Hey Everyone,

First of all... an absolutely massive thank you for everyone that picked up a copy or started reading on Kindle Unlimited. We managed to hit the highest ever ranking in the worldwide store, peaking at 35! Right now, I expected Legions to be yeeted back into the thousands, but it's staying strong at 54. Delighted with the release and the show of love and support from everyone picking it up. :)

Here's the next batch of chapters. I hope you like them, and I think you'll see some of the stuff I've been alluding to in the background that will hopefully make sense.

New keyboard arrived today, and new monitor should be here next week. Moving to Ultrawide to see if it'll improve my productivity. Wish me luck!

All the best,
Brian

Haven’t read yet but saw 5 chapters and squealed like a preteen girl.

Congrats on the launch, and I hope your new equipment provides Argento-level convenience for your writing. I did have one question pertaining to Hannah, the Darwin Cruises, and essence weaves, that might be a continuity or logical disconnect. It stems from the Chapter 65 paragraph, which reads: "'So there's no combat requirement for this?' Sal asked in a relieved tone. None of the refugees had essence weaves, so suppressing them with abilities would undoubtedly make tensions worse." If the Darwin Cruise refugees don't have essence weaves, then where did Hannah get her weave from? It seems strong enough that it shouldn't be a first generation essence ability, and she seemed too familiar with it to have been something acquired when she came to Quest Academy. I would also expect that atmospheric essence wouldn't be restricted to land, both because atmospheric movement on a global scale should help distribute it, and because we know water doesn't restrict essence accumulation as demonstrated by underwater dungeons being a thing. I guess what I'm asking is, shouldn't the Darwin Cruise refugees have essence abilities, if not then what is preventing them from manifesting, and how does Hannah's backstory and current ability make sense?

(1) Maestro Mark was originally developed for Gallant, but then also for Sal at Fabi and Upgrade’s urging? To be used as a vapour out of Sal’s uniform collar/mask to help heal him? Divinity saw the mask/vapour combo as a great money earner, but has Sal used it yet / has it been added to his collar/mask? (2) In book 5 Jez told Sal that they could only have 5 members per advisor. Villa, Diva + Uprgade = 15 members but they’re way over that number now with Divinity, Elina, Yasmin and Maxine joining. Unless Sal’s dad counts? But he’s not an active Hero? And even then they’re still over the limit (3) If Villa manages to extract herself from the Reavers to join Mythic with Blink and Watcher, do they all count towards those ^ numbers?

(4) Could we please see Sovereign soon?

Pretty sure Jez is an advisor plus I think they Tiered up or got bump up a tier with all of Sal’s accomplishments so they can have more members.

How about "Time Lord" instead of "Time Emperor", paying homage to the Doctor Who character?

Fingers crossed for Archology, Dr. Bob's bro, and Sal to go in on a Death net commune as a land based alternative to the cruises. We've not spent enough time with Harmony to say there aren't Bastion infiltrators in the mix, but I think Arch's probably solid. Giving the refugees both new and old somewhere to stay and means to build a community would be better than what they've currently got going.

Rereading Loyalists' chapters again and I think there's a continuity error between chapters 44 and 44. In 44 Barry "mouths recruit her" in regards to Anna K, the Conjuror, yet in 45 he's giving Sal shit should he try to recruit her, and puts Anna and Blathnaid down when Blathnaid speaks to her about joining the guild later.

So I am guessing that they will all have gimmick uniforms, some support gear, and that Sal will be hiding their combat gear in his arm arsenal and they will have to meet up with him after getting attacked at some point to get kitted out or if they are on their own they will need to make do with only their gimmick uniforms

In chapter 55 Divinity starts explaining why Athena hurts you during testing but then gets distracted by skill paragon, was she meant to complete that thought? Will we get an answer at some point?

Casual Ham

Given what else we've gotten, it sounds like it might have to do with splitting gates and/or optimizing weaves.

I started re reading the books and I still don’t understand the soul forge ability that Gallant has. What does it mean? I can understand that he has trouble handling negative emotions and has suppressed negative emotions all his life and now they are messing with his power. But what exactly is his power? Can someone explain it to me in simple terms?

I have seen a couple of posts regarding the purpose of Maestro Mark, and I would love some clarification, as I fundamentally don't get why MaestroMark, as currently defined, is a big deal for most Heroes. If I understand/recall correctly, increasing Mastery does not increase your Factor or the Grade of the weave; it simply increases the Mastery of the current Grade (i.e., how well you can use it) . This was the part that was broken for Gallant... his weave evolved to a higher Factor (Soul Forge) while his Mastery remained too low to actually use Soul Forge. I (and based on the comments below, others) were under the impression that MM was basically going to allow him to artificially increase his Mastery so he could use his SF weave. Mastery again comes up when Sal evolves Skill Paragon but he can't use it (until Athena starts training him). Again, nothing is mentioned about MM at this point, even though it seems like a perfect use case (if it increases Mastery) However, there is, as far as I can recall, no real mention of the Mastery attribute in all of the Athena/Legions output or discussion (except for Sal's Skill paragon training in Athena). It is almost like Brian is moving away from the attribute. I hope not, as I would really like to see more about Mastery as an attribute, along with Factor and Grade, in the Athena/Legion Systems. As someone said earlier, at one point, MM was also described as something that would allow Sal to use his weaves without damaging himself. However, his damaging himself doesn't appear to be a Mastery issue, but rather a physical Endurance stat issue. In the last use (that I remember) MM is more of a combination Essence potion (based on how it was used for Maxine Volta in Athena) and general "Grade boost" (based on Alex's comment and some of the discussion about its use by Heroes). I would love clarification of how Maestro Mark really works. It seems that the idea of simply maxing out mastery of the current Factor/Grade would not be enough to make it as valuable as it is and it certainly appears from the text that it is much more.

Sam

His initial ability was hype which allowed him to fight better as long as he believed in himself, which is why everyone told him how wonderful he was. Soul forge allows him to be empowered by all of his emotions and he upgraded just as he was going into puberty so he has the usual adolescent hormone cocktail as well as his PTSD influencing his powers making him unable to control himself similar to the battlefever he had in the tower but with the added caveat of being even more destructive

Rainy

Chapter 68 small thing. "Maxine insisted as he looked at Vanessa."
