This episode is probably the only episode I find very slow and more of a filler episode as I felt that not much was happening. But now looking it from pov, I realise that there were a few important seeds being planted for the plot to thicken. I agree with you about how the double date wasn't such a great idea because I just felt that Caroline was deciding to go on this double date because she thought it would help but then again it was too soon to think that things won't get awkward. Mostly because Matt had told her that he isn't completely over Elena and that is going to push Caroline into a space that isn't very secure as she already has these insecurities of feeling like the 2nd choice. Elena and Matt I do realise that they have a history and it isn't all about their romance but their childhood too so it is ridiculous to think that they can behave like strangers. However I do wish that they did start to pick up on the fact that there were two other people who were feeling a bit left out. But it all went well in the end so great. Anna, I really like them because Anna hasn't done anything bad honestly to Elena or Jeremy. She only did what she had to do to get her mother out of the tomb but afterwards she seems to have no ill intentions. Her mother Pearl is a woman one should be scared off because she doesn't fool around. The interaction between Pearl and Damon became really nasty at the end but it is always funny and interesting how Damon never goes down without a fight despite knowing the other person is stronger than you. Also, he did not seem to be interested in the revenge plan. Jeremy, poor guy. The first time I watched these episodes I was only thinking 'what an idiot he is'. But then I think about how he must be feeling really lost and lonely. After his parents death he was trying to find some kind of relief by using drugs and Vicky was someone he felt connected with. But then she also died and he didn't even get the chance to grief about it as his memories were altered. However, he does remember her acting all crazy which was during her transition. And he really has no friends to talk about things with and this new revelation about vampires is interesting him because he is probably thinking it is better than being a human. At the Salvatore Boarding House, until Zac was living there it was required that vampires were invited inside. But now that it is only vampires who are technically dead anyone can enter. Similarly with Logan, he did live alone but after he died he couldn't enter the property as he was dead although it was his property. It seems a bit confusing up until now but there would be more explanation in one or two episodes later. Matt and his mother is just sad. I feel really bad for Matt because he has so many things to be dealing with at home and that too alone that I cannot imagine how frustrated he would be with things and yet he manages to be a good person so I respect that about him. He doesn't take it out on others so far. His mother definitely needs to be taking on responsibility or better if she left since instead of helping she is only causing problems.

The rule with buildings will be explained fully soon, so far we know that as long a living person reside in a specific building or owns it, vampires need an invitation to get in. Logan was probably renting or wasn’t the only living owner of the property he was living in (like Vicky), and that is why when he died, he couldn’t get in. Elena and Matt were childhood friends, way before they started dating, Matt mom was best friend with Elena's mom long time ago, and so they have a long life history together. The problem is not with matt or Elena, but is in Caroline insecurities, she has to understand that there are no first or second places in friendship or love, everybody is value for what they are, based on the quality they have and everybody is different and have history. Caroline is adorable, but she still have to find her own voice and realise she already has her own place in the world. I feel sorry for Matt. While his friend have to deal with supernatural stuff, he has to deal with his family, his life that is pretty bad and lonely, nobody is really taking care of him, no wonder he still feels for Elena, she was and still is the only person that has deep affection for him. His mom is not exactly mother material. Elena is very smart; she has this ability to read people well, to see through them in a second and think fast on her feet. Jeremy is a kid and he is fascinated by the notion that vampire are actually real, he wanted a proof that is why he said to Anna to go ahead. Now he knows for sure. He has no idea of what being a vampire means, really. As Elena, she has no idea too, because Stefan around her is pretending to be normal and human and he is not. Fun fact, Candice King (Caroline) and Zack Roerig (Matt) were dating at the time in real life before Nina (Elena) introduced her to her current husband and then she changed her name in Candice Accola that is her married name. This episode was the calm before the storm, from the next episode the show will start to run towards the end of the season. Great reaction as usual, your reactions are so on point.
