Colin in his yearning era we love to see it

Colin - constantly every interaction with/about Penelope prior to this episode -Pen, my friend, my friend Pen, friend friend friend! This episode, can't even bring himself to say the word, a "very good acquaintance of the family" indeed. Everyone else constantly referring to her as his friend and he just looks like he wants to die each time. Bless.

I do wonder if part of Francesca’s introversion has to do with the fact that she’s been away from her family often & therefore developed a different, quieter personality than her siblings. It must be so overwhelming to be around them all at once, no matter how much she loves them.

Colin’s anxiety and pining this episode is extra funny because we, the audience, know that if he were to go up to Penelope the day after the kiss and tell her he’s interested in courting her she’d probably explode from happiness 😭 It’s such an inconvenient time for him to have developed feelings because he’s been hurt by the Marina situation in the past and he’s also trying so hard not to be vulnerable this season.

It makes sense that the season would be more focused on Colin and Penelope discovering themselves like you said. The two have never had any sort of aversion to love in the way Simon, Kate and Anthony did. If Colin & Pen didn’t have any issues with self esteem and self worth, the show wouldn’t need 8 episodes to tell their story.

They're also a fair bit younger than those 3 so makes sense they're a bit more of a work in progress as individuals.

Random piece of behind the scenes trivia you may appreciate given your fondness for Benedict: apparently Luke Thompson kept ripping his trousers in the scene with the balloon, and in the end they just ended up putting him in underwear the same colour so it wouldn't show 😂 Semi related, I like that you're liking the costumes this season, it's got criticism from some quarters for not being historically accurate, but frankly, this shows never been historically accurate but they all look good so who cares!

I loved the reaction just finished! I love how understanding you are of these characters, its so nice to hear. Side note - I understand why you would pick Debling since he is more sure of himself and don't get me wrong he is an attractive guy but as someone who is feral over Colin that still shook me lmao

I love all of season 3, but this is still my favourite episode. I love the way we see Colin struggling with his realisation that the love he's always had for Pen has been more without him realising because she's always been special to him since they were so young. She's always been in a category all her own to him. Luke Newton does such a great job at conveying so much with just his eyes and I adore his scene with Violet and that last scene in the ballroom. Plus Portia saying "no" to the inventor never fails to make me laugh!
