions,” Meira answered.

“Well, the Lord of the Hunt was an image of Artemis,” Jake explained. “And, well, during the Challenge Dungeon, her image and I kind of got close after it had its full memories restored.”

“Oh?” Meira asked, looking genuinely curious.

Jake decided not to try to hide anything as he went on a bit of a rant.

“A recording of this interaction between the Lord of the Hunt and me made its way back to Artemis, and I saw the real her at Nevermore before going back, though we didn’t have any time to talk. When I went to the Pantheon of Life, the two of us finally had a proper sit-down to talk about everything, and part of the reason I wanted to go there in the first place was to talk to her. The Malefic Viper had even given me a treasure that allowed her to reach Godqueen. Anyway, we talked and now we’re kind of... together. As in, officially together, and part of the explanation for that declaration of friendship is because of that. I would say it’s pretty serious and not just a fling, so out of respect to her, I need to clean up certain parts of my personal life. Okay, she did say she would give some leeway, but I don’t really want to do that, as it feels wrong, especially because it sounds like she isn’t interested in making use of this leeway herself. Things are definitely still a bit complicated, but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...”

Admittedly, Jake should perhaps have rehearsed what he planned on saying a little instead of just vomiting everything out, but once he got started, he felt like he had to finish his rant. He at least managed not to be outright presumptuous and “reject” Meira, though he felt like he made his stance pretty clear.

Jake felt pretty damn nervous as he looked at Meira for a reaction. Her face was neutral for a few moments as she digested Jake’s slightly incoherent ramblings before she surprised Jake.

Meira smiled as she looked straight at him and spoke in a tone that sounded genuine: “Congratulations, you two sound like a good match.”

Woo meira. Glad she's over that crush. Lovely to see the character develop well. Tyfc

Posiden 300

So the sucubus who changed her path is screwed lol or is it because its her path its ok??? Honestly not a fan of this but whatever.

Fdrugc

Tftc I'm happy for Meira also shouldn't there have been a ilusion of the space pineapple?

Kevin Lindberg

First charter i had to wait for! Ran through everything here i like a week! Thanks for an amazing series!

Phallusar

The moment the will they won't they tension drains and a character fades into an NPC.

Abdulaziz ALRumaih

but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...” I think that there should not be a “not”

tom husband

I’d imagine she still gets more than enough records and levels from being his HR rep to continue to progress at least somewhat

Sogala

I am very glad he commits to 1 relationship only...but this thing with Meira feels kind of anticlimactic somehow. Probably because it was build-up for so long. Thank you for the chapter

Tyler S.

I remember mine and the wall of dread that awaits as you then have to climb yourself through day by day

Nimuie

is it just me or does the "not" in "... I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...”" not make sense based on the paragraph? it should be "... I’m gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...” based on "...Okay, she did say she would give some leeway, but I don’t really want to do that, as it feels wrong, especially..." or am I not getting this?

Tftc, excited to see Meira's Pov

Cameron Taylor

The only good thing about this is that Irin and Meira both deserve better than Jake anyway. In fact... Meira has plenty of status for Irin...

Eric Rasputin

Jake's acting like an insecure little kid. Never understood why he even felt this way about Meira when all of their previous interactions never suggested any romantic tension.

Xander

TFTC :) Suggested edits: "sucked at putting *any* anything more casual" should be "on" "I’m *not* gonna commit to that one relationship and *not* have any other ones..." One of these is an extra word otherwise this sentence has the exact opposite meaning than has previously been presented as Jakes attitude.

Luboš Hemala

I hope someone will bonk him on the head.

Cameron Taylor

Please no. If we get a Meira POV I don't want to be one where Jake even gets mentioned.

WantedByGhosts

Thanks for the chapter! I'm a little confused on this line 'I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...” I feel like there's an extra "not"? But thanks for the chapter again! :)

Hanson

I think this has too many nots in it. Right now it implies that Jake will have other relationships, and means the opposite of 'I'm going to commit to this relationship and not have any others.' "Things are definitely still a bit complicated, but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...”

Frederik

zog should write a book about meiras nevermore journey i bet it would sell like crazy people just cant get enough of it XD

Jason

I’m waiting in line at a government office. I guarantee I was more excited to see the chapter than you ;)

Almer Reyhan

Is it just me or this chapter is shorter?

Biggy smalls

Ngl, felt like a filler chapter to me? Hopefully we get back to progressing in some fashion tomorrow?

CT

Unless it is intentionally written as Jake didn't notice and Meira thinks there is still a chance this looks like he WILL have other relationships which doesn't fit his thoughts. "I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...”"

Andyr98

Well him and meira don't really fit anyways and irin is really jusy a gold digger and she is proud of it so it was clear that neither of them would have been good partners only one you would have fit is Carmen but it was made clear they where nothing more then just friends with benefits

Andyr98

I know how it may feel like this is all of a sudden or anticlimactic with mieras reaction but remember to her she was gone for 50 years all the main party changed alot even Jake did during nevermore so im glad she matured alot from the girl who was freed from slavery and had a crush on her savior to the confidence of a chosen

Jordan

That’s not true, it was well established that Meira had a crush on Jake and he was understandably not sure how she’d take the news, even if we all knew she’d be fine.

Cory S.

TFTC! One question. “Things are definitely still a bit complicated, but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...”” I thought Jake was telling Meira that he was committed to his relationship with Artemis and didn’t want their to be anything left unsaid between him and Meira but this quote makes it sound like Jake isn’t going to be monogamous. Am I reading that wrong? Reads like he is saying he isn’t going to commit to that one relationship with Artemis and also not have any other relationships. I am confused by this sentence.

Cyranosaurus

Duskleaf said he thought this situation was best for Meira and that makes me think she needs a few relationships first and so does Jake. Thinking S maybe A grade if there is ever a Jake and Meira…..she will either save his life in some world wonder or his entire party in some fight or world wonder I think. It just feels like too many conversations between the Viper and Duskleqf hint that Duskleqf has skills in this match making area so I think he has a plan that even Jake can’t predict and eventually Meira will succeed and Duskleqf will win another bet vs the Viper🤣

Eric

Yeah same, I think he just means that he can’t commit to that relationship if he still has other superficiel things going on in the background

Sylphie

Ree!

Roy

Thanks for the chapter Zogarth 🙏 Looking forward to this week's happenings

Potential edit issue for clarity and grammar Things are definitely still a bit complicated, but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...” Things are definitely still a bit complicated. TYFTC! Couple of edit suggestions: As for the King... we’ll he’d decided to expand his method of ruling to also include the carrot a little, -> well he'd decided he still sucked at putting any anything more casual when in safe areas. -> putting on anything more casual There's also the double negative in how he stated his relationship plans, that may or may not have been intended, but others have already highlighted that.

Dave

Tftc

MrCynical

I mean, kinda? Jake never had any romantic feelings towards Meira, especially with his very firm beliefs in power dynamics. And while he's been ok with casual like Carmen and Irin he at least knew Meira couldn't be that. And even in Meira PoV segments her feelings towards Jake were always incredibly complex to the point even she couldn't untangle them at the time.

Alex

I am gonna. The not means Jake is refusing to be a one lady kinda guy

James

Thank you for the chapter

DirePants

Never an easy conversation to have 😮‍💨… I have a similar one soon. It appears Meira took it well though. Hopefully I’ll have the same outcome. Welcome back everyone!

Jordan

Lol no, he meant Meira needs to move on because being hung up on Jake is bad for her. How would we think Duskleaf is a matchmaker? Duskleaf hates being around most people.

Seamus Harley

Why is Jake unsure if the King knows about him and Artemis? In chapter 1181 the King calls Artemis Jakes mate and Artemis basically confirms it. I am confused.

dash w

Thanks for the chappy

SPSTAN

Too short

brjenness

Jake and meira will both be relieved to have the talk over, then Artemis will pop in and after taking one look at meira and say, "you can add her to the list"

Don Peligro

It would actually be kind of funny to leave it as is and have Meira briefly get confused about whether Jake is making a pass at her.

Daniel

lol, Meira is so jealous.

WhiteLeeopard

I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion. This is once again when I'm very confused with how levels work. Jake is extraordinary. He has become 1 in the all time leaderboards. Has 7 mythic skills. Killed the hardest Prima in all the 93rd universe event. Killed El Hakan. Been the center of a godly war. Killed thousands of B grades. Created new/old species. Meira is a fully ordinary person who has received assistance from Duskleaf and the Altmar empire but done nothing new or impressive throughout her time in C. She had nothing special to begin with and any other random person they had picked could do the same . And apparently the difference between an extraordinary person and an ordinary person in the multiverse is 20 levels?

LongMickeyRicky

Well 20 levels between jake and meira is different between say 20 levels between 2 other characters when u account for records and skills and all that. 20 levels isnt just a flat divider unless two people have the same class and everything. Jake gains more stats per level i think and the quality of said levels are greatly higher from jake doing all that stuff he does. I take levels as a ballpark benchmark of a character’s strength, with the upgrading of classes, understanding of concepts and amalgamation of records being the actual decider of strength

deus vault

I’m not gonna commit to" that one relationship and not have any other ones...” Not sure what he means by that, because this states he's gonna have other relationships. Maybe you wanted to say I'm not gonna commit to" this relationship and then have any other ones" Because the other one is him basically saying he's still okay with flings?

ItWasIDIO!!

Great it went well

WhiteLeeopard

I very much hope the Meira arc in the story is over. She has nothing to add, and I'm not reading this book for harem complications. I enjoy reading romance books and even harem, but prefer each book stays in its lane, only sprinkling some small bits from other themes.

ABTelford

Sigh…Zogarth really is fond of leaving us hanging. 😏. Nice chapter…but couldn’t Author have given us one more paragraph? 🙂‍↔️

Phil Ritter

That one confuses me too. Either there is a typo in there somewhere or he doesn’t mean second relationship as in romantic. Because if he means what we think was written there he’d be contradicting himself in the same paragraph. I’m sure it’s gonna get cleared up by tomorrow what exactly he wanted to say

brjenness

tomorrow will start with a surprised Jake saying, "that's it?" meira responds with, "yes. I will admit i used to have a crush on you, but I realized we aren't a good match...you aren't very good at alchemy"

Ira White

Jake you're in danger lmao 🤣 😂

Shai182

TFTC! Well, Zog is going to do Zog, we are just for the fun ride

echo.mov

TYFTC<3

Takoda Heitz

Hey Zog, I’m not sure if this is a plan you already have. I think it would be really cool to get benchmarks for some of the other characters as they reach peak C-Grade. Like I’m curious what a peak C-Grade verdant which is capable of when she goes all out. I also was wondering if we are going to hear from Neil soon seeing as he should be approaching the level of his Legacy’s original holder, Kallox. Thanks for the chapter!

brjenness

for you meira is a weakling people...I know it's a common trope, but it is true that the talented that have been "special" their entire lives are often not as successful as someone only slightly less talented that had to fight and scrap early in life

brjenness

avengers assemble when Jake is told haven is under attack by monsters. on their way they are ambushed again, but this time oras and villy are ready and it is obvious they just wanted to delay Jake when the heroes finally arrive, they discover miranda has already wiped out the monsters without even interrupting the paperwork she was doing through. as a bonus conspiracy guy starts digging into a new theory and is crucial going forward.

Michael Fannon

I figured it out. Meira already knew because Duskleaf told her. And Meria is fine with it because she can go after Artemis as a way to get Jake. Chosen of Duskleaf being one of the few mortals that will be going around the Godqueen ambassador afterall, and with Jake on Earth, someone will have to hang out with Artemis and Dina. Probably will end up inviting them to the "women around Jake club". Duskleaf is a good teacher afterall and he was taught by Villy. Makes sense that after a few decades Meira has become cunning and devious to get what she wants. Jake is going to be in trouble. Flustered, socially awkward Jake is great.

Michael Fannon

Meira has been learning from Duskleaf. Makes sense she is at least that cunning.

Sushi

Not sure if Meira is completely giving up or if she now has the emotional maturity to be happy for him and comfortable with herself while still being open if things change for Jake in the future.

Gavin Wayne Pitcher

The word 'sounded' carrying a lot of weight there huh, lol

Colby Whiting

I feel like Jake's intuition would have given away if she was deceiving him though

Dragon

Wait I am a bit confused, is he having multiple relationships or just Artemis?

TKOva

Meira is going to go HAM, this is going to be her impetus to push herself even harder.

Pekka Kohonen

I think the author botched the logic there. Double (or triple) negatives are always tricky linguistically ;-).

Thenais

I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones... ?

brjenness

did anyone have the talk with Dina about how people will want to get close to her because of Jake? poor bobo. he'll probably develop a personality like venom from all the stress. "can I eat him"

Anonymous

Is Jake gonna get better equipment?

Fall’s Kiss🍂

Yea I’m trying to understand if he is saying that he is open to flings or not. Well I guess we will find out tomorrow.

Thenais

"you don't want to not vote for john kerry" kind of situation :p

Lemonsqueezy

I think she is still rather mentally weak, but is quickly growing out of it. I think Jake will always be a weakness for her because of their master-slave relationship in the beginning. Meira will always see Jake as her owner, even if it is only a subconscious thing. You can see it in the fact that she still calls him Lord Thayne even though he insists she just call him Jake.

Rodney

It's a good thing he's committed in all that but I hate that he has to give up Carmen because I like their dynamic I was sure once they reached godhood they would have a kid together oh well that's what fanfiction is for I guess lol

Daniel Hamilton

Does this mean he’s gonna lose the succubus? They are fun together, and I am curious to what it’s gonna happen at the wedding

The 49th Khan

Dina is the granddaughter of the number 2 God of one of the largest factions in the multiverse. She's probably used to stuff like that.

Cody K

The King definitely knows about Jake and Artemis because he outright called Jake her "mate" when talking to her. Unless Jake is just that dense. Wouldn't be that surprising.

Xien

… wahhh wannhhh… all that angst for nutten… bring in contestant number 2 pls lets see how the succubus handles it

Ty Cooper

Tftc Glad this went fine. Curious how it will go with Irin. I still want her to use an origin powered demon lord heart. If she became one of his creations it would probably be better if they were not a friends with benefits situation. I hope Meira truly feels happy for Jake and keeps rocking her path.

brjenness

funny to me: irin cuts Jake off cold turkey out of fear/respect for Artemis and Jake starts relentlessly flirting with her whenever he gets a chance as payback for her earlier aggression.

NovaZero

Shouldn't. That relationship isn't fixed to begin with and she's likely to be his envoy to the 4th Hell

Kevin Watson

our boy is settling down. romantically only, i’m not sure it’s possible for him to settle down in general

NovaZero

Why are people saying he has to give up on all his casual relationships? Didn't his talk with Artemis explicitly put those in the pre-approved list? Irin and Carmen are in that column and as painful as it might be for Meira a lot of that has been because he's dodged that for years.

Daniel

He is going through internal conflict on that one. Artemis is chill with it, but he doesn’t really feel like it’s the right thing to do. Honestly, it feels like Jake never got over his girl friend that cheated on him in college.

Showbagz

So odds on Jake having helped Meira break the ice for her? She was trying to find a way to tell HIM she was in a relationship? At the end of rhe day, it's been minimum of 50+ yrs from when Meira saw Jake last, more if she has done time dilation with duskleaf. Long time to hold a torch. We also know a person whose path would definitely be improved by becoming a Chosens partner.....come on Irin! Totally hoodwink Jake and leave him stuttering haha

JW Saxby

Tftc!

Avery Howell

Hey, Zog, I've always heard/said the phrase as "like pulling teeth." "Like pulling out teeth" is clunky and a bit jarring.

Michael Fannon

Or she already knew because Duskleaf told her and was able to mentally prepare herself.

Asking the important questions here. I'm ready for a few chapters of trying Minaga's new labyrinth.

David Luper

Actually, I think that this is an interesting story-line, especially given the life that Jake is going to lead from here on out. He is going to have to figure out how to balance his concepts of love and monogamy with the reality of extended, possibly billions of years of life, long absences from each other, pressure for him to "provide" his Bloodline from literally everyone, a general cultural acceptance for polygamy, especially for people in his position, etc. Not saying that he will change his character, morals, and ethical positions, but the pressure will be there and would be interesting for his perspective to evolve based on what he is swimming in every day.

Michael Fannon

Wouldn't give up yet. Still think it is going to be Umbra or Meira in the end though. Artemis just won't be able to keep up with Jake and will probably end things herself to not hurt Jake's path or something. Meira is going to surpass Jake in certain areas of alchemy and compliment him perfectly while Umbra is already a peak being and has a definite interest in Jake. Would not come as a surprise she is the stalking type.

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Thanks for the chappie!

I'd like to be spoon fed little slices of the kings life as we move forward. particularly his leadership style and how it changes after having seen iggy and natty do two favors for Jake. i'm assuming his path will revolve around leadership and ruling more then combat going forward. maybe, i'm wrong and he received a system quest to buy some shit for his peeps, but he has to be drooling over the vastness of the pantheon of life and even the order and what that would mean if he could build something like either of those. to attract the kind of people to build a faction like that, he has to invest and provide opportunity to those that follow him. just curious what is rattling around that wooden head of his.

brjenness

oh, and he can also be a recruiter of beasts worthy of jakofication.

Jake has the most powerful bloodline of all: plot armor

Dor Hanner

It seems that among two powerful people, it's more like polyamory. when there's a power imbalance, it's polygamy or polyandry.

Dave Mccoll

Jake should smash. He’s the apex predator after all.

Personally, zogarth please don’t mess up Carmen’s or irin’s relations to Jake. This could end up really good or really bad. (I believe in you!)

John Durrett

Hmmm. Perhaps that's the intended feeling? :) Getting teeth pulled is not smooth sailing by any means.

John Durrett

That would be really sweet if she is in a relationship with someone and was concerned how it would affect her relationship with Jake. I'm almost hopeful that she is so Jake can pull a Villy on them and bring them in for questioning. Big brother love.

John Durrett

"Things are definitely still a bit complicated, but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...” I don't see that settling down. He has an official top dog main squeeze, but its not monogamous.

John Durrett

Sorry I don't get what John Kerry has to do with anything in this, certainly not voting

John Durrett

Is that a Whoopie quote from Ghost? lol. I'm all for it. You in Danger Girl!

Bocsánat

Now do Irin. Do her!!

Asterrahl

--Things are definitely still a bit complicated, but one thing’s for sure, I’m not gonna commit to that one relationship and not have any other ones...”-- Is this double negative intended, or accidental?

Yea... This is why I normally stick to haremlit. I get that he has problems with this, but in truth, I think him getting with Artemis is either a death flag, a sign to show the series may end and zogarth doesnt want to leave a emotional cliff hanger in regards to love interests(which could be 7 books away with how zogarth writes. Lol), zogarth intents for the harem dynamic but is waiting for the social conditioning of Jake being in the multiverse sink in as well as his past relationship with the cheating w**** to have enough time to work through his system as wounds like that leave scars and those scars are imprints on our mind that shape us in some way. Obviously things Jake perceives as a betrayal ticks him off as shown earlier in the series. This could point to him having a lack of trust as well as not wanting to go against his principle of even with permission it is still amoral because my principal from re-system say so. Honestly I hope for the harem angle or thruple relationship. Artemis as wife, miera as a concubine, and Erin on the side as the mistress as she is a succubus and from what I gathered they don't seem to be bound to any one but are sexually carnivorous.

Bacon Sir

Strongly disagree. I have yet to read any haremlit where the harem elements don’t come across as wish fulfilment garbage, generally with no actual understanding of human nature or relationship dynamics.

Greg Alverson

Irin will be an interesting one because of her race and how they advance and her path. Him outright cutting her off could cripple her advance and i dont see Jake wanting to do that.

Asher Mack

hard disagree - meeting him gave her records and strengthened her path to the point that it never would have otherwise, and jake doesnt need to keep sleeping with her to make it stay that way. Just the fact they had any moments like that is more than enough to get the stone rolling, and it's not like he owes her anything anyway
