I want to believe. (Patreon)

Good morning,
I was thinking about aliens last night. Big grey melon head black eyed aliens stealing cows and lying on autopsy tables like giant frogs, and it made me remember being a kid. I WANT TO BELIEVE on my wall, a Dana Scully action figure on the bookshelf.
I used to write silly X-Files fan fiction under silly fake names. Post it online. Silly silly. I say silly because it didn't pay the bills. That's silly, writing for the pleasure of it. Or writing to connect with people, even though you know it won't make any money. Writing doesn't pay the bills. Writing makes so little money. Your kindness pays the bills.
Sometimes I think about writing adaptations of my favourite weird old movies. They adapt books into movies all the time. But when it's the other way around, it's a "novelization." and it comes out with a movie cover and it's just another piece of merch. I want to adapt Carnival of Souls into a novel. I want to adapt it into a Joey Comeau novel, too. I want it to be special. I want to adapt The Innkeepers. The Others.
I think about that sometimes. Just a wildly illegal adaptation. Release it for free online. Sell it print on demand until they shut me down. Pirated novels. I want to sell them out of the trunk of a lincoln continental for five bucks. Collect them all in one volume, eventually. My first mixtape.
Drive across North America with a pirate radio typewriter broadcasting from the back of the jeep.
Write soon, I miss you,
Joey
