Next 5 Chapters
JordanCon in Atlanta this week.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the late post today. Was reading over the last few chapters and making a few little changes. Hope you enjoy these, and that they answer a few little questions. We get to meet a character that has been teased far too long. :)

I'll be heading to Atlanta this week for JordanCon so there will likely be reduced chapters next week. Sorry about this, I intended to get ahead, but wasn't really able to.

Anyways, hope you all had a great Easter / Bank Holiday. See you all for next week's update.

Not sure how the endurance stat in chap 61 works. In the stat block, it seems lower than the increase number. Maybe I read it wrong but it seemed off when I read it

BrianJNordon

In Chapter 60, that was the first time the number had appeared. It was an accumulation of the small increases, and in Chapter 61, it's the total. There's roughly 0.30 or so between them, with Chapter 61 having the higher value. :)

Sal: I am about to build the most amazing thing ever, right now! Brian: Will Sal build this amazing new device? Can he still make it Mythic grade? Find out next time on QUEST ACADEMY!!!! (P.S. I will be gone for a week, which may throw the reveal into disarray. Sorry about that.)

Ron Blondeau

Terrific chapters. The intrigue with Shade and the project with Coach! I am sure some of the members will notice any inconsistencies, if there are any, but to my mind its the powerful story that counts the most. This is a story of personal discovery and growth in all the characters. Its also the building of a society in a war for survival. I cant wait to see where this is going. Bring on next Monday!!!

LadyLark

First year? Isn’t Sal a second year?

dark phoenix99

I look forward to getting a deeper look into coaches ability.

Pickled Rick

All for Sal screwing over Shade again but how would his plan have really worked exactly? If Sal scanned all the equipment before the delve could he not use his mother's "fake" weave to fix everything back to normal like he did in the Book 1 when that crafter gave him that broken core as a test. He wouldn't even need a workshop just the pieces and some essence.

Pickled Rick

A Sal, Coach team up is definitely the dream scenario right now. If the gear can use both Skill Master and Coaches perfected weave to push up evolve a skill while removing weave knots who wouldn't pay a fortune for it? They could make Coach another guild advisor as well haha.

Ali Sha

Thank you for the chapters! Loving confident Sal.

Jim Swift

The Coach chapters were well worth the wait. Now since we always wait at the station for the coach class, it will be two weeks of a cliff hanger? :-)

Frilas

Nice chapters. I'm not the biggest fan of the last one personally, but I can’t really give a reason for that—it just had this forced feeling when reading, if that makes sense? Wasn't this scanner what he was planning to craft with the system in Quests Masterclass? It feels like what Sal describes as the idea is exactly that: a machine that can analyze things and then create a system roadmap for improvement. I am very confused about the repeated mention of obsidian glass coming up. I think I made a side note back then, but to get to Cypher, obsidian glass is the wrong material. It needs something like scarlet screen, which has analytic/calculation attributes, while obsidian glass is shown to be an extremely neutral material used mainly for runes because of its attributes around enhancing essence flow. While it’s optimal to replicate the visor's calibrate ability—made from attune and cultivate, which have both been shown to be material attributes of obsidian glass—it has not been shown to possess anything needed for Cypher/Judgement. I am just so dam exited for tomorrow when book 4 comes i don’t think im gonna manage to get anything done till then and until i read it :) Edit: genius me marked the wrong month in my calendar :(

Fearghal Flynn

Look forward to every Monday for this, and it never disappoints. Thanks so much Brian, have fun at the upcoming events!

Heather Herren

Awesome!!! Can’t wait until the Shade vs Sal showdown

Jim Swift

Tomorrow?? Thought the release date was May 23. Has that changed?

Rielgesh

Tftc! Loved these chapters! Lots of groundwork laid for several future events!

JJB4345_80_815

Thank you for the chappies! Friendly possible edit: (ch 65 or the last chappy in the bunch) Quote: Sal nodded as Coach into his dorm room. /Quote Coach into ==> Coach went into OR Coach entered OR Author's Literary Preference (lots of ways to edit the sentence).

Sam

Maybe it's just me, but Coach seems kind of an a-hole.

Justin

Awesome chapters and new character for the cast. I also like the low key affirmation that Sal's body is good to go for crafting! Oh and I am so counting the days until the Mythic Guild gets to take turns beating the snot out of Shade lol! Keep them coming boss, love the story!

R. Maxwell Steele

"You have three hours to prove your not full of shit." That's a rough cliff.

R. Maxwell Steele

Yeah he's got a slick salesmen kind vibe mixed with a "this isn't my job" and "I'm just here for the money" personality. But I think ever since he screwed up Gallants ability evolution, he's scrounging for a living. They made it seem like he's had a decade long rough patch.

Dawn Zeleznik

Love the new chapters. I can’t wait to see Shade get put in his place, again.

Cedric 'Driky' Chatelain

Between the promise of some Shade bashing and that chapter ending, I’m ultra hyped for the next chapters!

Nomad

I would love to go to Jordan con but I can't even imagine the crap I would get when they saw my name on my badge. My name is literally Robert Jordan.

Max

Question for chapter 64 Why is the size of coach described in feet? I thought you used the metric system.

Max

Question for chapter 61 Hi Brian, I'm not sure I can understand Sal's reaction to Shades plan. Why is he so bloodthirsty? Can you maybe explain where my error in understanding of his character is?   As I see Sal, he is very protective of his friends and family should they potentially come to physical or emotional harm. We first saw that in the first book. We also saw that Sal dislikes Shade and wishes him misfortune. We also know that Shade tries to get free services or materials from the Argentos.  These are all patterns we know. Hence, I can't understand what changed for Sal after he heard about the future from Divinity.   Shade is only looking at getting a financial benefit. His guild will protect the students and there will only be material damage. Shade wants to play a scheme to get monetary compensation. Divinity ensures Sal that the higher-ups are aware and the situation is handled.   Wouldn't it be easier for Sal to only bring Epic grade equipment and his legendary visor. That one is known as a legendary.  It would also mess with Shade's plan and not harm anyone.   If you could explain where I am wrong that would help a lot. Many thanks in advance

Kieran

I'm a bit confused what you were going for with the impossibly tall line in chapter 64. Is the average height so short that 6 and a half feet is impossibly tall? Or is it more of a stature thing?

Bettafish

Shade has been the face of the antisupport bias Sal is fighting for all his life, he just took his first steps to fixing that and shade pulls THIS. With how shade acts, "the higher ups handling him" after an overstep has probably happened a lot and not done much + the named higher up was Chatfeild who is still iffy on Sal's trust scales after book 2.

Pickled Rick

Imposing is probably a better description although I think when someone is built like a Rugby player and is 6f6 they look impossibly tall to most people below 6f2 just because of the way they take up space.

Pickled Rick

UK still uses ft and in for height and I guess Ireland does the same for the most part. There is also the American focused editing process where the American spelling over the English one is often used because America is the bigger audience. In this instance everyone understands ft and in but not everyone can use metric for height.

Sam

Coach states that Sal's body can handle his abilities, so was it All Sight that caused Sal's eyes to bleed? Or is Coach just wrong?

Jana

My guess is: it can now. After extensive Healing and the Dungeonrun that boosted his stats. Don’t forget he got quite some points there :-)

Jim Swift

How many members are there in the Delvers Guild? I thought I read of some Guild Statistics in one of the earlier books, but don't recall which book, or if it mentioned Guild sizes?

RnR_ RnR

I can't wait for villa.

Elizabeth Dean

I agree that I find Sal’s bloodthirst regarding the delvers guild out of character and odd. When Divinity says that there will be casualties and he replies that that is the whole point, I find that disturbing, especially considering the way he thought during the Hunter’s Bureau gala when they were doing the casualty announcements and that whole table discussion. It all seems rather unlike the Sal we have come to know that he would suddenly be ok with other potentially innocent members of the delvers guild coming to harm because of Shade’s actions.

Sam

Unless he is only thinking that Shade will be the only casualty.

Sam

Doesn't mention guild sizes, just ranks.

Dillon Beedie

Amazing! Love the ending left me wanting more. Felt very on par for Sal to challenge Coach like that.

Kiwi

Love these chapters, getting some skill weave adjacent stuff going on hell yeah, but I can’t decide if Sals attitude with Coach is Confidence, Arrogance, or Competence. I feel he’s getting a cocky attitude to tutors like first his altercation with Lombardi (because he surpassed the basics in skills class ahead of the other students) and now trying to monopolise Coach’s time.

Justin

I kind of thought he was just playing the game in front of him to get what he needs? And I would go with Desperation for knowledge along with Competence.

crazyray

Good batch.

Jonathan Campbell

Damn that made me wish I had procrastinated reading those chapters until next week when I could just read straight through into chapter 66+. Most times the chapter breaks don't tend to feel too much like cliffhanger material, this one did though, at least to me. Now I just have to figure out how to distract myself from thinking about it till Monday!

TDL

Quest Academy upcoming release; Do we know the date of legacies audible release yet?

Jay EnVy

I just got a Australian Shepard puppy and we named her Villa. Too bad I can't upload a photo here...

Jim Swift

Are the comments for earlier books , prior to Book 4, still available somewhere?

Jonathan Campbell

Ok, I know Brian is supposed to be attending a convention this week if I remember correctly, but shouldn't we be getting at least like 2-4 chapters today anyway?

Perversity

@Brian - Found an error between Chapter 60 and 61. in 60 you give Sal 2.41 Endurance. Then in 61 you give him 2.73. Then show his total stats and he only has 2.7 Endurance. Instead of the 5.14 he should have.

Brett 'Swantz' Swanson

Chapter 65, page 5, bottom: "Sal nodded as Coach into his dorm room" is missing either "as he led Coach" or "as Coach walked into."
