PTB Q&A #16 | FILTER TUNING for PERFORMANCE

Comments

Simofly

Super super interesting ! Hope to be present soon

FUNKOLIUS

great job...thank you! I learned more than something today! 😉

TERBANGFPV

love this episode! cheers

Hristian Todorov

The residual noise, after you increased the rpm_filter_q to 1000, won't this affect the D-term ?

The PIDtoolbox Guy

The residual noise was not motor. There are a couple of resonance peaks so DN could should have been increased to take care of that. In addition, dterm noise was still well below safe range. These are performance decisions. Also it’s tentative. I’d typically continue tweaking filters as we tune PIDs where motors are quickly and continuously ramped up and down during wobble tests

Hristian Todorov

When one DN is configured in betaflight, is it one DN per axis only ?

FlytFilm

Thank you! I learnt a lot from this! It would be nice to see more of this, but focusing on the D Term filters.

MisterG

I'm late to the party. I really learned something today. Great talk!

Hi Brian, thanks for the video, I started to really understand the importance of filters, especially after our session few weeks ago! I have a question though about gyro lowpass 2. When we use f4 fc, it’s obvious that we need this filter on against aliases. But what is the story with f7? Should we just keep it on because it wouldn’t cause a lot of extra delay, or it’s not necessary at all?

The PIDtoolbox Guy

Whether to use gyro lpf2 is dependent upon whether you have to lower the pid loop rate or not. It’s just that the F4 can’t safely run at 8k, but often even the F7 should be dropped to 4K pid too. So in both cases it’s probably important to retain lpf2.

Hello, First off, thank you for all your efforts. I am trying to follow this with my quad in the latest v.8 and cannot seem to find the motor harmonics buttons, they seem to be missing?

The PIDtoolbox Guy

Great, thanks! Motor harmonics only in the pro version. If you’re in the pro tier, you might have downloaded the wrong one. Both are available for pro tier

Hi, really great video ! Learning a lot. Question about the risk of the rpm Q factor at 1000 . You said no risk for a 5" quad. But where are the risk ? Is it with smaller or larger quad ? I'm currently tuning a 7.5" 3 blades

The PIDtoolbox Guy

Thanks. To be clear, I definitely did not say there’s a risk at rpm Q 1000. Q only sets the width of a notch. Higher Q is narrower and lower filter delay
