S7E3 Question: A bit of backstory, and then a question! Tommy Kinard is a character we have seen before! He was in four episodes of season 2, always in a flashback. He was with the 118 when Chimney, Hen, and Bobby all started. He’s the one that Chimney saved from an explosion (which got Tommy to drop the toxic masculine exterior and actually be friendly with Chim), in Hen Begins he’s one of the guys that reported Captain Gerrard before Bobby became Captain, and in Bobby Begins Again he goes to a bar with Chimney, Hen, and Bobby (he’s the guy that lifted his shirt to show a shrapnel scar) and Hen smashed Tommy’s face into a cake when he left for the 217 (the station he is with now, also called Harbor). And Tommy was the person in Buck’s seat at the table before he came to the 118, so it seems from past episodes that Tommy leaving the 118 opened up the spot for Buck :) Tommy was also the pilot that Chimney called in another season 2 episode when they needed water dropped on a house fire (this was when Chimney was watching from the news and Eddie was saving a little boy). So that was an off-screen appearance, and means this is the second time Chimney has called on Tommy’s support to help his team. I like when shows tie in old characters to show how they’ve grown since we last saw them, even if it’s just for a one off episode. Do you think that having a character we’ve seen before, who has a past with Chimney, Hen and Bobby, be the one to fly them out to the cruise ship was the best way they could make sense to get the team there? I doubt anyone else would’ve bought Hen’s “approved” paperwork to get a helicopter out there.

S6E18 Fun fact (sorry this got so long): Don’t know how much you may have noticed, Season 6 had some…inconsistent story telling. In my opinion, the last 3-4 episodes deviate from the seasons proposed arc and tone. Some backstory: Initially, at the beginning of season 6, 9-1-1 was renegotiating its contract with Fox, which aired the show. Negotiating wasn’t going positively (Fox saying it cost too much to produce the show) and as a result, several storylines had to be dropped or quickly resolved within that same season in the case of cancellation. For instance, the sperm donor arc, Denny and his dad, Bobby’s sponsors’ death, and Hen’s medical school decision were affected. This season also featured more montages of moments to serve a bit as a farewell. As they were filming the last few episodes, they discovered Fox was cancelling the show and weren’t sure if ABC would. To create dramatic and satisfying endings, they rushed the endings, including giving Eddie and Buck significant others. Interestingly, these significant others were people they met on calls and continued the pattern of getting involved in relationships with people met on calls as well as entering dating at around the same time.

S7E1 Couple fun facts: 1) first season to air in ABC after acquisition. 2) Long gap (about 1 year- fast and loose rule here on whether it matters in canon) between filming 6x18 and 7x1 due to the writer strikes negotiations. 3) shorter season 7 because of it, with 10 episodes.

S7E1 Question 1: So 9-1-1 in the past have touched on the fact that Athena and Bobby are not always on the same page. At the end of season 4, they fought over Athena not communicating with Bobby about her choices, and to me, it didn’t really feel like we fully resolved that particular issue. Athena has always been fiercely independent. Now that they are about to be in a cruise together, and we see Athena’s reservations, what are your overall feelings on the matter and what do you hope to see from their time on board? Question 2: through all the ups and downs over the seasons, we can always count on Buck and Eddie to be present figures in each other’s lives. Thoughts on how Eddie has come to rely on Buck as a co-parent with Christopher and trusting Buck to navigate even the more sensitive issues? As Eddie navigates a relationship with Marisol, how do you feel she’d fit into that dynamic?

Question that can be answered at any time: What are some uncommon duos you like seeing in scenes or work together? For example, I like when Eddie and Athena team up, Hen and Maddie. Also, any duos you’d love to share scenes that haven’t? My votes are for Maddie and Eddie and/or Buck and May.
