even all these years and many rewatches later i dont think i will ever get over elijah and hayley, everything about them in this show but particularly this season makes me cry so hard and to use your wording, so unbelievably bittersweet

They really are, can't wait to rewatch the show and see the early days. I know so much pain follows but their journey has been so lovely to watch play out, i just keeping thinking about them in France 😭 my heart breaks everytime but knowing they'll see eachother again makes it a lil easier 🥹

This is likely the least important part of the episode, but Klaus' abrupt scream from talking calmly to Josie and Lizzie makes me crease every single time. Also no, we didn't know about the last white oak stake, it was essentially Klaus pulling it out of a secret compartment up his arse I think 😅

You would think the entirety of the New Orleans witches looking for white oak would’ve been pulled to the big ass stake instead of the white oak chess horse in season 3 lol but ok I’ll take klaus at his word lol

The thing that killed me most when first watching this episode, thinking about the prospect of Klaus or Elijah sacrificing themselves, is how little time they actually spent with Hope. Both plus Hayley missed a good chunk of her first year, then were around until she was 2, gone for 5 years, spent a few months with her when she was 7, gone for 7 years, then this brief time together in season 5. 😭 1000% agree about Klaus and Caroline, not sure I've ever seen a reactor or reviewer articulate my exact thoughts before. I always found their popularity on TVD baffling tbh but would have been supportive of exploring more in this era. In terms of season 4 vs 5, I'll probably be able to say more next week, but I'll say this season works more for me emotionally, but not really in terms of story (case in point the white oak stake seemingly pulled out of nowhere despite it making no sense and being entirely unnecessary when Marcel exists)

i agree with your whole comment and about Klaus and Caroline, i've never thought they ever had, i don't know how to express it, a time for each other and the relationship. it just never felt right until now and well, now's not really a good time. one thing i have an opinion on tho, is their popularity. i can't speak on behalf of everyone but i personally really liked them in a manner that they were always very similar somehow. two people knowing themselves well and exactly who they are, what they deserve. i don't wanna call it an ego but more of a self respect. knowing they are born for great things, want to explore, ravish in their vampire existence. every single conversation they had in TVD made me see that in detail. Again, i don't know how to express it well, but it's like every time Klaus spoke to Caroline, she realized more and more he read her well on her desires, personality and that's really it for me. I am a huge fan of opposites attract but in their dynamics of being similar, what ifs and they'll have a blast together, somehow it made me like them (only if Klaus behaved well obv, ain't no way Caroline would follow him up on horrifics). still a subjective opinion of mine tho, great seeing Candice here too.

I don’t know if you realised but Hope freezing that douche’s car at the car wash was a fun call back to Bonnie setting some guy’s car on fire at their car wash back in TVD S1!

As a Klaroline fan when TVD was airing, I think a lot of their likability as a couple was built on the actors’s chemistry together and it was also nice seeing glimpses of Klaus’s vulnerability. But now in TO s5 there’s a maturity and tenderness in the evolved characters that just makes them far more enjoyable to watch as a couple.
