Quest Academy Legions, 47-50

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the later than usual post today. I was severely hungover this weekend. Went out with Daniel Wisniewski and his lovely wife. Had a little too much to drink, and woke up in a castle hotel. Was very fun altogether, but I'm still suffering two days later. :)

Let me know what you think of the chapters. The next batch will be more action oriented, I think. There was a lot of fun speculation about the Elixirs and I hope you like the angle I've gone with.

Anyways, hope you all had a great weekend and that your week goes great!

Cool thanks been looking forward to seeing this all week

Pickled Rick

Nice timing for me mate. On the bus home so can crack into the new chapters in about 10 minutes. Can't wait to see what are nutty professor has concocted for everyone.

Kiwi

Thank you for the chapters 🙂

Brian

I’m finding the dialogue at the start of 47 very frustrating, and I’m not sure if it’s intentional. Sal is asking questions, then Alex’s dialogue feels less like answering the asked question(s) and more like he’s continuing a vaguely related conversation.

Kazys Dylys

There's some typing mistakes in chapter 48. Like the spacings and lines don't work out. It's a jumble of word's, difficult to understand

Explosions_Underway

I've been looking forward to these all week! Thanks!

Max

can you maybe quantify the size of the leather blanket in chapter 50, I find it hard to imagine how much Stuff Sal got? How big is it, maybe 5x5 meters?

Jhaxx

Perfect timing. I just broke for lunch and there it was :)

Dutch Palmer

Curse you for dangling the Dungeon run with Jackal--and I assume with Upgrade and Fabi--in front of us... and then making us wait a week!

Kiwi

Why is Jackle upgrading if it’s mythic? Is it about to become celestial?

Iron Akela

16.5 feet by 16.5 feet. I was surprised that fit in Sal’s dorm to be honest

Iron Akela

I believe it’s Jackal upgrading, not the sleeve itself… but that’s a good question for sure

Ron Blondeau

Just wow! You sir are truely a crafter at heart. I am having trouble following the dialogue in chapter 47. Nothing to do with your writing, just with my understanding. I also missed the reference to the Invention Guild. Where can I find it?

Dawn Zeleznik

Thanks for the chapters. I’m grateful and frustrated because it’s never enough. I just want to keep reading.

Zeletavska

It's a guild Upgrade was/is in. It's a tier 5 guild. Not too sure about other details. I thought maybe they would've offered one of the bursaries, but they're not listed there either.

John Duncan

Can't wait for the dungeon run, been waiting since book began!

Dennis Biancanello

I have nearly always been that guy who got the book and read it cover to cover in 1 sitting. So this forced pacing is different for me. I obviously enjoy the material though else why be here. It makes me wonder how you set the pace and expectations more, to appreciate the need for flow while building momentum. How do you decide on your end note though in terms of weekly and a novel if i may ask?

Sye Olmstead

Maybe I don’t remember the mastery thing in the past properly but how exactly does artificially boosting his mastery to 100% help him at all? Isn’t that just a temporary bandaid and not helping at all in the long term?

Jeremy

Why is eight hours gonna feel like a week in real time?

Frilas

Good day, got really long but don't have the writing skills to get to the point it seems :) Maybe I am interpreting too much into it, but there have been a couple of people who pinged me over the last week, and while most were just about the appraisal being there, it feels like others are hoping for something else. While it’s probably me overthinking it, I want to make sure it’s clear that even my negative takes stem from the same addiction to the story everybody else here has. All of my attempts to not read the chapters were instantly broken when the first person told me that the Elixir machine's appraisal is shown. In case I'm not wrong, I recommend you all join the Discord. It’s a great place to exchange thoughts and be part of a great community. Just exchanging thoughts and takes can often change how you interpret the story. I spend a lot of time discussing there (thanks, Zelet, for the comment last time :) ) and exchanging ideas, and I can only recommend it. With that said, I will comment about the last chapters. To get the negative things out of the way, I will start with those, and that is mostly chapter 42 (I know, very surprising). I’m not gonna say much about the machine's abilities, as chapter 50 has made it clear that the machine is getting a big overhaul very soon with the commander cores. I recommend for the final editing to clear up that currently, the machine is only working while somebody is manually using it—it has absolutely zero automation abilities right now. The second thing is that perfect essence is missing in the appraisal. I understand the reason, as the attributes would turn out differently if it’s included, but then it can’t be used during the craft. There has to be a reason it’s not present. Then there is the repeated mentioning of Sal not having his visor. If he really went to his dorm first, then he must have deliberately not taken the visor with him, which makes no sense because, with the visor, he could appraise the machine. It has been shown that the visor can use his skills without Sal needing to use them, so he can use it to appraise the machine without using any skill through his eyes—no problem. And lastly, a thought I got when I saw the runes: during the craft, they gambled on them working, but Mythcrafter can validate the runes, so Sal should be validating the viability of the runes working before they get added to the build with Mythcrafter, as this is a major part of the ability we have seen first with the mythic rifle and last book with the runes on AW and the addition of the drone dock to the glove. With that out of the way, chapters 43-50 were just amazing. The dynamic between Vanessa and Upgrade was amazing to see, and knowing how bothered Upgrade was by Vanessa working on the credit floor instead of being a hero will make it really interesting. The character switch from Alex is just on point—this is exactly how I imagine an alchemist who just got unlimited access to materials to be. The whole guild part was just incredible to read and also an amazing way of showing that all the stuff about Sal was actually kept secret like it was always said—it was insane. (Would have loved for Sal to have the visor to scan the contract just so he has it saved.) There was mentioning about Alex saying the Elixir machine will be automatic soon, which should be Fabi saying that since she has the knowledge from Doc to work with commander cores. Gonna need to reread chapter 47 a couple of times—for somebody earning Blathnaid’s teacher approval, I got really confused with Alex’s descriptions :) Chapter 48 was amazing to read, but there was a scene break from Sal and Petro leaving to Petro commenting on Sal’s fighting style, where I’m not sure if something is missing. There were some empty lines, and it took a moment to realize they already moved. I first thought Petro saw Divinity at the exit of the workshop while Sal was gonna write here at first. also got a blank page at the end? Chapter 49 was great. I was totally expecting it to be related to the skill orb somehow—never expected the bursary stuff. (Doc just got the best ideas.) I hope Sal tries the invention challenges without the visor and without Mythcrafter first, like the following of Doc’s blueprint (I just totally loved it—Sal following a blueprint to the dot—I never thought I would see that :) ). It would make a great test to show him where he stands right now. Love the Hermes Dock and hope he quickly copies that and makes a dock for AW for material transport, or the missing material research of it will make a plot hole later on. Also curious about how far along AW is with the MythOS upgrade. I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am to see the dungeon run next week. I’m 99.99% sure it’s gonna be Bary and Divinity. That dungeon has been planned four times by now and never happened, and Fabi/Upgrade are running leecher dungeons—not the most exciting to test Jackal. While I can only speculate about the effect the evolution for Jackal will be, my current prediction is that it’s going to become a lot more intelligent with the three commander cores, which are the most important material for Artificial Intelligence. Going by the Assimilate ability on the Venomstone and them being one grade below the Blight Core, I’m guessing it will involve an upgrade to Jackal’s physique to increase the attribute gain from strength and such, or a general increase in attributes gained from kills. For Plague Crest, I got no info on what it is. Sounds like it could be something like a hive-like connection between drones or some communication ability between Sal and Jackal, removing the Nexus device’s need. I don’t think I will be able to not read anytime soon. After the last two weeks, the addiction is just too strong. I keep trying, but it doesn’t work, and after all my negative comments, I just wanted to also have one where I can say I just love the current chapters. :)

Frilas

In the past, it was about Brophy, who didn’t even have enough mastery to use his skill at all. A temporary boost disappears, but the experience of having used the skill at that level stays, and you will have gained a boost in your natural mastery as well.

ShaunB

The machine has automation already, they are just researching best plant strains and elixir recipients before they put it into production.

BrianJNordon

A very interesting question, and I wish I had a better answer for you. I do everything by instinct and I'm writing into the dark. I don't know what each chapter or paragraph will be until I write it. I have vague outlines and goals to achieve, but everything is a mystery until It's written. I've done that for all the books so far. :)

Kenneth Darlin

Glad he isn’t skipping a day of classes

The Foolish One

I hope Fabi and Upgrade, dropped by to see Sal's tree fort whilst out adventuring. Also Sal should get the Perfect weave as his implant as it will make ever temporary weave he uses easier to use.

Frilas

Agree on the fort. Always hope for some news there. As for Perfect, there was an interesting discussion about it on Discord in the past. The idea from that discussion was that it’s a bad for implant idea because Perfect is one of the easier weaves to hold with Skill Master and using it this way allows Sal to make adjustments for specific weaves or try to create a higher skill with it. (for example, he adapted Perfect to Fabi’s weave in the past.)

Remember my golden rule for drinking. 2 drinks of water for every drink with alcohol. Especially if they’re spirits. Tyftc. (I need this rule as if it’s wet and near me I drink it)

Bryan Swanson

Question on nodes. Based on the book each person has a base 60 nodes naturally that need to be opened. Sal had his split in 4 totaling 240 but currently only has 120ish functioning with essence. Can these be split again? The reason I ask in book 4 during Fabi’s skill implant a Hero shouted he had 400 gates. And i have not figured out the math on that yet based on natural gates and the breathing method gates. Just has be curious on how many total gates a person can support

Naotsugu97

Bro! If you’re that hungover, you need hair of the dog! Not the metaphorical type either! Stumble out of your flat, find a ferocious looking dog, chomp it with your teeth, then RUN!!! You’ll either forget all about being hungover, or you’ll die. Either way, hangover is cured!

Naotsugu97

Also, just putting this out there. The mask needs to be called the Beneficent Apex Neurological Effect Mask, or, BANE Mask for short!!! 🤣

Frilas

60 is a normal value, while Sal has 60 gates. It differs from person to person, with Rachel having 70 and Erika having 120. I’m not sure how often they can be broken, but either the process is normally different for Sal breaking all at once, or Prestige has gone through a second one between the outing and the gala.

TDL

Will be stealing and passing this cure 🤣

Tanstaafl

Facinating, half way through the book and 1 month into semester. It will be book 20 for his graduation. Ilove it! A couple of items.I assume he took the Reavers bursary, why wasn't Villa at the guild creation as a courtesy? Finally wjere did the invention challenge come from?

Sam

I wondered about both of these too and assumed that the Invention challenge might have had something to do with Upgrade's advanced crafting class since Upgrade used to belong to the Invention Guild. But I still wonder about Villa not being there since having three advisors would increase his requirement cap of earnings to $20 thousand instead of $15 thousand. I am also still a little ticked at Vanessa because initially Sal thought he was getting administration help with the Guild and now she is all gung ho to be in the field instead.

Sam

But isn't that Alex when he's excited? He usually rambles when talking anyway.

Bryan Swanson

Looking forward to tomorrow’s chapters!!!!

Madisyn

So have you thought about doing a tier to have a character named after us?

Dawn Zeleznik

At work, hoping to get a very early release.😄

Burt C

Chapter 50 in book 5 shows a hermes dock - it would be good if Sal had this between Arkwright and his dorm. So he can test new materials.

Brett 'Swantz' Swanson

Chapter 50, page 2, middle bottom: "everything in the Arkwright" was probably meant to be "everything in Arsenal" since Arsenal is what he has quick access to.

Brett 'Swantz' Swanson

Chapter 50, end: "the Arsenal" should probably be just "Arsenal."
