I agree with you Vicky was doomed not make it as a vampire, because of her personality, her issues, everybody, her brother included, was in danger. Being a vampire is like being and alcoholic working in a brewing factory, for them it takes a lot not to give in, and before or after they do give in. They can smell the blood pulsating in the vein, they can hear the heart beating, and they feel way more intensely, all senses are on overdrive. As you can see, it took all Damon control to stop when Elena was in the parking lot, bleeding, he told her to leave, even though she slapped him. Damon wasn’t say to Vicky to kill people, he was saying “I say snatch, eat, erase. You don't have to kill to feed. Find someone tasty... and then erase their memory”. That is their nature, they are a predatory species. Stefan is not normal, he is going around pretending to be human and he is not, he is a ticking bomb pretending to be a clock. There is a reason why Damon is in the state he is, a vampire related reason, he doesn’t care, but is getting out of it, little by little, he is changing and starting to care. He didn’t have to help to compel Jeremy, but he did, why? Because he is starting to care again. And yes at this point, the viewers still don’t know who Damon really is. Anyway vervain, fresh, dry, distilled, put into drinks, it works just fine, you just have to have it on you, somehow and you are protected from compulsion. Carol was open to Damon, because Damon was seen in day light, because he is from a founding family and because cleverly, he was in a seduction mode and was getting her drunk. The Jeremy Elena compulsion situation. It is true she had no right to erase his memory, but he is a kid still and people are dying, he would have start to ask question that are very dangerous to ask, he would be plunged in a scary risky world and Elena wanted to preserve his innocence, since his life having already experienced a lot is burden with enough pain, without adding danger to it. May I add I love your reactions, you are so caring. I can see you are going to love this show so much. This is not a show is an emotional rollercoaster that will stay with you for long time.

This episode is complex. We see the two faces of Damon, the face he shows the world that he doesn't care, but we start to notice that he does care. The parallel between Damon and Elena commences in this episode.

Stefan is a sneaky character that if we ignore, we can miss what he is doing. Notice that when Vicki disappears with Jeremy, Elena is worried sick looking for her brother everywhere in the hunted house while Stefan is standing by trying to locate Jeremy and Vicki with his vampire hearing. Guys, don't you think it is weird that Elena, who is human, arrived at the parking lot first, then Stefan, who appeared after Elena was in danger. Stefan could have broken Vicki’s neck and put her in the cellar as he did to Damon. Stefan did not kill Vicki to protect Elena. He killed Vicki because she was rattling his cage with his blood addiction problem which was something that Stefan never wanted Elena to find out.

This episode was the first time we hear the word rip from Stefan who was projecting his blood issues onto Vicki.

The school parking lot scene between Damon and Elena is a turning point for Damon regarding Elena. If Damon had any intentions to hurt Elena, it was over the moment Elena stood her ground and didn’t run away from him when he pretended he was going to attack her after she slapped him. Damon was testing Elena to prove how different she was from Katherine. If it were Katherine in this scene, she would have run away. Katherine would have never reprehended Damon’s bad behavior in such a genuine and courageous manner. When Elena didn’t run away, it was the moment Damon saw what Elena was made of, a brave 17 years old girl. This behavior from Elena made Damon respect her, which is why Damon later shows up at Elena’s house to help her compel Jeremy.

Harry, it is refreshing to see your sympathy for Vicki. Many fans don't express the same feelings for Vicki because they ignore how broken she was.
