You can really feel how developed the world is this season, even the side stories have me HOOKED. Excited to see how Colin and Penelope are with eachother after this... development 👀

pall mall is the game that kate and edwina played with the bridgertons out at aubrey hall and what they played in the epilogue last season

I got Deja Vu when I said I didn't know what it was, so I fear I've said that every time 😭

I get the feeling that Portia sees herself in Penelope and as a result projects a lot of her own feelings and experiences onto Penelope. She had a terrible experience with marriage so she thinks Penelope could not possibly want love and instead should appreciate the freedoms that come with not being shackled to a terrible husband. She needs to see Penelope as her own person and believe that she can find something better than her mother had.

Colin’s perspective of the kiss in the book is so sweet! (never actually read the book, only that passage). He thinks about how this is the first real kiss he’s ever had and when Penelope thanks him he feels bad because he doesn’t want her to think that he pities her. I think that’s why they had Colin journal about how lonely he feels despite being with all these beautiful woman, so that the audience could contrast that against him feeling something intimate and real when he kisses Penelope.

I adored this reaction!! It is so nice to see how much you are starting to understand Colin. I feel like we keep getting small pieces into his mindset, for example, when Pen was reading his journal and the last line she read was "I marvel at how one can feel such intimacy, but also such great distance" really just shows how lonely he feels even when being with different women. I loved your take on the journal situation, he definitely is such a private person who doesn't like to share a lot about himself out of fear of what people might think so it must of been nice to hear Penelope's compliments which is why he wasn't mad at her anymore.

Lol I wish you could have seen me wince when you said, "it's not like Whistledown is going to write about it."

Fun fact, Nicola said they had to keep redoing the kiss bc she was too familiar with how. The director kept reminding her she can't look "good" at kissing without going the satirical portrayals bad kissing we tend to see in media

Great reaction. This episode and the next few are honestly some of my favorites of the show just in terms of pure enjoyability and watchability - leaning into the rom-com and comedy vibes in a way the tropes in the previous seasons haven't leant themselves to. QC is amazing and definitely the best season, but the angst is heavy so the palate cleanser is nice! In terms of titles and inheritance, women can't inherit titles (and I'm pretty sure still can't in most instances, which is kind of crazy) but titles can pass down the female line. That's what will have happened when you have a different surname and title eg Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings and various other examples in the show. (The Bridgerton viscountcy would have been passed directly father to son or to younger brother and their son). I believe that if the Featherington girls father hadn't died, whoever had the first grandson would still be next in line for the Featherington title so the forged document is sort of just restoring things to the way they would have been if he hadn't been murdered. With the Mondrich family, their son gets the Kent title, but Will will be responsible for looking after the estate on his behalf until he comes of age.

I like that you can see how relatively unaffected Penelope is by talking shit about herself, just brushing away a single tear, compared to how tormented she was when she wrote about Eloise. Just a nice character moment for me.

You asked what was up with Penelope's maid. I just it's the fact that basically her job is to stop Penelope from being alone in places with men (like Colin), but also if Penelope gets a Bridgerton, the maid sort of gets an automatic promotion by being the head maid of Penelope's future estate, so she's doing a bit of assessing of how much she actually wants to do her technical job and how much she wants to let them... explore. As you can see, she's left them alone together *a lot.*
