Jake had approached the fight with an abundance of caution, far more so than usual. True Dragons held high esteem in his mind, and he wanted to show one the proper respect he believed they deserved.

His senses also let him know that Yrelstromoz was no doubt an incredibly powerful creature. All of that resulted in Jake not being too offensive and holding himself back despite being able to take things up a notch easily. With his boosting skill running on full power right from the beginning, Jake was roughly at his strongest already, yet he had been cautious and not displayed his full power to avoid committing too much to any attack.

However, Yrelstromoz’s entire demeanor and approach to the fight so far pissed Jake off. His initial attack had indeed been mostly nullified in a very impressive fashion, but everything after that had just been a disappointment.

Just starting with how she looked was stupid beyond belief. Yrelstromoz was wearing a set of gaudy armor. She was a True Dragon. A monster. Monsters and equipment didn’t really mesh, seeing as they couldn’t get stats from equipment, and based on how easily his arrows pierced through it, this wasn’t some special armor specifically made for monsters.

No, it was more like a fashion statement. The armor wasn’t “real” but just there for show. It offered little more function than a nice dress, and the only defensive properties her armor carried came from the energy she infused into it. Just summoning a constant set of barriers would have had roughly the same effect.

Some monsters could have armor with an actual effect – such as Scarlett’s dress of snakeskin – but that armor was essentially part of their bodies and integrated using the Polymorph skill. Yrelstromoz evidently didn’t have anything like that.

Then there was her sword. Again, monsters using weapons could be a thing, but only if the weapon was summoned using a skill or specifically created by the monster. Her current sword was neither and was essentially just a large crystal with a handle attached. A sword that she even wasted time, effort, and resources infusing with energy to make it look cooler.

All of that wasn’t even mentioning how she actually fought. She had no fucking idea how to use a sword; that much was clear. Even if she did know, it didn’t fit her powers at all and would still be incredibly stupid. From everything Jake knew about her, she was effectively a caster, yet she was “having fun” swinging her big crystal sword around, thinking she was playing with some stupid C-grade who tried to bite off more than they could chew.

True, Jake had held back, but for her to still underestimate him like this and believe he wasn’t even worth taking halfway seriously… yeah, Jake was offended to say the least.

So, yeah, he would gladly show her the result of underestimating him.

Yrelstromoz didn’t even notice as Jake’s demeanor changed. Neither did she seem to find it odd when he put his bow away and a katar appeared in both hands.

She wanted a melee fight? Fine, Jake could have a melee fight with her if she so desired. If she didn’t want to take him seriously and use her actual strengths, Jake would respond in kind, with the big difference being that he was more than competent in both ranged and melee combat.

The dragon, who seemingly was still just waiting for Jake to burn out, wasn’t at all ready when Jake stopped retreating and firing potshots, but instead stepped down, only to appear right in front of her.

Her instinctive response was to release an explosion of light, but Jake’s passive barrier from Arcane Awakening, as well as the scales hidden beneath his armor, nullified any damage it could do, not allowing it to stop his momentum at all.

Jake punched forward, striking Yrelstromoz in the stomach as Eternal Hunger pierced straight through her “armor” and into her flesh. The True Dragon’s eyes opened wide, and she tried to pull back and swing her sword, but Jake had already landed another punch in her raised arm before she had any chance to attack.

In a panic, she turned into a beam of light and flew backward, only to have a katar punch her in the back as Jake had easily predicted where she would dodge to, the dragon’s inexperience in actual combat showing once more.

Groaning, she spun around while swinging her sword, but Jake dodged under it and, using a mana platform beneath his foot for leverage, landed a very satisfying high kick to her jaw, sending her flying upwards.

Still not giving her any time to stabilize, Jake pursued, his two katars a storm of cuts and stabs as he gave her no time to rest. Yrelstromoz tried to fend him off, but the only damage she managed to do was emotional as Jake’s disappointment grew.

Jake couldn’t figure out her thoughts at all as he just kept pummeling her. Did she seriously still think Jake was on the brink of collapse? Didn’t she have the ability to properly assess how much damage she had taken? Perhaps she was just a masochist, actually hoping for the sweet embrace of death?

No matter the case, Jake didn’t let up and tore through the True Dragon, her armor peeled off piece by piece, as it broke apart at its seams. Yrelstromoz tried to fight, swinging her useless sword over and over again in between dodging back.

Her frequent flashes of light did little more than annoy Jake, as he was waiting for her to show more. Finally, after nearly a full minute of Jake absolutely dominating, the arrogant dragon seemed to realize Jake wasn’t slowing down.

Right as he was about to land another hit, her body exploded with light once more, with far higher intensity than before. The flash carried a sense of physicality, forcing Jake back, and just as he was about to continue his assault, he found himself forced to dodge as a powerful beam of light shot straight for his head.

“You… who are you!? What are you!?” Yrelstromoz screamed, her level of energy growing. In the very next moment, the sky was filled with orbs of light, giving Jake a sense of danger from all sides. Through the distorted space caused by her odd explosion of light earlier, Jake saw an angry-looking Yrelstromoz pointing a finger down towards him, her body filled with wounds from Jake’s earlier assault.

As for her question, Jake’s only response was to attack again, not believing she had proven herself worthy of an answer quite yet. More than a thousand beams of light shot at him, forcing Jake to teleport half a dozen times before he got close to Yrelstromoz.

Rather than swing her sword, she raised a palm and summoned a magic circle that exploded with another odd light wave that carried physical force. Jake met it head-on, infusing one katar with destructive arcane mana. He punched into the wave, resulting in a second explosion as the two energies nullified one another, allowing Jake to continue his charge and stab Yrelstromoz in the chest with his second weapon.

He landed yet another stab, but one Yrelstromoz had seemingly predicted as six magic circles appeared – one above, one below, and four to each side – all of them teeming with power.

Not even a blink of an eye later, they all flashed, bathing Jake and Yrelstromoz in light that burned into Jake and once more blinded him. Through his sphere, he saw Yrelstromoz’s hands be enveloped in energy and take the shape of claws as she tried to swipe his face, but seeing as he didn’t really need his eyes, Jake easily responded.

With one katar for each incoming attack, he met the claws and stabbed her through both wrists, stopping the incoming attempts to lacerate his face off. Once more, the dragon was taken by surprise, and it certainly didn’t help when Jake head-butted her straight in the nose, breaking it in the process.

She tore her arms loose and stumbled back, sweeping out a hand as a wave of piercing light forced Jake back and even forced him to block so his face wasn’t hit, resulting in a few small puncture wounds on his arm.

Evidently, she could do some damage when given the chance, but Jake had no desire to give her too many chances as he exploded into action yet again.

The two of them barreled through the skies as Yrelstromoz tried to use her magic time and time again, but no matter what she did, Jake either took minimal damage or none at all, while he, in turn, landed blow after blow.

Due to the high tempo of the fight so far, not much time had actually passed since Jake’s initial opening attack, yet Yrelstromoz looked more than a little haggard by now. Her armor had long been bent and broken all over, the sword had been blown away and was probably still tumbling toward the ground below, and the number of wounds on her body was nearing a hundred.

Meanwhile, Jake only had a few burns and puncture wounds here and there from when she landed a minor claw-swipe or laser. Jake could have taken less damage if he had been willing to be less aggressive, but he had no desire to switch up his current approach.

His anger, born from Yrelstromoz not taking him seriously, had far from subsided. Even if she had now switched away from her stupid sword and melee fighting style, she evidently still wasn’t that serious yet despite the accumulating damage. This only made Jake’s anger persist, and it wasn’t helped by another very annoying discovery.

Despite all the poison he had inflicted, Jake noticed that his Dragonsbane Poison wasn’t having any effect. In fact, even if he had injected so much into her system, Jake could barely feel it, and what he could feel was slowly dispersing on its own.

This naturally made Jake worried his Dragonsbane Poison had somehow been crafted wrong or that she wasn’t a genuine True Dragon, but soon he realized he was mistaken. Dragonsbane Poison was made to counter dragons, and Jake’s variant relied in part on infecting certain aspects of a Dragon’s Soulshape that had to do with mobilizing and moving magic.

In other words, for his Dragonsbane Poison to have any effect, the target needed to have the Soulshape of a dragon. He needed her to actually be a dragon and not just in her humanoid Polymorph form… something Jake still couldn’t fucking understand why she hadn’t entered yet.

Was she just going to lose and die without ever assuming her true form? Was she truly that arrogant and stupid? Jake knew the damage she had taken wasn’t just something surface-level that didn’t actually matter. She had lost a lot of health points, and she couldn’t go on like this for too long before the damage to her physical body would begin to hamper her movements.

Jake really couldn’t understand how the mind of this dragon worked, but if she really didn’t want to enter her true form, fine. She would die. Of course, Jake hoped she would respond non-moronically, so he moved to present her with the choice.

After another brief exchange where Jake naturally dominated the tempo, he created a large opening that he took full advantage of as he went for a lethal blow. Deflecting one of her clawed hands, she was left wide open, an opportunity Jake didn’t miss as he attacked with Piercing Fang.

Jake’s katar stabbed deeply into her body, dealing significant damage. Yrelstromoz tried to push him off, but not before Jake unleashed a Venom Burst using Fangs of the Malefic Viper, resulting in a large explosion of pure poison that ravaged through the True Dragon’s system.

She screamed in pain and once more exploded with magic as an utterly massive beam of pure light erupted from her body. Jake tried to dodge upwards, but a second beam was released instantly before he had time to teleport again, forcing him to block.

This wave also carried the concept of physicality, forcing Jake upwards as it seared his body. Gritting his teeth, Jake infused his body with destructive arcane energy and fought back as he stopped himself from being pushed back while dodging out of the beam to the side.

Free to attack once more, Jake erupted into motion as he shot downwards toward Yrelstromoz, who was momentarily distracted by the large festering wound in her midsection. She saw Jake right before he reached her and was about to respond, but Jake was a split-second faster and activated Primal Gaze.

She froze in body and soul, her magic pausing and her defenses dropping, allowing Jake to reach her. Eternal Hunger mercilessly slammed into her face, penetrating through her cheek and out the back of her neck before Jake’s fist and katar handle impacted her face and sent her flying down towards the planet below.

Not slowing down himself either, Jake had already let go of his katar and put his hand around her face as he sped up their descent. While descending, his hand began to glow dark green as he activated Touch of the Malefic Viper, pumping toxins into the True Dragon’s body as they barreled toward the planet far below, passing through several layers of clouds on the way.

Their descent only sped up further as Jake accelerated, pushing Yrelstromoz down as she struggled in vain to free herself. Before she managed to, they blasted through the final layer of clouds, revealing the ground below mere moments before impact.

Jake smashed Yrelstromoz’s head into the rocky planet like a meteor, causing an impact that could be detected even on the other side of the globe. A gigantic crater formed around them, and the canyons and mountains all around were destroyed as a result, creating a deep bowl-shaped arena for what was to come.

Still grasping her head that had a katar sticking through it, Jake looked down and made eye contact with Yrelstromoz, who stared up at him with the one eye that hadn’t already begun to rot away. Jake was ready to continue his assault and had expected to see a mix of disbelief or maybe even fear in her eyes… but instead he saw a look of recognition.

“You’re the Chosen of the Malefic Viper,” she said with a mouth full of blood, her voice oddly calm and devoid of doubt, making it clear it definitely wasn’t a question, merely a statement of fact.

Jake was about to respond, but he didn’t get the chance as his danger sense warned him. Without hesitation, he shot backward, and just in time as a beam of light descended from the heavens onto Yrelstromoz.

Recalling Eternal Hunger, Jake stood ready as he felt a change from within the beam of light.

“I would apologize for failing to recognize you, but seeing as you attacked me, I think we’re way past that,” Yrelstromoz spoke, her voice growing slightly deeper with every word. “Knowing who you are… fighting you with all of my power would not be a dishonor.”

After a final flash of light, the beam disappeared, revealing a True Dragon standing where it had once been. Her entire body was lined with muted yellow scales that reflected the sunlight, her two wings stretched as if she hadn’t taken this form for a long time, and her aura had reached a new level.

What also immediately struck Jake was the complete lack of wounds in her true form, but as Jake felt the remnant mana emanating from the magic she’d used on herself during the massive light beam, he remembered something else rather important:

The Lumenflight was also known as the Dragonflight with the best healers.

Yrel has a serious case of protagonist syndrome, mixxed it with Young Mistress attitude and produced a toxic mess in need of a reality check.

Sarianne

Thanks for the chapter! Let the real fight begin tomorrow! Just one thing I noticed: this sentence doesn't really flow well: "A sword that she even wasted energy infusing with energy to make it look cooler." Had to read it 3 times to haveit make sense, it would make more sense like this: "A sword that she even wasted energy on, infusing it with energy to make it look cooler." Or make it 2 sentences: "A sword that she was even wasting energy on. Infusing the sword with energy to make it look cooler." Or: "She even wasted energy on the sword to make it look cooler (by infusingit)." "She even infused it with energy to make thesword look cooler. What a waste of energy." 😊 enough options and I'm sure you can come up with one that fits Jake's internal dialogue better still.

Rahsheem Reid

Let the real fight begin. It was getting real boring reading Jake dog walk Yerl.

Rahsheem Reid

It’s kinda weird for Yerl to care about honor or the lack there of to me

Nathan Holliday

Ok I get this fight has been built up and all but for Jake to turn around and struggle now would disappoint me greatly. Let the battle change a bit with her in the true dragon form but Jake still clearly needs to be on top. If anything the challenge from this battle should be one of endurance where the question is if he can do enough damage quickly enough to overcome her inate power.

SunStar

So an actually competent fighter could use this fight as a textbook of how to make Jake take himself off his game. So many brain dead decisions driven by his ego this chapter.

Tommy

Doom Foot ftw! TFTC!

William Rossi

I wonder when he want want himself recognized. At the moment Jake is the chosen of the Malefic Viper. I mean he got many titles, but this one is the most multiversally recognized. When do you guys think he will announce his bloodline title? He didn’t want people to know yet after nevermore, but is it after this dragon battle? Villy basically said killing a true dragon while in C-grade would equal demigod-status. So by killing the peak level creature in the multiverse, while in a grade below, maybe that is the time to announce to the multiverse everyone that he is a pinnacle creature, or the pinnacle creature because he’s the one that hunts them.

Cory S.

Great chapter, thank you!

C0bra$

Thank u for the story

Mohammed Sheekh

The fight being one sided wouldn't make sense, villy said killing a true dragon at B grade while the challenger is C grade is like a S grade killing a god. Plus she's a healer so she counters jakes poisons. She was just a victim of her ego and that's changed

Rewdan

Jake feeling disrespected by her is hilarious 😆

I Is Patron

Think its more of a shame thing. She thinks Jake is an ant. Imagine the shame of having to use your full power to squish a tiny ant when you are a mighty and powerful dragon. However going full power to take on the chosen of the malefic viper is not so bad

Bobo

Thank you!

Andyr98

But you realize you would only get one chance and with that one chance you would have to get past his instincts and moment of the primal hunter because if you fail the game would be up

Ben Cox

Can't believe it took her getting trashed by a C-grade for let's say five minutes and seeing Touch of the Malefic Viper to figure out who jake was. I also imagine jake is going to remember why fighting Eron was so annoying healers are stupid vitality spammers. Tyftc

Lazy Dragon

I fully expect Friday's chapter to end with "Jake activates Event Horizon" but to mess with us Edit: fixed skill name

David

I hope the dragon being good at healing doesn't translate to this fight dragging on for ages like the elhakan one.

Rewdan

Thanks Zogarth great way to start the week.

David

It was certainly amoozing! Gold star for all those who get the reference!!

Takoda Heitz

I guess I just excepted this fight to take longer than that fight as this opponent is stronger.

Lynderyn

I believe he’ll switch to soul damaging attacks as soul damage is harder to heal immediately

Bruno Alencar

In fact, now I discovered the full scope of this story randomly while making my breakfast. (The neurotar are responsible for both the attack on Jake, as well as being IYP sponsors of yesteryear, as well as being responsible for the death of the evil viper's wife. In fact, from the beginning, they were not extinct by their own primordial child, but hid and remain hidden in the shadows to this day, planning how to dethrone the primordials. That's why they wanted Jake, for him to bring his species back to its origin. I don't even doubt that the insects that "super Skynet" hates so much are one of the neurotar's failed plans, that's why he hates them so much.)

Elinar Godly

"...the only damage she managed to do was emotional as Jake’s disappointment grew." F ing awesome line!!!!

Gabe Stankiewicz

God DAMN. Him punching his katar into her cheek and out the back of her neck, and then flying her down into the ground with a hand on her face with touch of the malefic viper, god that was so exhilarating to read. Holy shit dude. Thank you for the chapter!!!!

Fyrtue

His class is the Arcane Hunter of Horizon's Edge. Event Horizon is the skill.

jobe matula

I think it's going to be a harder fight than even zogarth thinks loo

Alexandre8901

Thanks for the foreplay fight! Now let the real thing began!

Jayce Sul

I fkn love this

DeAndrea H

Such an awesome chapter. I never grow tired of Arrogant Young Mistresses/Masters getting curb stomped. And I love that Jake is consistently the most chill dude ever unless you hurt his people or disrespect his fights.

AfroMocha

Like this theory, and it holds up logically as well with them being such a logical species hiding and biting their time would make the most amount of sense their creation killing them and making them go extinct. Didn’t really sit well with me as it would have to be something that was a rift that was caused. I still hold that there’s a hidden primordial. I’m guessing this is a primordial that the system allowed or managed to gain power and it was so anathema to the system of the system had to remove it. It became forbidden knowledge. Or maybe even a god that rose up while the viper was in isolation and is at the level of primordial, but there can maybe be physically only be 12. I’d even go as far as say this primordia is gathered up all the loss races. Races of people who were thought to gone extinct died off gods we’re on the brink of death in this primordial was able to stop them passing on. We also have to keep in Mind that there are 12 primordial and seven void gods. 12 and seven are very strong, powerful mathematical, and magical numbers. And all books and medium I’ve consumed that has magic 12 and seven have always been extraordinarily powerful numbers. That all being said everything that is going on now with Jake, his bloodline and the viper Yip of your I think all goes back to the viper’s kid. There is something about the vipers kid bloodline, or maybe a bloodline transcendent mixing first of its kind and this was the cause for the Multiverse rule being enforced of no one messing with bloodlines It all stemmed from the viper, wiping out a third of a universe because someone kidnapped his wife and kid for their bloodlines. And that probably resulted in them dying. Also keep in mind that that kid of the vipers would’ve been the grandchild of nature’s attendant, who arguably has one of the most powerful bloodlines in the entire Multiverse.

Fyrtue

Who's got bets on what skills he upgrades this fight? I'm thinking maybe Pride or Arcane Awakening.

ABTelford

Fantastic chapter. Love it!

Takoda Heitz

Maybe One Step? She may have some attacks that require extra improvements to the skill in order to escape them. Maybe not a rarity upgrade but a flavor text kinda thing.

Khris Kruel

"The only damage she managed to do was emotional" lmao

Jordan

Nice, now this fight can get going! What are the chances the fight actually ends this week 😂! Over/under on more or less chapters than the Ell Hakkan fight?

tigerfishie

Tyftc! Love this so far, can’t wait to see what surprises this fight will have in store.

Smiley Face

It was stated that Jake believed this would be the strongest person he’d fight relative to everyone else, so I’m thinking it will be longer than the orange man fight.

Michael mann

Anyone else seeing the next stage as a bit of a stalemate? Massive DPS vs healer

Wen L.

This fight is going to get annoying if she can constantly heal, Jake needs to attack her soul and negate her innate healing powers. The real fight is about to begin.

Steven L

I hope we dont get another chapter with 80% talking and inner dialog, 10% action (1 move from MC, and 10% description of moves. It will take 30+ chapter just to discribe aĺl of MC's moves. The story is getting predictable.

Cory Smith

No one is making you read. If you are dissatified, wait for the actual book to be published.

Dennis Damenis

Guys I am calling it now. I believe that Jake's Transcendent skill will be his boosting skill. Think about it. It either that or Moment of the Primal Hunter. Moment was deliberately held back and Jake likely isn't at the power levek to safely mess with time like that even in B Grade. I do think he will take that skill further some day but his first Transcendence will be his boosting skill. His Bloodline makes it difficult for any other random skill to be at it's level. It's far too selfish and sees itself as far too superior. This is simply hoe Jake's Bloodline is and why no presence can force him to bend or feel any pressure, not even the absolute highest of Primirdials like the Viper or even Valdemar, which Jake has Records from both. But Arcane Awakening is a boosting skill using his arcane affinity which we know is closely tied to his Origin Energy, or Jake Juice as he calls it. Perhaps it is a lower form Jake can handle right noe because he simply cannot handle all of advanced concepts for the full energy just yet. They are directly tied together though, we kniw that as fact. Jake's arcane affinity ties directly to his Bloodline and that is partially why its already so good compared to most boosting skills. If you look at its rarity though we easily see it has a lot of room to grow. These are the only two skills I see his Bloodline allowing to ascend to Bloodline-level. Literally the absolute highest powers that can ever possibly exist in this multiverse are Transcendences and Bloodlines. Even the System can't fuck with them. Sim-Jake was using his Bloodline even before the System brought supernatural power to his universe which Jake could have done too had he not suppressed his. Eren also used his during medical procedures before the System. Anyway his arcane affinity is what drives his boosting skill and because that is tied to his Bloodline I think it could be the one that goes Transcendent. Plus what other type of skill is JAKE going to ever have that goes Transcendent? Think about it. And we know boosting type skills do have Transcendence variants because the Sword Saint's boosts the hell out of him! Also, I totally called it the Sword Saint was going to expand the hell out of his own Transcendence. I so called that! I cant wait to see how epic it gets. HAHA! This is going to be so badass. Their first fight was the best in the entire series to me. I mean that. And the scene we got of the flashback of how the Sword Saint first Transcendended? It reminded me of the Dao epiphanies in Defiance of the Fall but better. I think that's ehat concepts in this series are? Basically those as the active aspects of what the Dao is in that other series (also one of my favorites) where Records are thr passive elements of the Dao. I think as Jake and the other progress we ste going to see a lot more of that sort of stuff. It is already moving beyond just making stats go up and gaining levels. Have you all noticed? Jake beats people a grade higher than him and so does Zac in Defiance of the Fall. They are collecting types of boosts and weaving sources of power not simply denoted on a Character Sheet as stats and levels as they progress down their Paths that many others simply don't. They just make the numbers go up and while that will always matter, it matters less and less the higher you go. The Viper was gone got Eras and Eras mostly stagnating so people thought in his divine realm but they were wrong. He gained power still. The Daolord sect in this series gains power from outside levels and such too. I see the author more and more taking it that way but in his own style. Defiance of the Fall was all numbers snd levels too at first. Then the efficiency rating on the attributes kicked in and that cannot be seen only felt during a battle. Zac's foes can use skills to see the attribute scores but not the efficiency rating. This is what denotes just how much work Zac is squeezing put of every one of those points. I already see Zogarth doing his own twist on this. I suspect Jake is getting much more bang for his buck with each point in each stat than his character sheet states. He just doesnt know it yet. I am so excited about all of this. And Defiance of the Fall has Zac and other elites having to gain a constitution attuned to their Path if they really want to be an elite. Go back and read that thing Jake has that makes it to where his Arcane affinity is boosted, lets him sustain Arcane Powers Powershot longer, boosts his Arcane magic while other types take a hit, that thing. I cant recall currently the name of that but read it. That sounds exactly like the beginning of Jake gaining Zogarths version of attuned bodies/constitutions. The Sword Saint has thus too, but with seasons/time/rain. This is totally ti he expected that progressing as a true elite requires more than just killing things and making numbers go up. I bet you Jake starts gaining ascended styles to his archery and melee as well. Like Zac's Inexorable and Evolutionary Techniques. Jake has already hinted at wanting both to align further with his Path rather than just he skills on a character sheet. Yes these numbers are big and translate to power, but what also matters is HOW WELL the warrior utilizes each of those points. A person can have a million in every category and lose to someone with maybe 750,000 or whatever in each because they understand their Path better. They brought all of their separate sources of power together into an active closed system versus just being all of these individual things he uses in isolation of each other. I bet they all start connection and compounding off one another like a well engineered machine versus looking like random skills tossed together that only really provide benefits under these circumstances or only apply to this one thing. I bet Jake eventually finds a way to bring his archery, melee, alchemy, Arcane affinity, his movement skill, and all skills really together under a unified umbrella so polished it looks luke the System itself custom designed it for just Jake. His "of the Malific Viper" skills are exactly like this. Notice how they ALL operate like a system made to from that start? Notice how they have been increasingly doing so with each upgrade? I bet you both Jake and the Sword Saint eventually have every last component of their paths they are currently using in isolation of one another to eventually all connect and reinforce each other in a unified way. It has to go this direction or even using the term "Path" makes no sense except it looks cool. That word just means the general direction you are going. The Earthern version, capitalized in this story for a reason, is more than that. Its literally the entire totality of one's very being aimed in unison, all working together and empowering each other like a well oiled machine designed that way from the stary rather than what it is now: semi-random good things Jake just picked here along the way. Right now very little of his skills and such have any thematic or truly elevated tie to his Path of the Primal Hunter. Sure he had an archery skill, but so does every other archer. What makes Jake's archery skill the archery skill of the Primal Hunter? How is HIS One Step the movement skill of the Primal Hunter versus the One Step any rando has? Same ALL his stuff. Watch. I bet you those who ignore this are those who get stuck in bottlenecks and no longer advance. It can happen even to gods. Yip of Yore his a bottleneck and tried using killing Villy as a catalyst to shock his Path into progressing once more. It likely would have worked had he succeeded. Hell, Artemis was stuck at a bottleneck she couldnt seek to break through but the shock of the Records she got from Villy and mostly Jake allowed her to breakthrough once more. See what I mean? Eventually things get more complex than kill more stuff, make number go up. And I am honestly happy for that. This is why series like this one or Defiance of the Fall work so well and others flop. Just killing stuff and making numbers get bigger is too one note and repetitive. There has to be more nuance than that otherwise there is no point in all this emphasis on one's unique Path. Anyone can make numbers go up or kill shit and get Records. Notice how more and more Jake is gaining power outside of feats related to just combat. What he just did with the Gate and all of those concepts, upgrading his Meditation skill, and such? That is what we call a fortuitous encounter, a fated event Jake knew was the opportunity it was and took the plunge. It was stupid risky but it paid off in such a mega satisfactory way! Sake with eating a Desolated planetary core! Nevernore wss full of this stuff too. I am glad for this, otherwise the story would eventually get stale you know?

Elinar Godly

Dude wrote another chapter :D Let me read it now :D Okay, read it. I agree with most. Strong frown for spoiling Defiance of the Fall, havent read it! I think that some of the skills Jake has will ultimately be dropped, absorbed, changed or smth to fit into a unified whole. I agree that such unity is what allows the few to reach the pinacle. I only think that along the way is okay to pick up not quite alligned skills. Skill which later either get adapted or scrubbed with some high level Records techniques. I also think there is merrit to the idea of his boosting skill becoming a transcendant one, down the line. Makes sense. Lastly, Dude I can feel your excitement while typing this :D I mean some words were legible only cause our brains make it possible :D

Oh. Speaking of handy uogrades, what all did Jake end up getting out of swallowing that planet core full of Desolation. That was so hyped up as stupid risky for a C Grade but if he survives it/doesn't get crippled the rewards could be stupid amazing. But... his Palate is fixed now and he has completely absorbed that core by now... Did Zogarth forget? Or is he purposely holding out to reveal just what all effects and benefits Jake got from it? I think it's the second thing because in the vision where he sae Volly eat all the concepts of an entire world, he specifically mentioned hoe he sensed all that was left was Desolation. He mentioned again that a significant part of the Malific Affinity, which is the Viper's custom affinity he produced as a crowning achieving of his path, Jake certainly either now or will have direct and elite access to. It was mentioned as gain how C Grades arent supposed to be able to mess with it at all. When they first saw the Child of Loss, a C Grade being MADE of Desolation effectively, everyone made a big deal out of how insane that is. Like how Zac in Defiance of the Fall can access Chaos at all. Its bonkers and not really supposed to be a thing. But Jake is doing it anyway. I am thinking all of this is leading toward us finding out just as how big a deal of what Jake did with that Core of Desolation is and just how bonkers amazing it ends up being for him. It was hyped so much it makes me think Desolation will be one of the next afflictions Jake adds to his kit. We all know he stacks these. It was the same with Curse Energy if you recall and poison before that. The hunting momentum, and the Arcane affinity charges he builds up during battle as well. He hasnt used that in a long time, actually. He used to land his final big whammy and thing trigger his hunting momentum and arcane affinity charge at once for a final blast of damage to do his foe in. Same with his poisons. He would stack both of those with his Viper skill that lets him amplify and accelerate poison in an infected foe to wreck them. It would burn up all the poison in one flash but also deliver all that damage in one blast. I suspect he is going to devise a variant of that with his Curse Energy he afflicts his foes with and Desolation as well once he adds it to the list. Imagine all of that hitting at once? Holy shit Jake is scary...

Fulminis

Oh thank God, I was getting terrified that he was going to end the fight this chapter

DirePants

lol straight up DBZ fighting 😂 Well looks like the real fight starts now. I still don’t think this will be an especially long fight even if she is the strongest opponent he’s faced as of now. I don’t even think he’ll be forced to use Moment as a last resort. She’s powerful but inexperienced. She may be able to heal even past his dragon bane (I forget all the properties but I’m assuming a dragon specializing in healing would have the ability to heal their biggest weakness) but doing so may cost a lot of energy. The longer the battle takes the more at a disadvantage she’ll be. Eventually his bane- and other poisons, will start to take their toll. She’ll get angrier and make more mistakes, wild attacks, wasting resources. Initially Jake may have some issues. She knows about him obviously. But she doesn’t seem like the diligent type so it may only be surface level stuff. Jake has gotten to interesting upgrades too. Imagine him consuming a piece of her using Palette and refining a bane potion inside his stomach using the new knowledge. That’d be pretty cool. But we may even see some other skills upgrade. But Zog is great at throwing my normally flawless story instincts for a loop 😑 lol either way, glad we’re finally about to watch Jake attempt his “childhood” dream 😂

Anyone else just want to see what Event Horizon does? Any guesses? What if it is some form of true strike? That is my guess. It is an unavoidable attack that will always find its mark and strike true.

JW Saxby

Yeah ngl I thought that this was gonna be a massive let down for a second there lol glad it was just her genuinely being clueless and dumb. (Street Fighter narrator voice) “Now… Fight!” 🤣 Tyftc 🍻

smore

Now we're cooking with gas!

Thariaus

We know what do event horizon, attack always touch the target and attacks that do more damage the further away the target is will always do the maximum possible damage regardless of the distance.

Alejandro Piña

Awesome pummeling so far, let’s see how the fight continues after the power up, also, congrats Zogarth on closing in your new home.

Ty Cooper

Woo! Tomorrow is going to be where the true fight starts. Wonder how the bain will start working now she has taken her real form

frotes

finally moving on from being a punching bag. now to really get the show started!

Wen L.

Yeah, it's not Goku v. Vegeta or Goku v. Frieza level, but maybe one of the lesser battles like with a Ginyu force member

SmokeJam

Sounds like the schoolyard fights some 20 years ago 🤣

brjenness

my head of security told me that an Ezekiel (zeke) Oliver Garth had purchased the estate next to one of mine and the only information he could find on him was that he was an author. I'll be able to send over one of the staff whenever I have a question that can't wait until Monday.

Roy

Thanks Zogarth! Love it when we get to see the ruthless side of Jake

Xander

TFTC :) Guess she wasnt a clone then :D Welcome back everyone Suggested edits: "A sword that she even wasted *energy* infusing with *energy* to make it look cooler" repetition. Tried a bunch of changes andrewording works best. "A sword she pointlessly infused with energy just to make it look cooler." "landed another punch in her *raised armor* before" might just be me but not sure what you mean here. should it be *raised arm*? does this mean the armour is raised in some way? Why would Jake punch her arm and not into her armpit where a dagger can do serious harm and is rarely armoured? "Groaning, she *spun* around while swinging" should be "span" "as her armor was peeled off piece by piece *as it broke*. " labouring the point here, ditch the last part. "wasn’t *actually* a True Dragon, but soon he realized what was *actually* wrong." repetition, Ditch the second

nathan

On the next chapter of primal hunter zogs greatest cliff hanger you’ll learn this has all been a prelude to yrlestromoz killing Jake and becoming the primal hunter haha 😂

NovaZero

You know, I could totally see Jake upgrading a few skills and using Desolation.

Mohammed Sheekh

The palate upgrad will allow jake to absorb concepts, now that he can fully absorb the desolate world core, he can use desolation, it sup to zogsrth if he wants to go that route though

Ryan McCasland

So she tanked a proteon arrow through the skull, 100s of katar wounds, a katar blast with necrotic venom to the stomach, a katar through her face into her neck, a touch to the face while getting slammed into the ground like a comet and shrugged it all off. I think Jake’s in trouble.

NovaZero

Lol. Jake's variant of his arcane affinity containing his disappointment. It enscribes a sort of desolation due to the weight of his disfavour. It has provoking elements that's corrosive to the true soul due to how inadequate the Primal Hunter finds them.

MrBooniecap

Nah, this is just going to be a long drawn out fight. She is a healer, so just gonna have to burn through her mana. Now that’s she’s in dragon form he will get it done with his dragons bane.

Anonymous

is it just me, but do you sometimes want a fight to end like immediately. (like not this fight, but for example, his shot just tears through her head instantly killing her.)

ChRiAn

Why are the light dragons the best healers? I would have thought the nature or life ones would be, have we ever seen light associated with healing up to now?

Tommy

So she is concerned about honor now?

brjenness

I wanted Jake to accidentally one shot something and reverse Leroy jenkins some big plan in nevermore.

Ender419

Hot Damn!! Not that was a hell of an intro for round 1. Let round 2 begin!

Eden

Wqs gonna day wouldnt lifr dragons if thry exist be better healers? But remeberrd that light is also very good a purfiying curses and shit

Eden

I assume its cause light can also cute more shit like curses

beeve

Winner of the most incoherent comment I’ve read here

brjenness

Is anybody else wondering what kind of craziness bowbow will do to win a fight with a true dragon? I expect bloodline shenanigans might be necessary, but there is a lot we don't know about the bow.

Hunter

A character in the new Boruto chapter has the same ability as minaga. No credit to the primal hunter author tho. Out creating kishimoto my friend

Daytripper

Come on bloodline breakthrough!

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Babuui

I'd like to see if his bloodline gets offended by this we lil dragon XD

Johnsmith

After all that build up? No way, it would have been a massive let down

Sergej Fel

I am aware that nobody cares about consistency and powerscaling, not to mention distances... and that each scene is as powerful or as big in the moment as the rule of cool has it be... but damn, as somebody already mentioned, even DBZ is more consistent in its distances and powerscaling.

Carl Never

Remeber when he started with magic on the cloud and he couldnt cast a spell while he operated his bow? Maybe the bow can use jake to run itself and he can dodge, cast, heal

Spencer Miller

I just realized something. Part of why Valdemar’s Transcendance is legendary is because he seems to have had it before the integration, lending it some unknown benefits. … how sure are we that the Sword Saint didn’t get his Transcendance in WW2, well before tapping into it in Yalsten? Edit: after listening to that scene again, it’s clear that he did get it back then. Not sure why thought otherwise. Then what Aeon Clok is trying to get out of the Saint is a realization of whatever the benefit of a pre-system Transcendence is. I would say it was a lack of cost, as the System does not impose costs upon things people during an integration consider a part of themselves, but we’ve seen the Sword Saint take a level… I’m suddenly wondering if the level penalty is a feature, not a cost, of the Transcendance.

David Hall

Yrel goes dragon in part 2 ✔️ the pacing is a bit off for the bulk of the fight to end tomorrow and part 4 to be a clean up, but im enjoying it anyway. I wonder how much of yrels act was real. Having to say ," its okay that o ha e to go all out since your the vipers chosen" is really weak reasoning but if she's been healing the whole time and is sitting at 80% hp then there's a chance she was actually trying who he actually was before deciding to fight. Fun stuff all around.

Hornbach

I think it is fairly consistant so far, do you have a concrete example of something inconsistant?

William Clark

I could see something like his destructive arcane affinity destroying concepts thus "desolating" what it touches

Alex

Valdemar's Transcendence not having a cost* is because it's Passive**, it isn't because he made it before he was integrated into the multiverse***. It's a fundamental constant of his existence, so The System doesn't enforce a cost for using it. We don't know whether The System allows people to make Passive Transcendent skills after they've been integrated - Valdemar is the only person who is believed to have a Passive Transcendent Skill, and it's implied that he made the skill before being integrated. That might be an indication that you NEED to have created a Transcendent Skill before being integrated for it to be a Passive. It could also be a coincidence. *We don't actually know whether or not Valdemar's Transcendent Skill has a cost. Villy suspects it doesn't because Valdemar uses it all the time and it doesn't appear to cost him anything. **Villy believes that Valdemar's Transcendent Skill is Passive because he's always using it. Chances are he's right because he's Villy, but we don't actually know for sure. ***Again, it hasn't been confirmed that Valdemar made his Transcendent skill before being integrated. From what Villy knows, Valdemar always had his Transcendent skill, but he isn't sure when he created it.

Trugath

I just realised Jake is effectively Taiji. Oneness. He produces chaos and order mana, yin and Yang, unstable and stable. I feel this is going to become important. I feel he will later combine his mana into primordial or primal mana..

Death56

I feel like out creating boruto isn't really a achievement it's not exactly high quality

MilkTheShark

Don't remember what rarity his touch is but I'd guess that's getting an upgrade due to the desolation core in his palate. It'll be something about infusing desolation through touch of the malefic viper

Samuel Granderson

Kind of odd to me that dragonsbane poison can be circumvented by taking a human form? And the reason is a change in the soulshape? That seems strange, like is she not still considered a dragon by the system? Is she not still a dragon in her soul? Seems like a weird technicality even if we follow that logic somehow. Would have understood reduction in the poison’s effectiveness if the reason was her lack of dragon form, but to completely cancel it out?

Aaron Tavernier

Could be due to the fact that Jake is still in C Grade and his dragonsbane poison isn't good enough to inflict damage to a B Grade true dragon when using polymorph. There's a lot we haven't been given about how polymorph works for monsters, so Zogarth can always fix this with new info as well.

Kt-x

Thanks for the chapter

The only damage she could land was emotional.... That was golden

Samuel Merrill

Bruh. This reads like a dragon ball z fight. Epic.

I began to complain in my mind that a high kick to the jaw doesn't "do" much, worse, he's throwing his enemy away when his range is very short. But then I remembered Doomfoot. He does have skills in this area.
