Slacky, I think I figured out why Yan had his fingers splayed out and his hand right over his mouth. It was to catch Merabs jab. Fingers are splayed out so it's more comfortable if he gets hit on the hand, instead of having the bony joints pushed into his teeth, the hand is sort of like a baseball glove allowing the force to be dispersed a bit more. Lennox Lewis (?) I think talks about hanging his hand in front of his face. The thinking is the jab is more common than the left hook, so he'd rather be able to block a jab he didn't notice than a left hook, hence the hand over the mouth instead of on his jawbone.
