Happy Monday Everyone,

Time for the next five chapters of the Gala. It was my birthday this weekend and I have Chatfield visiting me for the week. There has been a lot of drinking and fun, but I'm delighted that I was able to get the chapters done (on time)

Always interested in hearing your comments. I try not to comment on your theories because I don't want to ruin your enjoyment, and I personally really like what you come up with. Arkwright is a very fun idea for the machine.

I hope you enjoy the world building that is being revealed to Sal at the Gala. There will obviously be things I need to work on... like understanding what a Metropolis is, and understanding populations in areas that aren't Ireland. I'll get there with your help, so thank you.

A few fun characters have been revealed and I look forward to hearing what you think of them. Hope you have a great week!

Brian, HaPpY belated birthday!! Hope all your birthday wishes came true! Looking forward to reading these next chapters. 😃

Dutch Palmer

The 'vending machine' should be named either after the location of Hephaestus' workshop or the one who found it--Myson or Kassandra. ... Hephaestus' Workshop was a smithy located within the Myson Cave in Pandora's Cove in Malis, Greece. It was named after Hephaistos, the Greek god of fire and smithing. During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra found the cave, as well as the workshop.

Aaron edison

Chatfield is a real person? Edit: happy birthday btw!

Joanne Hans

Great chapters, can't wait for more.

Thomas Todd

Arkwright is definitely the best name and that's a fact. Nothing to do with me suggesting it! Happy Birthday and great chapters although the cliffs are getting brutal during the gala!!!!

Thomas Todd

We love you Vector!

Ron Blondeau

Happy Birthday Brian. These last chapters are brilliant. What a cliffhanger, lol. I want to pre-order the new book before it is even finished.

Michelle Ray

Happy belated birthday! Amazing new chapters and the cliffhanger at the end of 41 is killer lol. I can't wait to see Fabi's new weave, I've really enjoyed how you describe Sal's ability to manipulate and implant weaves. I can hardly believe we are already on chapter 41. 41 chapters since the beginning of July that's a lot of content. Thank you for all your hard work and looking forward to reading more.

Rielgesh

Tftcs! Loved all the little jokes and surprises, and it feels really good to see how well Fabi and Sal get along after how much Divinity's prediction was hyped up. The world building is awesome, and should help immensely to give a sense of scale and progression going forward!

Tom

I mean... Assassins Creed is cool and all, but I don't think naming the machine after one of their protagonists makes much sense

Grakyn

Oh man! That's a cliffhanger! I need that next chapter!

BrianJNordon

Michael Chatfield is a good friend of mine. He's the author of Ten Realms and Emerilia :)

Ben Enz

Question, Isn't Athena the goddess of wisdom and strategy, not crafting and war? While this could be intentional seeing as athena was mentioned in character dialog, I just want to make sure this checks out. Also the chapters were very satisfying.

Ron Blondeau

Athena is the Greek goddess associated with wisdom, warfare, and handicraft.

Ben Enz

That's right, i did forget about the handicraft part, so it checks out.

Heather Herren

Awesome!!!! I can’t wait for next week!!

John Curtis

I think he is refering to Michael Chatfield the author which has several great series.

John Curtis

Agree with the whole cliff hanger, I am expecting Sal to watch to see if it is done correctly and if not then he takes and fixes it on the spot. That would really get people worked up.

Michelle Ray

I was thinking the same thing. I feel like Brain's leading us that way with all Sal's worries about how Fabi was talking about the implantation. Like he instinctively and through his practice knows how to do it but maybe he's conveyed it in a way that Grant has made some incorrect assumptions?

Alteron

Another cliffhanger, love the book, have trouble waiting

Benjamin Hartmann

You are cruel, I want to scream, this is amazing. Having so much fun!

Abhishek

We better be going from 0 to 1000 in the next one!! Tftc

Chris Hoopes

If Sal is able to quietly prevent a problem he's going to be putting Fabi even further into his debt. However, it would help show the Skill Weave Project team that he is still essential to the projects viability.

Chris Hoopes

Happy Birthday! The chapters are great. Seeing Sal finally relaxing with Fabi is good. I hope he was taking notes with all those runes on the screen. Haste.

Charles Gillentine

Does Sal have a single secret that upgrade hadn't outed him on lol?

Dr. Chaos

Awesome chapters. Since it seems like we’re going to be here awhile-consider “Gala” or “Upgrades” as the title. Following the single-word convention already established…

Durnam Davis

Michael chatfield’s series is what got me into the litprg genre. Without the ten realms I would never have found this series.

Nozzy

Keeps getting better and better!

C

Happy Monday!

David

I would recommend Emerilia by the same author. The first book is “the trapped mind project” and it’s better than 10 realms by a good margin.

Darnell Maxwell

1) Barry is the best! 2) Oh Sal, you sweet summer child. Bless your heart for thinking 200 heroes dieing over the course of a year during a war is alot. 3) And once again Fabi is perfection incarnate. Sal, you might as well propose because I don't see you finding anyone better. 4) Sal, put on the damn tracker! Your finally drunk enough to look at random people's weaves without permission. Take out your tracker so it can store the new weaves and scan everyone while they are distracted by your past accomplishments! 5) I love that Fabi is getting all this recognition. I just hope Anna Sakura doesn't get overlooked. I fully believe Fabi is top of her class academically. I'm just finding it hard to believe that Sakura isn't top one in the more combat oriented tests. (Why did you have to name this character Sakura. I feel a significant amount of pain and nausea whenever I compliment her because she shares a name with....her.) 6) Finally we're done with the mundane announcements. Time shower the saviour class with praise next week!

Lisa Johnson

I’m curious why Sal hasn’t been using his monocle? One would think in the cut throat environment he’d have it. And to do Fabio’s weave without it? I miss the nuances it gave to people’s thoughts and actions.

Hakalakala

I loved Chatfield ten realms. Had no idea that is where the name came from that is awesome. I loved these chapters as I enjoy them all. I will say not a fan of the wait for next week. Have a bad feeling something will go wrong with them doing it publicly. As a chapter set was absolutely amazing and the pins and needles for the next week will be killer. Happy late birthday as well!!!

Nate

Not going to lie, I thought chronos was the name of the dragon, I did not see the way in which the dragon arc was going to go. Hopefully we get more about it.

Nate

Any news if book three will be coming to audible? (Hopefully with the same talented narrators)

Dungeonborn

Yes I haven’t finished Emerilia to date but I dropped 10 realms after realm 6 (pt 1 I think?) for reasons that are known to people who’ve read it 😅 But both are bloody brilliant.

Davi(d)

It gets on my nerves sometimes how Sal hinders himself by not taking every (ethical) opportunity to get stronger. It feels like the author is using like a reverse plot armour/ dumbing down our MC in some situations so that he doesn't come across as OP as he really is. If he used his tracker to store all those weaves he would be able to be much more powerful with crafting, skill mapping, replicating, etc. He just shouldn't not use it all the time. Period.

Lacan

Except it has to start with S. Depending on how the rest of the book goes, it could either be "Soirée," "Stratagems," "Surprise!" or "Smith." Or "Shitfaced"...

Darnell Maxwell

I agree, and while Sal does get on my nerves I wouldn't say it's dumbing down the MC. More so taking advantage of a character's trauma to impose artificial barriers. He grew up being hated for his ability to see weaves and copy them. So he constantly needs to fight against that fear of being hated to one day reach his full potential. Another character that goes through something like this is Rogue. Where her past trauma makes her impose mental limits on herself that keep her from using her OP ability. Her most powerful ability is giving her opponent a handshake but she chooses to fight in an outfit that covers every piece of skin she has. It's not a one to one because no matter how long Sal looks at somebody's weave, it wont kill them. But thinking of it this way just helps me when I get too annoyed with Sal. That and laughing my ass off whenever Barry embarrasses him. Or when he gets his ass beat by Erica or a demon. Or when he cringes from receiving credit for his achievements. In short I greatly enjoy Sal's pain and find it deeply cathartic since he keeps passing up opportunities to get stronger.

Colton Horton

Hey, I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but there are a few spots where a paragraph starts off with someone speaking and there aren't any quotation marks. Ive only read the first two chapters on thisnpost so far, but it mostly seems to be when either Robert or Nemesis are speaking to the room, but it might be in the other chapters as well. It's not really difficult to tell what's going on, but it does somewhat interrupt the flow of reading a bit and might be confusing if people don't catch on to it. Just thought I'd mention😁. TFTC, and great writing as always!

Kanyau

Oh, poor, poor Sal. Well, at least he'll be on hand if they try to nerf her abilities for fear of the impending drone army 😆

Janet Beane

If they wouldn't offer Perfect to the Hunter's Guild until it hit 80%, why would they do a public demonstration on a student when "it's still at only sixty-two percent stabilisation". That is a large chance for something to go wrong. Of course, Sal is there to step in and save the day if need be, outing him even more.

dragon

also, the roman version of Athena, Minerva emphasized being the goddess of crafting more than strategy or wisdom, as the Romans didn't want her metaphorically stepping on Mar's feet in the war god dept.

Travis Snelgrove

Personally I think the speeches went on a little too long, almost 5 chapters of speeches but I see the point, would be better to lessen it just a little bit. Imo

dragon

...is the vending machine going to become a drone printer?

Heather Herren

The question I’m waiting to hear.an answer to is does Sal introduce Divinity to Dr Ameye.. hmmmm

Sam

I'm sure he has his tracker on. It's why he made it able to go invisible after all

Dr. Chaos

Or if we continue with words starting with “S” (more than a little embarrassed I missed that), how about “Supports”.

Nate

The only one I thought was a bit too long was vector unless he’s about to become a bit more integrated into the story eg he gets an ability or something.

Robert Smart

Tyftc. Got a bit emotional at the end there

Dawn Zeleznik

Liked the chapters. Happy belated birthday 🎈Also, for your metropolis, it seems most have water in the US to help with the commerce. I’m not sure if you can portal around that though.

Benjamin Hartmann

I have the impression he is enjoying the party…. And to use the tracker would be rude as hell…. Enjoy the slice of life part. I think he has access to all the weaves anyway….

Darnell Maxwell

He has access to all STUDENT weaves. But as we found out here, there are plenty of heroes and hunters that didn't agree to have their weave scanned. This is a perfect opportunity to copy the weave of every powerful pro in the district. But instead Sal chooses to see the weave of another student and a dude that doesn't have one. I think scanning that girls weave and telling everyone at his table the flaws in it is infinitely more rude and disrespectful then looking at the weaves of pro heroes and keeping that info secret.

Darnell Maxwell

1) You just answered your own question. Should anything bad happen, Sal is there to fix it on the spot. 2) The stabilization is 60% for the general populus. Even when Sal first made the ability, the computer even said Brophy had like an 80% stabilization rating. Fabi is probably another person that syncs well with the ability in it's current form.

Darnell Maxwell

It's the same reason why he's not scanning thw weaves of everybody at the party. He stupidly sees it as an invasion of people's privacy because of all the information it gives.

Fast Lance

Brian you **** what kind of cliff hanger is that!??!!

Fast Lance

Text is hard, I’m joking here but damn you for that cliff hanger

R. Maxwell Steele

Yeah this whole gala getting too many chapters so needs cuts in a lot of places. I expected to half half of these new chapters to be them working on his MythOs bugs, but we are going to get a bunch more Gala chapters before that now. It's going to be a big chunk of the book just at one ceremony.

Dale Medford

Cliffhangers are great to hold interest, but terrible for story line and character development. If you have to put them in, then your story must be garbage with no ability to hold people's interest. You keep writing chapters that seem to do nothing but introduce new people to the story line. Pretty soon you are going to have to put a character directory in just so people can keep track of who everybody is, and it's going to be longer than your book. :( :( :( OH and when the next chapter comes out after a cliffhanger, it's like it was no big deal. So why the cliffhanger???

Benjamin Hartmann

I don’t think it matters when he gets the weaves and I can’t think of all the „useless“ weaves he would see while destroying the gala for him and his friends. And no, it is not rude to tell his friends that the daughter brute forced her weave out of desperation for her father…. She will probably join Sal‘s guild to be the hero she always wanted to be…

BrianJNordon

Hey Colton, that's just a difference between rough draft and editing. I tend to indent those parts where they're announcing things, like when Quest is talking in the amphitheatre in previous books. If someone is just talking to other people, it's quotation marks, if it's an announcement, it's indented. :)

BrianJNordon

I don't know what to tell you, Dale. This is just the way I write. I want to write the story that feels authentic to me, and in the way that I enjoy writing. I don't calculate those cliffhangers or make them arbitrarily, they're just where each chapter finishes to move onto the next scene. I'd rather have a pager turner of a story where people promise themselves they'll read one more chapter. I'm sorry if it's not to your taste. This is my process for writing the books, and I need to stick with it. :)

Colton Horton

Huh, this far in and I hadn't even noticed that, lol. Not a style I've actually seen before, but considering I'm this many books into the series and didn't catch it, I'd say it's effective. 😆

Dale Medford

That's fine, just wanted to put a different view of your writing out there. And to get the idea of doing more for the current storyline than worrying about future books/stories. You just seem to have occasional chapters that are full of info but do nothing for the story, along with the your cliffhangers. Your writing is still enjoyable to read. But I think that everybody can always improve themselves, even myself. Hearing other ideas and criticisms let's us work on improving ourselves. Hope this did not come across to blunt, it's one of the things I'm trying to work on about myself. :)

Frilas Gilneas

I love the arc; the pacing and introduction for the gala are insane. (I knew the cliffhanger was coming, and better now than after he gets on stage, but it still hurts :) ). It’s great to finally have the Mythcrafter secret revealed, and I’m excited for the interaction with the locomotive guy. I wouldn’t be surprised if the simulation for Mythos runs until the gala ends. The fact that Sal made it on instinct, adding the perfect visor and elixir, suggests the machine’s evolution concept is a rank higher than anything the locomotive can create. His instinctive creation of Mythcrafter supports this too. I was going to complain about how we went from "using the Mythcrafter identity to hide that I’m the Replicator" to him announcing it, but it fits with the event’s atmosphere and the misunderstandings about Fabi’s ability. I’m not sure anyone believes the machine is the main component in skill creation, and I’m certain he’ll pull something on stage to make everyone realize that too :)

Sam

When you have the full book, none of these chapters are cliffhangers because you can just turn the page and keep going. It only feels like a cliffhanger to you now because you are waiting a week for that next page

Sam

It's possible it will happen. Grant mentioned it to Quest before that first meeting was over

Sam

No, both the gun and the tracker can be invisible when on his belt, just not when he's wearing them

Sandmanslimz

Been loving the story so far. I wonder if down the line new portals open to other world than hell and different races start appearing

Lumpenhans

It would be interesting if Sal could talk to the house builder guy about his growing wooden fortress. That would certainly be very interesting for the resettlement plan

Aidan Zimmerman

So excited for next chapters to drop, what a cliffhanger. Loving the story. Keep up the good work!

Dawn Zeleznik

Reread and had to wonder about Barry’s comment that Divinity may have told Sal he ends up with Fabi to get his mind off her (Divinity). I think it’s strange because pretty early on Sal and Divinity had established they were just friends.

Isaak Cisse

Sorry for asking but is there a Usual Time Brian uploads the newest Chapters?

C

Happy Monday! I just felt like randomly pointing out that it is Monday today, and it is a completely different Monday than last week's Monday. Its not Sunday either. Its Monday............ Monday.

T W

Where I am we are already several hours into Tuesday, but waiting for the drop lol

C

Pfffttt. What wait? Who was waiting? I was just very randomly excited that it was Monday, and that's all. Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go read something.

David

I enjoyed the first five books of the 10 Realms. With six and after, it seemed like Chatfield was phoning it in or had a ghost writer. They were a mess of side perspectives, editing issues, and stats constantly going back and forth. Not to mention the last two books felt rushed like he just wanted to finish it and move on.

Durnam Davis

Never actually finished the series, was listening to it on audible then they switched narrators and I lost interest. The different voice made it off putting.

Alteron

There is a little problem in chapter 39, Fabi created Vengeance Vambraces in her first year, but in book 3 its only 4 months old.

Chris Collins II

Chpt 39 - how has Bastion blocked attempts to use satellite arrays? (Those are groupings of terrestrial antenna, right?) Vector talks about eyes in the sky.. perhaps Bastion is asserting its orbital superiority by blocking attempts to use satellites?
