Fantastic introduction to the show, safe to say they have me hooked already. Tis always a pleasure to have a queer romance that seems to be taken seriously, plus the premise is SO interesting. Excited to see where we go from here!!

Dropbox Tip: The quality of the video is lower while streaming so I recommend downloading or using google drive if thats an issue

Harry. I cannot tell you how impossibly glad that you are covering the show. I am sat and I have popcorn.

Oh also Shane and Ilya probably aren’t actually captains at this point? We’re only a year into their careers here, so it would be quite unusual if they were both captains already. Admittedly I didn’t check back through the episode to see if either of them have the C on their jersey!

The actor who plays Ilya (Conner Storrie) found out he got the job 8 days before filming and started work with a dialect coach right away. He learned Russian so fast! So many native speakers have praised his Russian and accent

I'm so happy, this was so much fun! I can't wait until the next one! Also the one thing I don't think they struggle with is shit talking each other, to them, that's foreplay baby 😉. I loved your analysis and can't wait to see the rest. This show is the best I have seen in a while.

Just a quick note- whatever we see on screen are the only interactions the characters have. Every meet is exactly that- no other off screen moments or hookups happen. They only see each other on the times they are playing against one another and in the same town- or awards and such. It’s such an interesting concept- only seeing each other at this point like every few months. And up until the exchange of phone numbers, it is literally just face to face every 3-6 months. I think that’s a huge reason everyone is so drawn to this show- the chemistry even from the few times we see them onscreen. I’m so excited to go on this journey with you! You’re going to have a blast.

I already knew Harry was my favorite reactor, but this reaction really solidified it. You already have such a nuanced understanding and empathy for the characters, which really warms my heart.

Sooo glad you've started this! Rewatching this show is basically all I've done since it ended let's goooo.

Thank you for giving us this deep and empathetic reaction. I just knew it would be absolutely great. I am so looking forward to all the episodes, and hearing your thoughts. You are one of my two abolute favorite reactors, and you are proving it to be rightfully earend every single time.

So excited for you to watch this! The episodes just get better and better. Not super important, but for context, Shane got drafted to Montreal which is a very bilingual city in a province where French is the primary language. It makes sense that Shane can also speak French with the amount of media training it is implied he has received. It’s just amusing that it’s yet another thing that Ilya finds both annoying and endearing/sexy about him. I always appreciate the level of detail of your reactions/analysis. This show warrants it for sure. There’s heaps of subtext.

The timeline is not quite easy to understand at first. The two are still playing for their youth teams when they meet at the end of 2008 (at that point, they are still 17). Ilya is still living in Russia. They see each other again when they are drafted into the NHL in 2009 (scene in the gym) and then play another full year with their teams in Canada and Russia (they see each other at the World Junior Hockey Championships, but don't meet outside of the game). Ilya moves to Boston in summer 2010 at the age of 19, while Shane starts playing for Montreal. The photo shoot takes place in the summer before their first NHL season. From that moment on, they see each other a few times a year when they play against each other or attend events. That's why there are constant time jumps.
