Elisa H.

If ur not already doing a black history month movie, I wonder if u would consider doing one. They may be too new but could be 42 or Marshall (in memory of Chadwick Boseman) or hidden figures. If needs to stay older Malcolm x, lean on me, remember the titans. If u want to mix a black cast with romance maybe waiting to exhale or how Stella got her groove back

Bill Bevins

Normally, I would have voted for There's Something About Mary, but since you added Ghost, I had to add that one. Better get the tissues ready.

Eric Greenwood

Something about Mary.. THAT Scene Makes my eyes water..

iamrman82

I haven't seen any of these, so my vote was just random.

ingibingi2000

The problem with black history is it is often really heavy and intense and doing reaction videos is meant to be kinda fun, that said a black romcom would be super appropriate

Two Cents Magoo

Double Feature 💡 The Color Purple + Ghost It works, people! Director / OMG is that ___? Factor / Black History Month / Deep South Setting / Perseverance / Sofia Sofia Sofia!

Mark Finley

Only the lonely doesn't get enough love because people didn't pay attention to a RomCom with a leading man that is overweight. I wouldn't expect it to win any poll, but please check it out eventually. Of the other choices, I hope Ghost wins.

Lynnetta

Ooh. I'm ready for some Swayze. ❤👻

Alexander Fish

The movie Whoopi got an Oscar for and the movie she SHOULD have gotten an Oscar for.

JuneBug_TX

Swaying with Swayze, all he way....Ghost...

Brett Collier

Thank god you didn't pick the notebook...

Tony Williams

I went with Something About Mary because I would MUCH rather watch you laugh your ass off than to see you cry. Either way, I will be watching. Have a great week everybody!!!

Manuel Johnen

It really should be "There's Something about Mary"... just for that ONE scene... :)

Brett Delbridge

Who thinks Ashley should do stand up?

Gaz

Ghost is such a great and interesting movie that sorta combines multiple genres. There are parts that are genuinely horrifying, especially when watching It as a kid. Whoopy Goldberg brings some much needed levity and there's a good old fashioned love story mixed in there too!

Land

This! Waiting for a reactor to watch Crocodile Dundee I+II (such good iconic movies)

Elliot Nesterman

I'm still throwing in my vote for "Moonstruck" before the month is over. It's about love, of course, but most of all about family. Also, it was shot entirely on location in New York, and mostly in my home borough, Brooklyn. Since you mentioned you briefly studied opera, the Met is featured with some prominence in the film. Another opera titbit: one of the supporting actors is Feodor Chaliapin, Jr., son of Feodor Chaliapin, the great Russian basso.

Rebecca Anne

Yes! I loved watching those movies, especially that subway scene. Also makes me think of how much I loved Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile.

Jill Bristol

I would really love to see you do "Mannequin"....it's one of my favorites. :) 💜

Michael Buhl

Whenever people talk about Australian movies they mention Mad Max, Crocodile Dundee, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Gallipoli, Breaker Morant, etc., but they never bring up Bliss. I saw it in college and remember really liking it.

Bill Bevins

Two of the funniest movies featuring African-Americans are The Hollywood Shuffle and I'm Gonna Get You Suckah. They both parodied black exploitation films and stereotypes and were quite good. My favorite movie featuring black actors though is the movie Uptown Saturday Night from the mid 70s. It starred Sidney Portier and Bill Cosby. I know that Cosby turned out to be a bad dude, but this movie is very funny.

Elisa H.

Oh, I'm gonna get you suckah! Fantastic! I also have a bit of a guilty pleasure for Undercover Brother

Bob Criswell

Jill Bristol's suggestion of Mannequin also made me think of "Splash". A really nice RomCom.

Emily Smith

Only the Lonely is another GREAT John Candy film. If you want other John Candy movies that are romantic, check out Splash!

Heather Qualy

Overboard, Overboard, Overboard. I like John Candy, too, and Bill Murray. But after Stripes, which is excellent and has both of them, I’d prefer if we move past them and not get stuck on one specific actor.

Gordon Davis

I throw out Big Trouble in Little China. A classic 80’s film with Kurt Russell from The Thing and Tombstone.

David Crabtree

Recommendations: Dirty Dancing, 40 Year Old Virgin, 10 Things I Hate About You.

Jeramie

You're making it tough with a powerhouse drama and comedy. But definitely Ghost for the Happy ValenBeans feels.

Two Cents Magoo

100 Votes for Moonstruck. "Old man, if you give those dogs another piece of my food, I'm gonna kick you 'til you're dead!"

Mister_JKay (bigmactonight)

Everytime 'Theres Something About Mary' is on a poll, theres always a better movie. Oh well, fingers crossed well get to see Theres something about Mary before the end of Romance Month

iamrman82

Okay, that's not entirely true. I saw There's Something About Mary a long time ago and wasn't too impressed. I haven't seen any of the others though. Out of the choices, Pretty in Pink seems like the one I would enjoy the most.

Edward Olson

People need to stop spoiling these movies by giving her expectations. Just vote.

Edward Olson

You're saying too much about it.

Gio Vidrio

Dude, talking about one character isn’t spoiling anything. Now if I described a section of the plotline, that’s spoiling. In the words of Clairee to Annelle “Lighten up.” Everyone’s just excited.

Elliot Nesterman

"Do you love him, Loretta?" "No." "Good. When you love them they drive you crazy, because they know they can."

Edward Olson

Telling her she's probably going to be crying like in Steel Magnolias is the problem. It gives her an expectation. Mentioning the character is pointless and only serves to make you feel special, "Dude."

Gio Vidrio

You know this is the 2nd time you’ve antagonized one of my comments, and I’m actually over it. Thanks for all you do for Ashleigh’s uploads, but disrespecting me and other patrons will not get you anywhere.

Tim Gilbert

I like There's Something about Mary, but a 1998 movie doesn't seem to fit the MM theme.

Gio Vidrio

Yay Ghost... 👻 Great movie.

Be Kind

That’s a great idea! Parodied films, I don’t think she’d get. No to American History X — just no. Please, I can’t take it. Might be good to take a quick break from the rom-coms for the sake of those who aren’t into them. Coming to America (1988) has a sequel coming to streaming very soon. It’s not my fav, but it’s popular. Beverly Hills Cop (1984) holds up really well. Friday (1995) is still quoted today. 42 (2013) w/Chadwick Boseman is good. I really like Training Day (2001) w/Denzel. It’s not a comedy, but damn! It’s captivating.

Elisa H.

Coming to America and Friday, also really good ideas.

Be Kind

I almost suggested The Color Purple (1985) in another comment. Sooo many ppl in it, and Whoopi is great! It’s heavy though.

Be Kind

I hope she does Crocodile Dundee (1986). That movie was charming and funny. Still quotes to this day too.

Heather Qualy

I was literally rewatching 10 Things I Hate About You 2 days ago. Hadn’t seen it in years, it still holds up! I immediately thought of Ashleigh, but was wondering if it’s too new?

Be Kind

I did stand-up for a bit. It’s thrilling, but you need to be able to write a lot of jokes. Stories suck the air out of the room — great for other mediums, not so much for stand-up. You also need to be okay w/repeating yourself. Once you have a good set, you do it for a year or more, weaving in new jokes here and there but mostly sticking w/the old stuff. If you’re good w/all that and start booking comedy clubs, absolutely wear your wedding ring and let the booker & other comics know you are happily married. Do not joke about fooling around ever, for your own safety. If you’re curious, work up your best set, like 5 min.; find an open mic night; and give it a go. You’ll never know until you try.

Be Kind

Ahhh ... I’m a little sad There’s Something About Mary isn’t next but also happy that Ghost is. Luckily, “Mary” works great as a comedy too if we don’t get to it this month ‘cause we’re running out of month already.

Two Cents Magoo

Indeed, but the payoff is so, so worth it. And the music! "Sister, you been on my miiiiiiind" ... perfection.

Be Kind

What was the exciting news you mentioned in the reaction? Are we still getting that today?

ROG

I voted for Ghost because that was the only good one in the list..lol. You should give "Christine" a view Ashleigh! Dont want to give too much away so ill just say i think you would like it!

Two Cents Magoo

💡What if a subtheme of March Madness was devoted to psychological thrillers? Max Cady, Dolores, and my man with a van, Jame Gumb?

Elliot Nesterman

Of course, one of the great romances is 1957's "An Affair to Remember," starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. BTW, if you like male eye-candy, you won't find any better than Cary Grant. At least, that's what my women friends seem to think.

Be Kind

Oh, please! Millenial period is 1981 - 1996. It’s like 2 yrs after, and she wasn’t watching movies when she was a toddler. She wasn’t even watching them as an adult. The point is to see films that had an impact on pop culture, and “Mary” is prob one of the best from the Farrelly Bros. who were def part of pop culture. 😏

Be Kind

Oh! Two Cents Magoo (love that moniker btw), you are speaking my language. Cape Fear (1991), Dolores Claiborne (1995) and Silence of the Lambs (1991). Hadn’t thought of Cape Fear, but that’s a good one. Dolores is on my list and been DYING for her to see Silence. 🐑

Two Cents Magoo

💡 Double Feature An Affair to Remember / Sleepless in Seattle 💡 Triple Feature The Shop Around the Corner / In the Good Old Summertime / You've Got Mail ....... She Loves Me as a bonus!

Michael Parker

Only The Lonely is fantastic! Definitely deserves to be seen!

David Harrison

After Feb when it finally starts to be spring like

David Harrison

I'll get this right; Feb. when this right. After spring finally may show up::: Baseball Sandlot, Major League, A League or Their Own. The Natural

Elliot Nesterman

The 2016 Roundabout revival with Laura Benanti, Zachary Levi, and Jane Krakowski is on Amazon Prime.

Be Kind

If you prefer comedy within a story, you might want to try improv instead. Just find an improv group, and go for it. 🎭

EF3078

ghost? sweet, I wonder if this is Ashlelgh's first Patrick Swayze movie.

Edward Olson

First from almost every member of the cast. Except Phil Leeds, who had a bit part in Ghost and also in History of the World Volume 1.

Birdie Num Num

Has anyone recommended Broadcast News? A great rom com and much more(not formulaic). Might interest your husband as well since he's a reporter, right? And it's a seminal performance from Holly Hunter who you like.

Birdie Num Num

Surprised she hasn't done a Tom Hanks film yet. League of Their Own would be a great pick

Future Boy

Albert Brooks is great in it too. And that reminds me, Defending Your Life is a great romantic comedy with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep! How can you not want to see a romantic comedy about two people falling in love in the afterlife??

Be Kind

I prefer Albert Brooks’ Mother (1996) w/Debbie Reynolds. That film had me rolling, prob bc it was so relatable to my life.

Two Cents Magoo

BROADCAST NEWS. 100%. "Ok, I'll meet you at the place near the thing where we went that time."

Two Cents Magoo

James L. Brooks Triple Feature: Terms/B'CastNews/AsGoodAsItGets Lots of Ash-Relevant and Ash-Adjacent themezies.

Brandon Portell

@ingibingi2000 Reactions are meant to be fun? Where's THAT written? Black history month is 'heavy and intense', so... let's ignore it. KINDA why we are where we are as a society, no? Just sayin. Perspective.

Sebastiaan Timmerman

Pretty sure Something about Mary will kill Ashleigh with laughter.

William Wall

Where is "The Bodyguard"?

JSharp

A League of Their Own would be fantastic. Hanks was great in that but it would be awesome even without him. Ashleigh likes Geena Davis, Bill Pullman (even if she’s forgotten she does 😜) and others. She may have a ton of cultural questions about the home front during WW2. But that’s good!

Anonymous

"Mary" does not belong here! The other three are sweet, goofy, charming, even suspenseful. "There's Something About Mary" is one of the most wicked-fun, dark-centered films you'll ever see!

primatador

Congrats! I can't wait to see what you're going to do when you have time to focus on making content.

Marcus

I love how "Ghost" is charting knowing it was a late entry. It makes you wonder what us people who have seen it 50 times know that you don't.

Brett Collier

There's something about Mary made me stop using hair gel...

Brett Collier

coming sooner than you think!, (that's what she said lol)

Aniara

Don't look at the coverpicture of Ghost, major spolier alert...

Anakin Starkiller

You better get alot of tissue for Ghost that's all I'm going to say since it pretty much smoked this poll.

Anakin Starkiller

But yeah jeasus Ghost easily cleaned up. It's an amazing movie and my second favorite Romantic film.

Tim Gilbert

Be Kind, the point is a little narrower than films that had an impact on pop culture. Recent films have impact on pop culture, and this obviously is about watching older films. So there has to be some kind of criteria. Ashleigh had indicated that she thought nothing after released after she was born. I think that is a wonderful cut off point. To me Something about Mary just seems like it doesn't fit on Mondays. Would make an excellent Friday movie though.

Edward Olson

Just let her watch it. You don't need to explain it in advance. You're ruining her experience.

Edward Olson

There's no better way to ensure that she doesn't cry than to warn her in advance she may cry.

Gaz

All I did was say what genres the movie is apart of.... film trailers or a synopsis would say more. Would I spoil Stanley Kubrick’s The Shinning by telling you it’s a horror film?

Anonymous
