This is our second Patrons only questions episode.

Listener NW asks: "How is it possible that the Byzantines have left relatively little behind of their civilisation? Of course the Ottomans did their part, but still. Is it because of war and destruction? It is because of the fall of Constantinople that very few papers have been left behind?"

I also explain my decision to release no new Byzantine Stories episodes until we reach the end of the narrative.

Completely off-topic, but over at Reddit/r/ancientrome someone asked which podcast is better, Mike Duncan's History of Rome or Robin's. It's currently running around 90% in favor of Robin (over 50 comments). ;-)

Imagine drawing Constantine in crayon with the actual Constantine looking over your shoulder. Horrifying!

Great episode, thanks Robin. Extremely intrigued by this game you've designed... Any details you can share?

I try to avoid Reddit but this is very kind. People forget though that Mike was doing the podcast in his spare time. He had no time to go into any more detail than he did.

You are Emperor in the year 800 (or so) and must make decisions on how to govern. How will you deal with the vicissitudes of fate?

I was wondering why this episode was not appearing in my feed. Turns out that patreon filters by content that you can access.

For something that is not just foundations and gives a sense of East Roman building and architecture I would recommend Mystras. I haven’t been there but the images from the Internet just ooze atmosphere and romantic allure; a place that can send you back in time.

A while ago, I began “saving” the bonus episodes for after the end of the narrative because I think it would be sad to have the wonderful experience of listening to this podcast end on that sad note. I look forward to hearing all of them as they sound like they will be fascinating!
