I don't think it's exclusively the Red Door stuff with Elijah. One aspect of his character that has been hinted throughout is that he's not as noble as he seems. That's why when Finn was using representational magic and casting him as the noble stag, they were able to break out with the revelation he's not that noble. I think there are two reasons why he is acting differently though: He has more to lose now. The Originals have been invincible for a while. It's easy to act noble when you're not afraid and he's had a lot more to be afraid of recently. He also has more to fear on account of Hayley, Hope, and even Freya. They're not as indestructible as he is and he really believes what Hayley once said, "Loving any of us is a death sentence, isn't it?" The second issue is his relationship with Klaus. They act as counterweights. He is taking on more of Klaus's traits as Klaus is becoming better because, I think, he believes *someone* has to take on that role. It's sort of how Damon was often at his best when Stefan was at his worst and vice versa. Klaus and Elijah's relationship and Stefan and Damon's relationship were always kind of parallel and they seesaw between who is the "good" brother and who is the "bad" brother at any given time.

A couple things, my take on Elijah is that as the series goes on, he's seeing Klaus change and become closer to redemption. The one thing Elijah has been attempting to achieve for over 1 thousand years is within reach, but things just keep getting in the way, and he's willing to sacrifice his own character to get rid of them, otherwise his entire life would be for nothing. Although Esther opening up the red door in his head did the opposite of help the situation. Also you mentioned that people don't like Legacies, which is mostly true, and I believe it's because (without giving too much away) there's a lot of big differences in the verse from what we've seen so for in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. However I think they're explained pretty well and I find the differences quite fun and unique. I'd say it's definitely worth watching Season 1 at least to see if you can get into it.

yes! I really hope you do Legacies! there is loads of stuff to watch I know but it'd be fun at least for nostalgia's sake

My headcanon is that Legacies is a AU of TVD. I don't hate it, but it's definitely different. However, if Harry *doesn't* watch the show, then there is like, one specific episode I want him to watch, which is S3ep3. Not saying what it's about because of spoilers, but iykyk lol

I really hope you do legacies it’s my second favorite show after the originals and easily my most rewatched. It has its faults but so does every show if you come to love this universe more time in it is never a bad thing. It even goes on to expand a few more things magic wise. The characters are good and I really enjoy season 1 and 4 of it. Legacies leans into a more light hearted angle than the originals or tvd and I think it rubs some people the wrong way but I really enjoyed it.
